âOver time, I began to notice that the moments of insight, stretches of sustained thought, and feelings of freedom on plane journeys often seemed deeper and richer than those occurring on land. There was a stillness and peace above the clouds that enabled me to connect more fully with my inner self, encouraged by the endless horizon just outside and the limitless potential it suggested.âÂ
'Peaceful Pacific, Final Approach, Limaâ
âThe gentle, rolling waves of the open Pacific Ocean off Peru lead into a peaceful emptiness highlighted by the transition from the darker waters in the foreground to the lighter colours towards the top, reflecting the sun. In this image, moments from landing at Lima airport, one can lose oneself in the silver rhythm of these uninterrupted shapes.â
âCloudscape Over Massachusettsâ
âThis cloudscape leads the eye through its expanse, starting at the bottom of the image, where the clouds seem soft and almost within reach, to the few distant mountains jutting through the clouds in the distance. I waited for the interplay of light, cloud and horizon to come together, to define the edges and troughs of the clouds, which it eventually did.â

It was great to speak with Olenka Hamilton at Spearâs Magazine to discuss my recent âAbove the Cloudsâ exhibition at Hamiltons Gallery and philanthropic philosophy.
"Philanthropy is not just handing over the funds from the sale. Every time there is a sale, it connects new people to the hospital, and philanthropy is just as much about action and personal engagement. Â We hosted a creative workshop at the gallery for the patients, giving them frames cut out of cardboard and proof prints from the exhibition so they could create their own set of works."

Scott Mead Photography
Scott Mead was born in Washington, DC, but has lived in London for more than 20 years. Following a successful career in investment banking in New York and London, Mead returned to fine art photography, a subject he had previously studied in college.Â
Numerous exhibitions and group shows have since followed, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and two solo exhibitions at Hamiltons Gallery. His photographers are in many institutional and private collections around the world.Â
Mead serves on many non-for-profit boards in the US and UK, and activity supports emerging artists, education and medical research.Â
