Spesso, quando mi ritrovo a spiegare in classe il senso del 25 aprile, e le ragioni dell'antifascismo oggi, finisco per chiedere ai miei studenti se hanno presente che cos'è l'olio di ricino.

Qualcuno risponde quello che si mette sulle ciglia o sui capelli come rinforzante. Nessuno ormai a 16, 18 anni associa l'olio di ricino al fascismo.

La questione della pedagogia dell'antifascismo ha in questo genere di nodi la sua sfida più complessa. Oggi il fascismo non è associato alla sua caratteristica fondante: la violenza disumanizzante, umiliante, sistemica.

L'olio di ricino è la sostanza del fascismo, l'idea di costringere qualcuno a bere un purgante da bestia e ritrovarsi nella propria merda, e a subire a quel punto altra violenza.

Tra il 1921 e il 1922 Giacomo Matteotti documentò migliaia di atti di violenze fasciste in tutta Italia, città e paesi minuscoli, e poi le raccolse nel libro "Un anno di dominazione fascista".

Oggi si può trovare in una recente edizione di Rizzoli, ma si può anche scaricare gratuitamente l'edizione originale sul sito della casa museo Matteotti:

In moltissimi casi veniva usato anche l'olio di ricino.

Btw Israel let Palestinians celebrate not one (1) holiday in peace. They didn’t grant Christian Palestinians access to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, they actively attacked families who were already starving at Iftar during Ramadan, and now there are several reports of families being killed on Eid al-Fitr—a sacred multi-day holiday practiced by lots of Arabs. It breaks my heart imagining the Palestinian families in Gaza right now, most of whom are spending Eid mourning loved ones who were taken by Israeli strikes. Most of us will never understand the sheer magnitude of that pain.

we still get immediately shoved out of our immersion in tv shows or films when The Girl find a dead body and immediately shrieks - we just don't find it realistic because we're pretty confident most people would gasp rather than shriek (i.e. sharp inhale rather than sharp exhale) and it also feels unnecessarily (and predictably) misogynistic too, as men encountering corpses almost never do the same on screen

also of course please do tell us if you've actually encountered a corpse unexpectedly, because tumblr is absolutely a place where some people have done this thing and we love a good anecdote

If you are watching a TV show, it can be live action or animated.

But not when you’re reading a book. Much to think about.
