you talk about every girl victimized by an older man. but I bet couldn't care less about underaged boys victimized by an older woman
As a mother to a little boy, I fucking care. Abuse of power/sexual assault happens to boys and men all the time too. The ramifications of that are horrendous. Ive worked with young boys who were assaulted, had friends who were assaulted. Society treats that like some sort of prize. A 15 year old boy with a 25 year old woman is assault, especially if she is his teacher, caregiver or some other form of authority. That boy deserves therapy and a safe place to heal not a clap on the back and a high five.
a lot of what Ive talked about has been link to the topic at hand. Young girl, caregiver. That doesnt mean the same cant happen in reverse. Ive also spoken to my own personal experience with assault and grooming
. And no im not really back because I grew tired of this discussion. This show is nasty and I will not every watch a single episode or give it my time or money and I cant convince people who refuse to see it for what it is. Though your comment is quite telling because you know its wrong. It doesnt matter the gender, sexual orientation; it doesnt matter how attractive someone is. A child shacking up with the adult who was responsible for their care (from 7-8 years old onward) is abuse. Its grooming.
sorry if this isnt the gotcha comment you thought it was.
Using male assault victims and their stories to shut down female ones is disgusting. There is space enough in my world to discuss both. Boys and men deserve a place to speak too.
probably not going to answer anything else like ever, but I spotted this, and felt it deserved a response. I care. It simply wasnt the topic at hand.

Loliconmaru was trending for a week but not really number 1. In addition, what made it trending was mostly jokes about it. They didn't speak about what was wrong with the series. I remember reading a post "Oh he is a pedomaru now huhuhuhu and crying emoji." I don't see "tame backlash" as backlash because it doesn't have any impact at all. That's why despite the "backlash" Sunrise is very confident to post a HUGE YH poster consist of AdultSess Child/TeenRin everywhere. But then again "lolicon" and "shotacon" are popular in Japan where you can find an entire section of it in manga bookstores.
The cultural differences between East and West make it a complex situation to analyse (and by "cultural differences" I do NOT mean the raisins' favourite refrain "All of Japan loves lolicon").
Sesshomaru and teen Rin were indeed plastered up on a subway wall in Japan, but as I've mentioned before, they're not really depicted as a couple (that's how Sunrise got away with it, imo). Any non-IY fan who saw them would assume they were father and daughter, not a pedophile and his victim. The same poster may not be up on a wall in Washington DC, but US streaming services felt just as confident as Sunrise posting/sharing that image 🤢
As for Japanese Antis...I don't know enough about Japanese Inutwt or Japanese culture to "judge" (nor is it my place to). I can understand feeling disappointed in a certain community's reaction - I'm disappointed I haven't heard a peep from the Italian Inuyasha community - but it's also important to keep in mind that we see the world through our cultural lens. What looks like a "tame" reaction to us might actually have been taken as direct criticism by other Japanese people.

The first episode of yashamine did well because it hit the fans with nostalgia. You got inukag, mirsan, and shippo. The episodes that were the most talked about were the ones with inukag. The audience wanted inukag kid not sesshomaru, which is why moroha is the fans favorite. I also know that even before episode 15 people started to lose interest in the show. When episode 15 hit people just stopped watching all together. Yashamine used to do alright in ranking yet after episode 15 they just fell. Even episodes with sesshomaru didn’t get any attention. I definitely think they didn’t make the money they expected to make during this sequel. I still remember someone making a comparison post about how bad the $200 dollar dvd set of yashamine did selling wise to other anime dvd sets.
There's also the fact the first episode was mostly based on a special bonus chapter by RT herself, I believe? So nostalgia + the characters not yet acting wildly OoC. But it only took Shitrise about 5 episodes to slowly start losing viewers. Episode 15 was undoubtedly the nail in the coffin.
ROTFL it still kills me to think that SOMEONE out there payed 250$ for the HNY DVD sets. I think they were supposed to get some kind of exclusive content with them and the chance to ask RT a question? So of course SessRinners jumped on the DVDs, and as I recall all they got was RT ignoring their SessRin questions, and a piece of official art proving Rin is a kid 😭😂

The problem is Fumination acknowledge Rin as the Mom and used her picture in the tree when the final eps ends. So they actually know how old she is. They didn't do anything
Yes, they probably know, as do Viz, Hulu and the rest. And they don't give a rat's arse - well, not enough of a rat's arse to remove Yashahime from their platforms (at least they don't promote it much).
All the more reason not to watch Yashahime legally! Not saying you should drop these streaming services entirely, but we have to let them know Yashahime is unwatchable garbage, and the only way to do that is to 1) not watch, 2) only mention HNY to drag it.

