On September 24th of 2019 my daughter Alex was born. Two years later, on her second birthday, I’m proud to release my ninth album “Nothing More.” Featuring an array of Gay and Trans Dads from around the world, this collection of songs tells the story of my experience as a father and the undeniable love that a parent has for their child. This album couldn’t have been possible without the incomparable Ben Cohn. Ben’s gifts are the elite. I’m an avid reader. I read about four books a month. This will be my fourth book this month and I’m really looking forward to it. Having a (almost) two year can be tiring and I often need something to clear my mind at the end of a long day. Something to detox my brain and relax myself into a form or tranquility. “Alex’s Lullaby” is the fifth track on “Nothing More” and was the very first song that I ever wrote for Alex and the sole lullaby on the album. I’m so lucky to have gotten the chance to have @ianhwatkins (dad to twin boys Macsen & Cybi) record the song for the album. “Best For You, Kid” is the fourth track on “Nothing More.” The song was written from the perspective of myself and Alex’s birth mother and is one of those songs that I feel honored to have of written (and my husband @urban.dweller favorite song on the album). I’m beyond thrilled to have had @brodyraymusic (dad to Addison, Brhyley and Ellyette) and special featured guest @marylambertsing (Macklemore’s “Same Love”) join me for this song. “Baby you are so damn lucky. “Alex Vivian” is the third track on “Nothing More.” This song tells the story of the moment @urban.dweller & I met our daughter, stay with her night and day in the NICU, and wait for her body to get strong enough to come home with us. I was so lucky to have @raymondjlee (dad to Ella) & @claybourneelder (Dad to Bo) join me in telling this very important story in our lives. “We’re Gonna Be Dads” is the second track on “Nothing More” and the first song I ever wrote for this album. My husband had just left for Orlando. I was in Fort Lauderdale. Our lawyer called and said “get to Phoenix, the baby will be here in an hour.” There we’re not flights as it was 8pm so I booked us both on separate flights the next morning. As I stayed up all night sorting the dogs and the house, I sat down at the piano and wrote this song for my husband. I’m thrilled to have husbands and soon to be dads @taylorfrey & @kyledeanmassey singing this song on the album. “Lullaby, and when we rise, we’re gonna be dads.
