i mean... yeah, but...

i don't know why they rendered it like this. ashley's thumb gets tucked under her palm instead of wrapping around leon's fingers. hands and feet aren't captured in mocap, so it's not like it was a weird thing that ended up happening with gen's performance. this was a deliberate choice by the animators.

this doesn't happen at any other point in the game. just in this one moment.

it looks better after ashley's on her feet, though.

So I do this thing sometimes when I'm messing around with the freecam where I position the camera inside of the character model's head and literally look out from their eyes -- just to see what they're seeing in this scene/moment.

And Ashley's POV during the pep talk scene sure is... something.

you have the opportunity to follow Leon and Ashley as they ride off on a jet ski towards the sunset, because I saw the video and there he turned his head towards her, it looked like they were talking.

i damn near called you a liar. this happens SO LATE in the scene and only very, very briefly. he turns his head when hunnigan starts talking and he's already turned back by the time she says "come in!" the first time. they're also so far out there that, when you bring the camera up to them, it breaks the fucking skybox LMAO

and judging from ashley's reaction, he probably said something cringe.

leon: you know, someone once asked me if i preferred sunrise or sunset leon: i said: 'they both have their ups and downs' ashley: ... ashley: (realizes she has to spend the next 12+ hours with him undistracted) ashley: (briefly contemplates letting go and falling into the sea)

Yep. This is why Ashley is a foil for Ada, and why it's so important thematically that Ada was not in Luis's lab with them helping put Leon in the chair.

In RE4make, Ada is representative of his trauma

Krauser and Luis are representative of his struggle to overcome that trauma

and Ashley is the vessel through which he heals that trauma.

RE4make is not just Leon's mission to save Ashley. It's his journey to save himself. And the ability to trust in his own judgement and create a connection with another human being again (Ashley) is his reward for doing it.

So... if Ashley was lucid during the time of her possession, what did she see? How did that play out, from her eyes?

Well, Leon starts off concerned.

And when she first stabs him, he isn't actually hurt.

But when she pulls the knife back? THEN it hurts.

Then, it hurts A LOT.

And at the end, he looks at her like he doesn't know her.

Even after she snaps out of it, he regards her almost like a wild animal, unsure of what she might do. Like she's a threat, and he doesn't want to make any wrong moves.

I'd probably freak out, too.