So i think i get why setsuna and towa look more like sesskagu kids than rin's. The characters were designed by rumiko herself, and since rumiko sees rin as sesshomaru's kid, ahe designed the twins, consciously or unconsciously, with kagura in mind. She she did gave hints that kagura could have been a canon romantic interest for sesshomaru had she not died (like when she compared their relationship to i think it was, miroku and sango's) .
It was Miroku and Sango she compared SessKagu to, yes ✨ She talked about how she didn't plan for MirSan to happen, it just did, then said it was the same for Sesshomaru and Kagura, they came together spontaneously ♥️
Imo you're absolutely right about there being no Rin in those kids because Takahashi never envisioned her as a romantic partner for Sesshomaru. Here's the funny thing, though - if I remember correctly, RT's original design for Towa and Setsuna had Towa with Sesshomaru's yellow eyes. Now, RT's never been particularly faithful to colour palettes, I think she's even admitted she sometimes forgets which colour she should be using and goes with whatever she feels like. It's possible she was expressly asked to make Towa red-eyed and simply forgot. But as far as we know, RT was simply asked to draw a black and a white Sesshomaru - in which case you'd think the colour schemes would be left to her to decide. If so, she gave Towa Sesshomaru's eyes...and Sunrise changed them to red.
So it seems to me Kagura was on a lot of people's minds 💀

I don't care anymore about Rumiko tbh.
I have lost about 50% of my respect toward her when Yashahime began because maybe Rin isn't the Mom and everything could change, that was the reason she didn't say anything.
Then she gained my respect again when she stated that SessRin's relationship was guardian/child. It means that she never ever wants to make this pedo pairing happens. And it opened a possibility that Sunrise wouldn't go beyond the creator's view/belief by making Rin the Mom in Final/Season2.
Then I have completely lost any respect of her when Sunrise confirmed 100% that Rin is the Mom (pregnant at 14) and will retcon the OG.
She could write 100000000 pages on how she will always see guardian/child in SessRin. She could announce it to the whole world that she was very very against SessRin relationship, but the fact that she HAS POWER to stop it (especially regarding the OG), but she DOESN'T do anything and just let everything happen just the end for me.
Nope, not gaining any respect back from me no matter what she does. It seems like money is everything for her now that she let Sunrise to do anything to her work.
It's a tricky matter. Fans have been wondering how much control Takahashi actually has over her story and characters. She didn't seem overly enthusiastic about a sequel being made, and apparently she was only informed after it was already in the production stage? It doesn't sound like Sunrise cares much about her opinion or blessing.
I'm not making excuses for her, mind you. I realise she's not a confrontational person and I'm told Japanese people in general tend to be a lot more polite than us rather blunt Westerners. But this is her most famous work Sunrise are wiping their lolicon butts with. Is saying she thought of Sesshomaru as Rin's hogosha and posting a pic of her Sesshomaru and Kagura figurines holding hands REALLY the best she can do???
Tbh, I don't think she gives a crap about her past works. It often sounds like she can barely be bothered to answer questions about her own fictional universes and characters! So yeah, I can't say I have much respect left for her either. She let these sickos trash her fans' childhood show. All of us are only here because we loved Inuyasha as kids. What did most of us get out of the Yashahime experience? Triggering content, pedo bs, an awful story, not to mention months of stalking, harassment and bodyshaming by a certain section of the fandom. Thanks a lot, RT.

It doesn't erase the fact that she was pregnant at 14 yes, but like you have replied. There is zero interaction of them when she looks like a child. Once she magically turned into "an adult" after getting out of the tree, that's where we finally see them interact like InuKag or MiroSang.
This is what will Sunrise do to justify everything they have done. The shippers will celebrate, sunrise and RT will get money. Win win for them.
After all, what's one more cheap, nonsensical asspull in a show that's the creative equivalent of a wet fart? 💀
Good luck to them with their cash-grab, but at this point I doubt anything can save their show. They've alienated way too many fans of the OG and failed to attract new viewers. SessRinners won't be enough to give them a return on their investment 😬

Shut the fuck up. Words have multiple meanings, usually depending on the context in which someone says it. Don't come on here trying to come at me for my reading comprehension baby, its something I take pride in. I've been analyzing and commenting on the media I consume since I was a child, it's literally all I do. I suggest that if you ship Sessrin you let the creators of the show know that their portrayal of the ship is wrong instead of jumping through hoops and arguing with people trying to justify what they're doing just because your ship has been made pseudo-canon. Some of you guys clearly have an issue with it simply because the points you are trying to make is that she is of age and that their relationship pre-Yashahime was platonic (but not familial???) even though the show runners are trying their hardest to portray the opposite. Ambiguous timeline, Rin drawn to look super young, and using their relationship in Inuyasha in a romantic context multiple times. I don't mean to be rude or disrespectful but don't come at me disrespectfully because we don't agree on something. I don't care if you ship them because I'm not even usually on the Inuyasha side of any social media site so I'm not going to see it. I'm commenting on it because it's not about shipping or if I like the ship specifically. It's about the portrayal.

