🆘 BELLA UPDATE 🆘 The other day we had another dog requiring emergency vet care, she was bleeding profusely and needed emergency surgery. Seattle Dogs Homeless Program is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless animals both thru our rescue and our street outreach program. Every year hundreds of homeless animals who are living in homelessness with their owners in Seattle are helped with pet food, pet supplies, emergency vet care with a emphasis on spay and neutering thru our vets at Greenwood Animal Hospital in Seattle and boarding so that a owner may receive drug/alcohol treatment, go to work or receive medical care, by being feet on the ground our street outreach are able to meet the need right where it is and by getting the animals the food, supplies, they need we know that animal is going to be sleeping with full bellies and happier dreams. Seattle Dogs runs an estimated bill at our vets @ Greenwood Animal Hospital roughly $13,000 per month, our vets see a range of emergencies from pyometra to abscessed teeth, ruptured anal glands to broken legs, fractured pelvis to seizure disorders and when it is time to cross that rainbow bridge our vets are there to provide the comfort and peace to a animal in need and we always give the families the option of cremation and return their beloved pet to them. Seattle Dogs has a mandatory spay and neuter policy for all cats and dogs that receive vet care thru us, this policy is not wavered upon, we as rescuers believe that we must be apart of the solution to help control the pet population. In addition to our mandatory spay and neuter we have been blessed to have been able to offer spay and neuter thru out the entire pandemic to all people that live in homelessness that requested their animal be fixed, to be able to do this has been nothing short of a miracle and a true testament to the dedication of our vets. Without your support this would not be possible. Since the start of the pandemic almost 2 years ago Seattle Dogs has only been able to secure 1 grant aside of $1000 as you can imagine this has been overwhelming and difficult for us. We have been consistently passed over for larger organizations, ones we can't possibly get in front of. How do we turn away a dying pet? When night falls and the rain is hitting the pavement there is areas where the lights hit the drops just right that it sparkles beautiful colors as it dances on the ground but as we reach many of our destinations that is often forgotten as we slip in mud, get our feet wet, soaked in puddles full of rat poison, discarded items left behind in a heap, rats scavenging for the little food they can find, their large size often has us thinking we found a lost dog but our thoughts are quickly guided back into the reality that is seeping under our feet, the rats hiss, some have no fear, like a reshoot of Scarface these battling rodents are waging a gang war against us and the people and animals that must endure their nights and days surrounded by their nasty venom.

Homelessness isn't pretty, its rough, heartbreaking, full of despair, sorrow and violence, the madness haunts a lot of men and women and we ask ourselves and others when will this end? It must so that those living in or out of homelessness can breathe. In the battle of every day existence are these extremely dedicated, loving animals that want nothing more than to be with their people, to be fed, full bellies, dry, a roof that doesn't leak, to be treated with kindness and in return they will lay beside you to offer comfort without judgment, a paw to stop the tears and they'll jump in joyous jubilation for the new days beginning, it is here that Seattle Dogs walks thru the mud and the muck careful not to complain for although several of us have lived thru homelessness we are careful not to forget we have homes to go to now, so we gather up what supplies we have and we search for the next animal in need, there is always a animal in need, and a person who is grateful we showed up.

A owner that welcomes us is refreshing, immediate trust, respect, this is what Seattle Dogs brings along with everything the pet needs and a lot of things the owner never expected to receive. It is here in these few minutes that we learn of what the needs are and we find a owner not knowing how there need can possibly be met, their in lies Seattle Dogs.

Meet Angel, this beautiful girl is now on our map, she will continue to receive our help as long as she needs it but wait there is a need not yet met, you see Angel just finished her 1st heat, her dad did everything right in keeping all males from her, now he wants her spayed as soon as possible. With our vets we are looking at an appointment in 2-3 weeks, we are wondering would you? Could you? Help? She needs exam, spay, vaccines, microchip. With an emphasis on spay and neuter Seattle Dogs will fulfill our promise to do all of this for Angel, she deserves it and her dad deserves our helping hand in ensuring he never has to worry about another heat

We are grateful we had the opportunity to run into Angel and her dad, it is nights like this that make the mud, the muck, the rats worth the walk and it makes the drive home one of a full heart.

We will see Angel again in a few days to take another weeks worth of food, supplies and we hope to have secured some funds to get some much needed blankets and food for him too.

She couldn't wait any longer, she had been suffering since 9pm last night thru no fault of hers, theirs, ours!! 9pm ring ring ☎️ it was Lola's mom Megan, she was worried, upset, pissed, she had gotten Lola back home & immediately called us from their nightly walk, some asshat broke glass on the streets, like some toddler throwing a fit they smashed glass hoping to make themselves feel better or to intentionally cause pain to defenseless animals, the damage was done, on those dark wet streets neither Lola or Megan saw the glass until it was to late OUCH!! 😭 The glass is so embedded in Lola's foot pad mom couldn't even grasp it enough to attempt to pull it out but if she could have she feared it could cause more damage. This had happened to our own dog Charlie, so I knew what Lola needed done, I called our overnight ER vet {it was a 4-6 hr wait}!! Megan & I talked more & decided to wait for our Greenwood to open, Lola is there now so I'm here asking for your help, please, can you? Will you? Please help us by helping Lola. When Quita was asked what she thinks about the change in weather and all the rain this was her response 🤣 While I'm being funny the reality of it is the weather has changed and it's all ready cold outside, the rain just adds to the miserableness of it all, Lola & Quita live in a small travel trailer, many others are living in the same or RVs, cars, tents, doorways, majority of the trailers & RVs do not have adequate safe heating, for a huge majority there is no carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers or an emergency way out. Many animals and their humans go to bed wet or cold & wake up the same way so we will be pushing for blankets, animal sweaters, coats, towels and carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers. Loebo and his mom Kim stopped by to see us at NW Harvest SODO Community Food Bank and picked up a bag full of food and goodies, being able to include Earth Animal no hide bones in our bags has been such a blessing not just to us but to the dogs we help. This boy, this dog, this beautiful gift to mankind is Dopey, he has a huge place in my heart. We care very much for the animals before us, we are lucky to see many of them every week, this means allot, not only are we able to ensure they are getting enough good food but it allows us to be in front of any thing that might be needed, or may be a issue that needs addressed. We are lucky to have made friendships with some, with others a connection, with several a level of trust & with all mutual respect. For Dopey & his dad we've seen the ups & downs, we do the very best we can for all involved & we are thankful that they allow us to be a small part of their lives in order to make life a little easier.
