Please help me help my friend help their friend to help their family get out of Gaza by donating to Maram's gofundme. Since I posted about her last month she's managed to escape but is now separated from her loved ones.

a (very small) group of columbia students continued protest action by picketing in front of trustees' manhattan mansions this morning. at two locations, they were punched by zionists; at a third, a zionist tried to run them over—the kicker is that he is a close relative of the founder of the fascist kahanist movement, and that the injured student he ran over was arrested instead, handcuffed to a hospital bed. this follows days of violent zionist squadristi assaults on protesters in LA, chicago, and DC, among other locations, leaving many injured.
a few hours later, biden went on air and talked about how violent and antisemitic the protesters are.

The Israel Lobby has been loud about their plans to spend up to $100 million dollars to unseat pro-Palestine politicians this year. Thankfully, many of the members of congress who have been most consistently critical of Israel's assault on Gaza have been doing pretty well in fundraising to defend themselves. Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Summer Lee's numbers have been impressive.
Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman, on the other hand, need help. Both of them are among the 10 most progressive people in congress, and both are facing primaries where their strongly pro-Israel opponents have raised more money than them. Cori Bush literally wrote the ceasefire resolution in congress, and Bowman was one of the first to sign on. Losing their seats would be a tremendous blow to the pressure growing within congress to end the slaughter in Gaza, and a sign to the right wing of the Democratic Party that they should escalate their war on progressives.

I feel like people really underestimate the impact that your mode of transportation has on how you see and think about and interact with your city. Like, driving makes your city feel like a few islands, pockets of space where you regularly go and new ones you discover only when brought there for a purpose, but all amidst an ocean of just, filler. Taking public transit makes your city feel like a network of corridoors, a glowing grid along which you may discover new things, but whose alternate winding paths you only take when given to by circumstance. Cycling makes your city feel more human in its scale, and while you can only go so far, the spaces through which you travel are far more often built for people, not machines, and that difference is tangible, while your freedom of movement gives you more opportunities for exploration. Walking can only take you so far, but you see everything meant for you along those places, and every street feels like it carries potential, with no barriers to stopping and partaking of whatever piques your interest. I think, among these, driving is the one that by far most isolates you from the place you live, while the others are, in decreasing order, most utilitarian, and in increasing order, most personally connective to your shared space.