If they are going to use the scenes in Inuyasha and TFA and with the fact that Sunrise staff are obviously sick people who need therapy, they might replace SessKagu moments with Rin just to have a rOmaNtiC mOment, like there's no other WOMAN Sesshomaru established a romantic moment with. Jesus tap dancing Christ.
On the one hand, ugh, gross. On the other hand, Kagura deserves to be far, far away from the steaming pile of shit that is Yashahime.
They are definitely going to ignore any SessKagu romantic moments though, because the canon kinda destroys their SessRin fanfic.

I got this from Sakuga Blog regarding the director (監督) of an anime: "The person in charge of the entire production, both as a creative decision-maker and final supervisor. They outrank the rest of the staff and ultimately have the last word." So Masashi and Yasunao's words are what counts. They are like the "Rumikos" of the anime version. Sumisawa did a lot of work too of course, but he didn't have the freedom to change Sesshomaru and Rin's relationship to whatever he wanted.
Tumblr media
I'm assuming these two are from the same anon, but if not, it's the same topic, so I'm grouping you together!
Okay, first of all, I'm not going to claim to be an expert on anime production! I never really looked into the behind-the-scenes aspect of it.
Anyway, you're right that the director outranks everyone. And more to the point, the show is a team effort. Unlike the manga, there's really no one person running and deciding everything. However, the series composition gig is pretty important, maybe just below the director in importance. They're the lead writer, they meet with the director and producers before the show is even begun for planning, and they have a lot of influence over the creative direction of the show.
I'm not trying to say SessRin was canon or even implied in the original series. I think I've been pretty clear that I think it categorically was not.
However, I am saying that Sumisawa has been the one pushing it, and, since he's been an important person behind the scenes ever since the original, don't be surprised if he tries to push his writing of SessRin scenes in the original as romantic now that's he's essentially in charge of Yashahime.

I always wonder whether HY actually made a good money. I have seen photos of a very small section of its merch. Like very small and still full. Then, the news about it was very limited in some anime sites, like no one actually make articles of it unless they have too (example of it's crowned as one of the most boring anime, articles about how it happened then how it ended, articles on sequels which turn off fans. There were some, but not hyped or many of them). Even Fumination and Viz mag only made an article of it after it ended where they confirmed Rin as Mom.
None of my fanatic anime fans actually aware of it. Once I saw them opened a streaming site with YH on the screen, they just thought it was another childish boring anime and just immediately skipped it. They didn't even have any clue it was an Inuyasha sequel.
The viewership ratings also never reached significant number. The highest is no 4 but it's because SNK wasn't aired. Usually on 9th but then fell off the top 10 since eps 15 to the last episode.
Did it make any profit at all? Even many shippers (at least who I know) didn't show off their SessRin merch/magz. Most of them just kept on harassing people and the most weirdest act was drawing SessRin and twins her bedroom wall. Only the translators actually bought magz and showed it off like a treasure. The rating on streaming sites are high but the total number of people who gave it reviews are very low compared to other animes. The only time it trended on social media in Japan was eps 15 and only for a small moment about them making a joke about PEDOMARU then it's gone. The final eps didn't make any wave at all. Like it just went and gone so quick.
Am I just imagining something or Sunrise didn't prepare for all its downfall? Did they really expect it to be as popular as Inuyasha? Is that why they keep releasing bullshits like guidebook about how parents met and fell in love despite we have hundreds of anime episode and manga chapters about them already? Not to mention movies?
What I am sure of is that Sunrise was overconfident and thought that Sesshomaru's popularity could rivaled Inuyasha. He's not. His character development is just too weak compared to Inuyasha. There is a reason why many popular main characters on anime have similar behaviour (Inuyasha, Ichigo, Naruto, Kagami, Luffy) they could carry a show with layers of personality. There is a reason why cold, ice block characters become just side character (Sesshomaru, Itachi, Byakuya, Sasuke).
This makes me wonder how well Season 2 will do with only SessRin shippers as the viewers. In addition of many more interesting animes come out too.
Gawd, I hope Season 2 flops like a dying fish (I'm sure I don't need to say this, but for the love of all things holy, folks, if you're going to watch the new episodes, do it in a way that won't give Shitrise views or cash 💀).
I think the studio started out fairly confidently - people were excited at the prospect of an Inuyasha sequel and the Yashahimes were marketed as the three MCs, attracting droves of InuKags. It still boggles my mind how Sunrise managed to squander all that enthusiasm and all those viewers. Yashahime is so bad they had to disable comments on their YouTube channel, because of the awful reception the trailer for Season 2 was getting. Comments were disabled on their Instagram too a couple of months ago (I haven't checked if they're back on or not). I'm sure Yashahime's not making them any money - in fact, it's probably losing them OG fans, some of whom are so sickened by HNY, they're stepping away from the original show as well.
It's not only Sesshomaru's popularity that can't rival Inuyasha's - putting the pedopairing aside for a moment, one of Yashahime's big issues is that Sesshomaru's daughters, like their dad, aren't cut out to be MCs. Setsuna is too reserved and quiet. Towa, that is, delinquent Towa from the first few eps, is too selfish and cold-hearted. She only cares about Setsuna and isn't above being manipulative, which is interesting in a side character, but doesn't make for an MC everyone can get behind. They tried to fix this in later episodes, but ended up making Towa a whiny Mary Sue with shit for brains and no personality at all. She's proof that, in most cases, pushing side characters into the limelight ruins them. To force them into the MC mold, you have to twist their personalities to make them as appealing as possible...and chances are it won't work rotfl

