I Am Not Your Asian American Doll: a comic for AAPI Heritage Month 2023

I usually spend a lot of time editing and fine-tuning my comics so that they come across as polite and inoffensive. But honestly, I’m really tired of the way Asian cultures and countries are treated / talked about while Asian people themselves are excluded, and thought it was about time I really let my rage out lol.

I made an animated storyboard for my After Effects class final! I wanted to share it because I worked on this nonstop for a week and I am extremely proud of it, but before watching please read the:

The music included in this video was made using an AI website called Udio. Udio is a music composing AI that scrapes copyrighted music despite the developers' initial claims that they only trained it on "readily available music on the internet". I'm assuming they meant copyright free music, which I hopefully do not need to state is still very much made by real people. Udio later made a new statement when someone published their findings that the AI could be prompted to recreate lyrics and instrumentals from existing copyrighted songs.

They now claim to have purchased licenses that allow them to train the AI on copyrighted songs, but musicians are still very much against their music being used by AI because it lowers the value of the copyright which effects their pay. This is a bigger issue for Indie musicians who don't make as much as big label names.

Lack of consent from artists is the biggest issue with AI scrapping, and it needs to be constantly addressed in order to fight for restrictions on scrapping and protections for artists in the future.

My teacher had told us to use Udio to make background music for our finals, and I was not told until I was over halfway done (by a friend) that she was allowing people to opt out if they met with her one on one. I was behind on past projects, and was scared that causing a fuss over this when none of my classmates complained would hurt my grades. I've been in college for seven years and I want out of the fucking building. I'm letting you know this so that you can choose not to watch something that contains AI generated music. It seemed unfair to post it as-is and then have the credits inform you at the end. At the very least I wrote the lyrics for this song, so not every bit is stolen. Also, the song in the credits is NOT made by ai. It is a copyright free song called "Excusez Moi?" by Roo Walker.

So Missouri is introducing a bill that would make it so teachers would be charged as sex offenders and put on the registry for "contributing to social transition" of trans youth. 

This is so completely fucked up. A teacher can be charged with a class E felony for using they/them pronouns. 

They’re making aiding trans people punishable by law. They’re making it illegal to help trans people. They want to make it impossible to support us. They want to cut us off from all resources in society. They want to starve us out.
