Being knocked out for more than 5 minutes means very serious brain damage but humans not having a turn-off button would do immense damage to our collective storytelling. So many films and books and videogames just wouldn't happen if writers stopped bonking their characters on the head. Insane.
#this is why I roll my eyes at posts that criticize popular tropes#bc they are 'unrealistic' or 'we need to examine this bc it's harmful'#no you just bought into the purity culture bs#brainwashing doesn't work like that#most injuries in tv shows are dealt with highly unrealistically#stockholm syndrome isn't a real thing#torture for information doesn't work#and it's FINE#bc it's fiction#these things are staples of many genres bc they help make the plot go#I'm not going to demand the author disclaimer themselves#before they're allowed to write these topics either
