this time… this time briar was going to actually try to stay sober. the last couple times, he’d been out of rehab less than two hours before he was popping pills again. now? he wanted to get rid of those pills altogether. the first night he was home, he dumped his entire stash. 

of course, though, he wasn’t going to cut cold turkey. he still had his juul, and he would limit himself to two bottles of wine a day, no hard liquor, period. but… but when saint was around… well, he just hoped saint would be supportive. so, he greeted saint at his front door with a bottle of champagne (which counted as half a bottle because they were going to split it, obviously), trying to seem as chipper as possible. not hard when seeing saint for the first time in a month already made him happy. “guess who’s crawled out of rehab like a fucking cockroach?” he asks, grinning. “how’re you doing, saint?”

            this  was  any  regular  ,  old  day  for  saint  .  he  was  ...  bored  to  say  the  least  ,  but  he  usually  found  some  way  to  bide  his  time  .  whether  he  watched  the  housekeeper  clean  his  bedroom  ,  or  watch  the  chef  make  his  lunch   (  a  classic  roast  beef  sandwich  with  classic  lays  layered  perfectly  between  the  roast  beef  and  lettuce  )  ,  he  knew  how  to  keep  himself  entertained  .  he’s  in  the  middle  of  setting  up  a  new  game  on  his  playstation  when  the  housekeeper  comes  to  let  him  know  that  someone  is  there  to  see  him  .

           he’s  surprised  ,  but  also  not  surprised  when  he  sees  briar  standing  on  his  front  porch  .  he  languidly  leans  a  shoulder  against  the  doorframe  ,  and  allows  his  eyes  to  rake  from  briar’s  feet  and  up  to  his  face  .  ‘  well  ,  look  what  the  cat  dragged  in  ,  ’  he  speaks  playfully  .  the  bottle  of  champagne  in  his  hands  makes  a  mischievous  glint  in  his  eyes  arise  ,  and  a  light  chuckle  spills  from  his  lips  .  ‘  did  you  bring  this  for  little  ol’  me  ?  i  think  you’re  flirting  with  me  ,  ’  he  chuckles  .  ‘  and  am  i  supposed  to  say  that  i  missed  you  ?  because  ...  i  might  have  .  ’
