Neil and Jean both have extensive scarring. artists and writers I beg you not to forget that.
its an important part of their past. scars are not meant to be aesthetic. they tell a story of pain and suffering and anguish. they are proof that, despite all the odds, they survived everything life threw at them. they came out on the other side.
please don't downplay their suffering by turning their scars into thin and faded lines. they are a part of them. they don't need to have their scars removed to be beautiful.

Andrew healing
Andrew didn’t start gaining weight on purpose.
Before the court ordered meds he still had the metabolism of a high school boy, and once he was on the meds loss of appetite and weight loss were common side effects.
After he was finally able to get off the medication all the sweets he ate started to catch up with him.
And Andrew realized he didn’t mind.
It felt like a way of making his body his own again after thanksgiving. His body didn’t look the way it did on that day and it felt like power.
Every new stretch mark he gained was just one more thing no one but Neil would ever see.
He felt the same way when he started getting piercings and then tattoos.
There’s something about knowing your body would be completely unrecognizable to the people who hurt you.

CW talks of self harm and suicide related to Sunshine Court, spoilers of The Sunshine Court under the cut.
(Headcanon and my own interpretation/experience heavy, I’m not the word of god here)
My interpretation of Jean’s mindset in TSC in relation to his self injury and self harm behaviours is seeking a sense of control when his trauma is triggered. He seeks to hurt because at least that is something that he is doing to himself, the pain grounds and the pain makes the thoughts stop. If it’s him doing it then he knows it’s him, or in moments he’s in a solid trigger his body moves to make it stop but makes it worse. Suicidal ideation, thoughts, plans and attempts are a product of mental health issues + trauma and not something he consciously wants even when he believes he does. It’s easier to escape that way. With the deal made with Ichiro Jean has a strong reason to have to keep living, that works as a crutch to endure.
Specifically the hand around his throat and nails digging into his skin could be seen as a grounding technique for him for his Complex-PTSD. It’s the only tried and true method he knows he can use to cope, the nest wasn’t a space for him to develop regulation and grounding techniques because that was an actively harmful space he needed to survive instead of heal.
Jean does start to engage with better habits in TSC, going on a run with Jeremy. Running with him means 1) He’s with someone safe and 2) physical activity helps peak constant anxiety felt with trauma triggers.
Jean setting boundaries when things get too much so he doesn’t touch trauma boxes he’s not ready to is great too. Avoiding triggers isn’t helpful long term, but having a time and place to have the capacity to deal with them is important.
Anyway this is to say, grounding techniques like
exercise,
breathing (I know, but it works),
comfort activities,
having a safe space to return to,
distraction activities,
having someone co-regulate with him,
tight hugs or deep pressure
sour candy,
talking about it/writing it down
Could be safer alternatives for Jean to engage with. Note that I am approaching this from a trigger management perspective and less from a self harm perspective, can only speak from my own perspective and experience<3

hi its ly, the aftg zine guy. after the success of the mxtx gotcha for gaza projects and other fandoms running some, I'm looking for thoughts on running an aftg gotcha for gaza!
please spread the word if you can, I'll set up official things if there's enough interest from this tumblr poll. feel free to message if you'd like to help organize as well.
for those wondering what this entails: basically creators sign up to participate then people can submit prompts (this includes any ship, content, etc) by donating specific small amounts (ie $5) to specific palestine focused organizations, funds, etc! there would ideally be one week for creator sign ups, 1-2 weeks for donations, and then 2ish weeks afterwards for finishing creations. I participated in the TGCF one which sort of set this in motion and has good info about it and others actively happening!

To say that it has been a tremendous honor would be an understatement. I am immeasurably proud of what this account has become and it’s due to every single one of you. Your passion for this account was the driving force at the end and I can’t thank this fandom enough for being a rock in the storm of all of this.
I began this account as both a love letter to a story that has consumed me since I was first introduced to it, but it was also created to prove that I could sustain something for this long and this intensely immersive. During this past year alone I have been dealt hands that were not always the best, but this account kept me above water, even through the many sleepless nights. It energized and empowered me through all of your retweets/re-blogs, likes, and comments.
I also want to highlight and thank all 40 artists that gave me permission to share their incredible work. The scenes came alive due to their immense talent and exceptional hard work. Every artist was kind and considerate, incredibly understanding and just as invested in this project as I was. I truly can’t thank them enough for their trust and support.
Thanks also need to be delivered to my wife and best friend who, without their constant push and patience, none of this would have happened. They were my first followers, my biggest fans, and were Abandoned so many times during the course of this and yet encouraged me to keep going. Maybe now we’ll finally have time to play all those games we’ve downloaded over the last year :).
I also want to thank Nora for…. so many things. For the creation of this story, for the encouragement when this account became so big YOU even saw it, and for becoming a dear friend in the process. You’ve been an inspiration throughout this in more ways than I can say.