This guidebook baffles me because how stupid can sunrise actually be for using scenes of child rin and sesshomaru and try to make it romantic. Do they not realize how disgusting that looks. I always thought that sunrise was fully aware of controversy of the ship, which is why they hid rin as the mom in the early episodes of yashamine because they didn’t want to lose the viewership. It just seems like sunrise thinks they have nothing more to loose so they are just created this book to further prove that sesshomaru is a pedo. This is where I wish rumiko will just end her silence and just make a comment. I also feel bad for the shippers who do ship adult rin and sesshomaru. I know that some where very uncomfortable with episode 15 because of how young rin looks so they might be disgusted by sunrise using scenes from inuyasha to prove sesshomaru and rin were in “love.”
I have no clue, man. I thought the reason they made the mom a mystery and then never gave them any scenes together or any backstory was because they were trying to have their cake and eat it, too - fulfill Sumisawa or whoever's creepy SessRin fantasies, but avoid backlash from people who don't want to see that in a kid's show.
I guess the audience for this type of book leans more on the otaku side than on the kid side, so they figure they can get away with it?

It’s funny because when that interview or what ever it was of rumiko stating that the mother “was someone who changed sesshomaru” shippers were yelling and saying that it was rin. Only for rumiko in her April interview to say that sesshomaru and rins relationship was that of a parent/guardian. Each shipper I argued with about the term hogosha tried to tell me that rumiko didn’t mean it like that and that she approved of sessrin yet they couldn’t explain to me why she described sesshomaru and rins relationship as father/daughter when she could have just used the same sentence used in the first interview. The hogosha comment came a month after yashamine ended and two months after rin was revealed as the mom. She could have described their relationship anyway but she chose to say hogosha.
You make a good point. Not only does it not make sense for Takahashi to have described Rin as a "WOMAN who changed Sesshomaru", but also, after Season 1 ended and she was asked about SessRin, the logical thing would have been for her to state again that she thought SessRin was a good idea because Rin was the """woman""" who changed Sesshomaru. Instead, she said she personally views them as father and daughter.
It's almost as though she wasn't actually talking about Rin back when she first said Sesshomaru's wife was a woman who changed him 🥴

I bet when Rin is finally out of the tree, she will somehow magically become her "real age" which is around 27-28 like the wiki page. They'll ignore her child look entirely and give us craps like "She's maturing inside the tree. She knows everything around her. That's why she's crying when the twins fight and Setsuna dies."
This gives sunrise an excuse for the lolicon IF there'd a backlash (which none happening in Japan, even from RT herself) and please the shippers who finally can say "See, she's an adult."
TW: mentions of pedophilia and r*pe
It's a possibility! But besides being a gigantic asspull, it still wouldn't erase the fact Pedomaru r*ped and impregnated Rin when she was 14 🤢
I think if she was physically aging inside the tree, she'd already look much older than the young teenage girl we're being shown...but yeah, there's nothing to stop them from magically transforming her into an adult at the last minute, after making Inuyasha fans suffer through two seasons of visually sickening pedopushing.
Another possibility is that she'll come out of the tree with the mind of a grown woman and the body of a 15-year-old! A 30-year-old woman in a child's body is exactly the level of depravity I've come to expect of Sunrise and Hanyo no Yashahime 🤪
