After working on the Live Project with my fellow Portuguese classmate Filipa Amaral, we decided to join forces one more time to give it a real shot to our FMP. We decided on this as we were both Full-Time workers outside of university and we both needed help, as well as knowing each others strengths from the Live Project. We both went into this with a full head of steam as we had fallen a bit behind in the year as we were working.
Also created a real chance for both of us, to adapt in a difficult situation. We felt that we had a bit more pressure as we were behind and we were now two. We really wanted to make something special to show our skills as well as creating a team spirit in both of us as we are sure it's needed in this industry.
Now onto the project, we had two pitches, mine and Filipa's and we had to decide on which one to choose, although both had their strengths we had to think practically and adapt. Mine was a bit more gore and flashy, Filipa's was a nice piece of story about a different perspective on the word "Love". With that being said, we went with Filipa's story!
For me this experience really helped me, as I was for the first time working with a classmate that had "Producer" mindset. She knew what she wanted out of the storyboard and animatic so we both worked hard to bring her view to "life".
When I started to figure out what story I wanted to pitch I had a couple of different ideas, to like in the years before, maybe create a story around mental illness or something that has happened to me before, but as it is my lsat year I wanted to challenge myself and give myself a "white canvas" for a story and just create something out of nothing. So I created this story about a child orphan, to be honest, it was really my first time creating a story from zero and I found myself having fun as well as struggling and scratching my head for engaging ideas to write my story. So with inspiration from a great manga called "Vagabond" as an art style i wrapped myself in a story from the samurai age. As previously mentioned i stepped out of my comfort zone, in doing so I feel like i ended up creating more of comfortable situation after struggling to create it, so as an artist i found myself growing with the fresh perspective on writing this story.
