He's just so...so precious

I love looking at the inspiration behind characters and the foundational concepts that formulate the entire game, so I am bringing to everyone's attention Naoki Katakai's comments on Ruben as a character and enemy as a visual designer of The Evil Within. Those are some screenshots from the behind-the-scenes interview with the devs.

I think people tend to forget The Evil Within was made by a Japanese game company and developers, and while there is an influence from Western culture in terms of horror, their creative perspectives are going to differ from others somewhat. I can't speak on that topic at all, I'm uneducated in Japanese culture and folklore, but I can say they did a superb job of taking something like that from their cultural perspectives/ideas and crafting it into something profoundly in the spirit of horror, while also delving into the realm of neuroscience and the neurological apparatus of STEM as an invention, and incorporating that into the horror experience of the game. They differentiate Ruben as an adversary from others perfectly by giving him an outlandish, spectral appearance and illusory presence, and since it's also explicitly a psychological game dealing with mental illness, more is being revealed about his mental state as well. I've analyzed the disheveled way he dresses in recent posts. The fact Ruben is deliberately designed to look and behave like a specter is part of its ingenuity. They truly want reality to seem ambiguous. There's more going on than what you're even aware of when you start playing, and I love how Mikami wanted players to think for themselves about everything they're experiencing. There's so many intriguing elements at play to consider.

Basically reader is pulled into STEM and she’s a little psychotic and actually enjoys all the horrors Ruvik throws at her (lowkey me) to the point of being aroused by it- and being in her head, Ruvik notices this, and has talked with her a bit as she goes through his mind and traps. So eventually he pulls her into his manor to have his own fun with her and decides to chase her himself, finding how much she excites him… and maybe she eventually trips and falls as he’s chasing her and he decides to take her as his own, her saying breathlessly “What are you doing?” And he replies with “Something that we are both craving.” Or something like that. >\\\\\\> a SMUT-
