Desjardins' age is wrong. Here's my essay on why, which I wrote in History class because online school allows me to.
Also, this is entirely me being petty and picky and bored.
This is going to be quite long
Michel Desjardins is supposed be over 200 years old. I was trying to figure out his exact day of birth for a fanfic. So I googled Jean-François Champollion's wikipedia.
The fucker is born on the 12th of December 1790. The Red Pyramid was published in 2010, this would mean Michel's granduncle was born 220 years ago. For Michel himself to be over 200, he must be born no more than 20 years after his granduncle.
So I dug a bit deeper. And found a directory that allows you to track someone's family with generations. My ADHD ass didn't stop going back in time till the final pair of parents were unknown.
My research led me to four main families.
The first of them leads us to Louis Gereoud (4.2.1676 - 29.7.1734)
Louis marries Marianne Gereoud (16.8.1669-???), daughter of Jacques Rousset.
The second family in question are the Champollions.
Benoite and Claude Champollion have a son (named after Claude's father) Barthelemy Champollion.
Barthelemy (23.3.1694-30.5.1767) marries Gereoud's daughter, Marie Champollion (12.3.1709 - 4.1.1775). They have two sons - Louis and Jacques.
Jacques marries Jeanne-Françoise and they have two sons - Jacques-Joseph Champollion (5.10.1778 - 9.5.1867) and Jean-François Champollion.
We know Jean-François is Michel Desjardins's granduncle. There are two options for his grandparent, however.
Desjardins could be the child if a third, made-up kid of Marie and Barthelemy. Or he could be the grandson of Jacques-Joseph Champollion.
Let's take the second route for a moment. Jacques-Joseph has five known kids. Them, plus their cousin and possible made up other cousins, I shall refer to as the 'parent generation'.
The parent generation was born (roughly) between 1810 and 1830.
Only one of Jacques-Joseph and Zoe Agathe's sons has documented kids. (That I could find of)
This is Louis Aimé Champollion. He marries Claire Adele Champollion and they have a daughter - Louise Alice Champollion. She is born on the first of January 1847.
This means that it's safe to assume Desjardins was born somewhere from the 1840s onwards. This will make him AT MOST 170 in 2010.
This is almost 200, sure. But not over.
Which made me think. Is it possible Rick does less research than a bored 10th grader during History?
Yes. I am sure this is what happened irl. I don't blame him, actually. I did drew out this entity family tree, too. It took me a couple of pieces of paper. I kinda hyperfocused on it. Three hours later I am writing this instead of doing homework.
HOWEVER
Here is a better explanation:
200 is still a young age by House of Life standards. What if Michel Desjardins purposefully says he's older to intimidate new magicians. The older magicians know, but won't say anything, because it would feel like telling a kid that Santa doesn't exist.
