Is there anybody else just randomly bursting into tears under the shower because Wang So got Hae Soo's letters too late and couldn't be with her in her last days and thought she didn't love him when actually she did all the time? No? Just me? Okay then...

Okay, so I’m sorry, but another one from episode 4. We’ll call this Ep 4- Pt 2 and it won’t be the last because I fucking looove this episode. Okay, and… I need a moment. Why? Because look. Look at how adorable these two are during this scene? I mean seriously, can I just gush for a second before I get into my writing about them? Because seriously. Being all nervous and flustered and annoyed with each other lmao. Episode 2 Here Episode 4- Pt 1 Here Okay, so… We got Soo who’s been forced into delivering the 4th Prince his lunch because nobody else wants to do it? Awww c'mon, ladies. He’s not all that scary. He’s actually quite soft under that cold exterior of his. So, here we see our prince all fresh and clean from the night before, and we have Soo bitching the entire time she’s climbing up some big-ass rock to get to where Prince So prefers to stay. We see our prince sitting in solitude looking out at the palace. I’m gathering that he’s probably feeling a bit ashamed after his big display of emotion the night before. Hard to say if anyone else asides from Soo heard him during his tangent.

Soo actually cracks me up during this scene. She bitches the entire way up to him, bitches and complains about him not eating in his room and that he’s making all kinds of trouble by having lunches delivered up here (lmao that’s probably another reason nobody else wanted to deliver the Prince’s food to him hahaha), bitches about how she doesn’t like him and how he’s really going out all now, and then complains she’s tired. That’s a big trek, Soo. I’d be tired too, but you do it so comically! Then, she sees him sitting there quietly, by himself, staring off and notices how innocent he actually really looks from the back, even though yesterday he made such a big commotion. Then notices that he actually looks really lonely, before letting out a snicker.

It’s obvious So has heard her as he turns around and sees her and his reaction is not what one would expect from the wolf-dog prince. No, it’s actually rather shy and nervous, his eyes flitting away from hers and clearing his throat he as turns his head back around to face forward again. Yep, I was right. I think he probably feels embarrassed after Soo witnessed him completely losing it and totally falling apart in front of her. Soo makes a face at him, seeming a bit annoyed, but nevertheless, hauls a big-ass basket of food to him and sits it down next to him. You can see that So is visibly uncomfortable with her there, as he probably never meant to totally break down in front of a girl he barely knows, so he’s probably not wanting to be around her or anyone else right now. I mean, he did tear down Queen Hwangbo’s prayer stone tower and possibly even Myung Hee’s.

Without looking at her, So tells her to leave it there, and Soo sarcastically remarks “You’d like to eat alone and in peace then? You do that.” Before walking away from him. She glances back at him, noticing how lonely he really does look, but also, she knows she’s gotta bring the bowls and basket back after he’s done, and who knows when that’ll be? So, she stamps her foot in frustration, turns back around to him and plops down on the ground next to him with her back to him. So still appears to be visibly uncomfortable with her there, before telling her not to say a word about yesterday, and to watch what she says. Can’t really blame him. He’s not one for losing his cold, fierce exterior like that and totally crumble, right? If anyone found out…

Soo is rather surprised at this, telling him that she wouldn’t talk about that even if she could. She can’t believe she saw it herself! Remember earlier back in episode 3 after all of So’s death threats and his rage over dead assassins? Her words while she was sobbing comically to Wook were “He must have no tears or blood at all.” Well, she learned last night that he’s definitely got plenty of both. He’s not scary, he’s not cruel, he’s not a wolf, he’s not a dog. He’s a human being and a man. Just like everyone else. I gotta really admire Soo here. She tells him that she has her own problems and that she doesn’t have time to go around talking about other people. She could’ve run and told Wook or Chae Ryung about how the 4th Prince had a total breakdown at the prayer stones, but she didn’t. That was something very personal. I do love that she’s not a big gossip queen when it comes to him.

She mumbles how he always tells her to forget him, and So seems to let out a resigned sigh, realizing that Soo is not likely to so easily forget him. Soo glances out and wants to know if it’s better that he eats out here before noticing that there is a decent view of King’s palace, and questions if he’s looking at the palace, and why must he stare at it while eating because that’ll be his home someday. So tells her that if it’s home, he should have a family. Last night made him really realize just how much he lacked a family, but Soo didn’t understand the full reasoning as to why So was such a mess the night before. She’s surprised by his words saying she heard his mom, dad, and siblings all live there, but all So can do is lower his head. Though Soo is thinking now and mentions now that it’s come up, why did he do what he did yesterday?

Well if that didn’t throw the poor prince off lmao. He freaks out, his eyes widening and points at her and admonishes her, changing the subject, declaring to know how she managed to get into the palace bath the other day. Soo is basically like, oh shit are you serious??? So she tells him how Chae Ryung says the chicken is the best and starts opening bowls for him, while So looks at her panicked. The last thing he wants to talk about now is his family or why he did what he did last night. Thank goodness Soo dropped the subject. They are totally hilarious here. It actually cracked me up again how he went from calm and collected to “WE DON’T TALK ABOUT THAT.”

