The mayor gets ethos by showing how daring he is to step on a taxi for a speech. He uses pathos to say that the city has been through tough times but they pulled through, they survived a lot of things such as the undertaking, the seige, the outbreak and how they will survive this, anaphora is used when he says that surviving part. He uses diathesis to say that star city is their home and it is diathesis because he is adjusting to the audience’s nationality. He uses the united phrase and appeals to the audience’s emotions. He wants to build hope for the people and he wants them to believe in the city and that they will get through this.

This guy is giving the audience ethos by saying that we need to respect their wishes and he talks about the government and how the people need to create fear for them to listen to the people. This shows pathos and it tells the audience to keep doing that.

Ex-President Obama uses ethos to say “It doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or where you love. It doesn’t matter if you’re black or white or Hispanic or Asian or Native American or young or old or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight. You can make it here in America if you’re willing to try.” He says this to assure the audience that whoever they are, they can make it. That paragraph is a whole trope, Asyendeton is used in that paragraph. He uses politics against unity and that gives off a sense of pathos because everyone knows about politics but very less people look at that and try to unite. He uses ethos to say we are not the red states or the blue states, we are the United States of America.

In this speech, Aragorn uses his ethos and says that they are all brothers and he removes the barrier between nobility and the knights. He uses pathos to say “A day may come when the courage of men fails and we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day, an hour of wounds and shattered shields when the aids of men come crashing down, but it is not this day, this day we fight. By all that you hold dear on this good earth I bid you stand men of the west’’ He assures the knights there is nothing to be afraid of so that they can have more courage.

So firstly he says he is anxious and that gives him character. That is Ethos. He tries to convince this group of men to fight with him and uses logos to say that they are outnumbered and that England is under attack. He uses pathos to make the men know that everything will be fine if they work together.

President Trump is starting a revolution towards Mexico by saying “When do we beat Mexico?” He uses Pathos in that sentence because he wants the people to revolt. He uses ethos to say “When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best, they’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists” (what about you Donald trump are you the best in the world... no you are not so shut up) He uses all this to make the people think that he is the best for what he is doing.
He uses Pathos to say all the problems about the country and he tries to make the crowd feel bad for the economy that they built.
🤦‍♀️ to Donald Trump

We’re focusing on Hillary Clinton’s speech in this post. She uses Ethos to say that “My husband did a pretty good job in the 1990′s) this builds up character for whoever her husband is (I know who her husband is). She appeals to the “middle class” and uses diathesis to say “I think building the middle class, investing in the middle class, making college debt-free so more young people can get their education” She talks to them for their benefit in the economy and how America does not need more advantages for people at the very top (of the economy).

President Donald Trump uses a lot of Ethos towards Americans he calls them “us” and that is also diathesis as he's adjusting to the audience’s nationality. He uses Ethos towards Hillary Clinton and thanks her for her service to this country. This shows the audience that he is not being rude to any of his competitors.
He uses the phrase “our country” and that shows pathos because he shows how much there is room for everyone in this country. He says “Every single American will have the opportunity to realize his or her fullest potential” This makes the audience think he will do good things for him
(I know this is definitely not what he is doing but for my summative I'm just going to think that he is a good man)

In this video we see Elle Woods using a lot of logos in her argument “She uses the witness’s one mistake in covering the truth to her advantage and recalls a story from her experiences. “Isn’t it the first rule to perm maintenance that you’re forbidden to wash them in the first 24 hours?” Shows how she uses a rule/evidence to prove that Chutney Windem was guilty of her father’s murder.

If you loved someone and wanted to woo them.
In the book Five Feet Apart Will Newman meets Stella Grant and he falls in love with her and tries to woo her. Will saves her life by calling the ambulance when she fell into ice that was cracking and when she was drowning in ice-cold water he saved her. That shows pathos and ethos, pathos because it shows her how much he cares and ethos because he makes a character for himself. He then makes her look at lights that she wanted to see but couldn’t and that shows a sense of pathos because he is fulfilling her dreams I don't know if they ended up together because the book didn't really specify but at the end the two were in deep love and that's all that matters.. right

The male lawyer cross-examines the witness and gets the truth out of him by using diathesis to make the argument fit the audience by giving the witness many questions to answer in which he starts to use pathos to break down the witness, the witness falls for his rhetoric and gives in to him when he says “When you found out that she left you for him you were as jealous as a human being could be” He uses so much pathos that it makes the witness emotional and he blurts out the truth. Now isn’t that an amazing lawyer

This lawyer uses Ethos in the beginning by saying “I am young and I am inexperienced” It tells the audience about his character. He uses imagery when he says “This is a story about a little girl, walking home from the grocery store one sunny afternoon, picture this little girl, suddenly a truck races out. 2 Men jump out and grab her and drag her into a nearby field and they tie her up and they rip her clothes from her body, then they climb on, first one then the other, raping her. Fog, drunken break and sweat. When they’re done after they’ve killed her tiny womb, murdered any chance for her to bear children, have life, be on her own. They start throwing full beer cans at her, they throw them so hard, it tears the flesh onto her bones, then they urinate on her. They have a rope and they tie it her neck.” This paragraph has a heavy use of pathos, hhe makes tha\e audience feel for the girl and then tells them slowly what the rapists did to her little, untouched, innocent body.

In this speech we see that the person giving the speech uses Ethos to say “sons of Scotland” he is appealing to the nationality of the warriors then he goes on to say “you’ve come to fight as free men and free men you are” that tells us the character of the warriors in this case they are free countrymen. He asks a Rhetorical Question “What would you do without freedom?”

The St.Crispians day speech delivered by Henry V in act 4 of William Shakespeare’s the life of king henry the fifth. the king has led an invasion of France in 1415 to reclaim English territory and assume the crown of France. The speech takes place before the battle of Agincourt where the English pulled off a stunning victory over a much greater French force.
Ethos was used by saying “By Jove, I am not covetous for gold” This earns him respect by showing the army that he doesn’t desire gold or any prizes and he is only fighting for his Kingdom.
Pathos was used by stating “That he hath no stomach to this fight, let him depart his passport shall be made” It appeals to the ones who don’t want to fight can leave whenever they want. Also when he said “He that outlives this day, and comes safe home, will stand a tiptoe when the day is made and rouse him at the name of Crispian” So like who goes home alive will be shamed when St.Crispian comes around and the others are remembering the others who died for the country those who are alive will be sitting and reflecting on how they didn’t help the country.
Logos was used by saying “We few, we happy few, we bond of brothers.” This is logic because they are a small army but they are happy. “Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot but he’ll remember with advantages what feats he did that day, then shall our homes” He says this because all the people will remember the army for what they did for the country. This is also an example of an asyndeton.

In this video from Back to the future the bully (Red shirt guy) manipulates the victim (Grey suit guy) into doing his homework by tomorrow morning and he uses Ethos to use his character as this buff guy who is strong and uses that to intimidate the victim.

This is a clip from The Lorax. In this video the employees who have the idea for O’Hare Air are manipulating the owner to use this idea by using Paths and appealing to his emotions by making him watch a commercial which shows these 2 people having a party and having fun because of O’Hare Air and they make him think that he will be rich from this product