Okay, but the best part about this total So and Soo exchange is when they’re heading back, and poor Soo is exhausted from walking down that hill with the big-ass basket again. So stops to see if she’s still back there, and she’s trying to fix the clasp on the handle and fussing over her skirts while carrying the damn thing. He inclines his head forward, suggesting she can go ahead of him, but not before Soo tries to cover her legs with her skirts and So scoffs (I mean really, Soo? Why would he want to look at your legs now of all times? LMAO) He notices her struggling to carry the basket. He reaches out a hand in an attempt to grab it from her and help her carry it when Soo finally gets a good hold on it, so he chooses not to try and take it from her. (Awww, So, you could have, ya know! Just had to walk a lil faster and reach a bit further!) So places a hand against his mouth shyly, hoping nobody saw that small act of what would’ve been a kindness. He watches Soo climb up those rocks before stopping to bob her head and roll her eyes in an exhausted manner, and what does he do? He laughs! The prince actually laughs! And he himself can’t even believe he just laughed. This strange girl is certainly having one hell of an effect on him and he knows it, and that smile and laugh of his are so honest and real, and it’s because of her. A smile that actually reached his eyes. Last night he was sobbing his heart out, and tonight he’s smiling and laughing? What is she doing to him???

GAWD I LOVE THIS SCENE AND THIS EPISODE!!! Also, can I just say I LOVE how Prince So walks with his hands behind his back all regal, classy and dignified? It’s just something I always enjoyed watching with him. 

“How you’re feeling right now. It must be so miserable. I think I can relate.” 

The pain overwhelmed him, his legs trembled underneath him as the Prince leaned forward, placing his hand against the halfway demolished stone tower, trying to hold himself up, but all strength in his legs were gone. So collapsed to his knees, hung his head and sobbed so hard that not even a sound could be heard. He no longer cared if she was there or not. All of the grief that brimmed the surface of his soul found it’s way out, and So had crumbled beneath the weight of it all. All he could do now was just cry, hot tears burning his chilled face from the cold, night air. He cried for the love of a mother he’d never have, he cried for everything he’d become and done, he cried for all of the suffering he had endured for years with nobody there to show him concern or compassion, and he cried for the soft understanding and the empathy from this strange girl known as Hae Soo, because it was all he could do now. Someone understood him, someone could relate to his pain for the first time in his life. He’d never known what that felt like until now, and it was something he’d easily welcome again if he ever had another chance to have that. Maybe this was why he’d felt so oddly drawn to her. As he wept by the prayer stones, he thought of his own wish. A wish that this girl, so understanding, so kind, and who could actually see him for who he was and not a beast, animal or a monster, could maybe show him more someday. I’m so sorry for this you guys. I really am, but this is what happens when I rewatch this series, but particularly this episode, Ep 4. It’s one of my favorites, and I just had to get this out of my system. I’m soooo sorry! Forgive me! I hope you still enjoy it, despite the sadness. (I’m actually really pleased with how well this turned out.)

I want to talk about the fact that though Wang So is incredibly busy with current fragile and unsteady political in Goryeo, he finds time to visit Hae Soo himself, he doesn’t call her, he visits her. Like, he’s a king, he doesn’t have to run back and forth between Damiwon and the palace but he doesn’t care about etiquette and his status when it comes to Hae Soo. Because when he needs to talk to her, when he wants to figure everything out, he initiates their conversation and makes the first step, as always. Nothing changed.

Lets see, 4th Prince Wang So deserved better because: 

His mother completely destroyed his face and as a result he lived his life being treated like a monster. 

He was abused his whole life 

He was caged up and starved on a regular basis

He was left to die on a mountain full of wolves

He was isolated by his family no matter how much he tried to make amends

He was shunned by his brothers and treated like an outsider

As soon as he had a shot at happiness he was turned into the King’s dog 

He was forced to kill his own brother

He was forced to marry Yeon Hwa

His surrogate father, advisor, best friend and his lover all left him for things that were not his fault. 

He was seen as a villain for having traitors punished whilst the actual masterminds behind the treason were seen as heroes. 

He lost the love of his life without ever really getting a chance at being with her

He suffered over and over having to protect those who were on the throne - and almost lost his life on numerous ocassions. 

He didn’t get to meet his own daughter until a good couple of years into her life and then couldn’t be with her

Essentially, Wang So deserved better because at the of the day every single crime that was committed on the show was either thrown onto him or completely absolved with them having a tragic hero’s ending. 

Wang So deserved better because people like Wook were painted as fallen heroes who redeemed themselves without actually doing anything and their victims (Baek Ah and Hae Soo) thinking highly of them. Whereas he ended up being blamed for all their crimes.  

Wang So suffered time after time since episode 1 and yet till the very end, no one could fully recognise it and he was left alone. Whilst people like Wook died with people at their side.
