I think this is part of the reason Wille fell for Simon. In the beginning you see Walter and Henry are afraid to have an opinion that differs from the prince. They’re «fake». Simon on the other hand is looking directly at Wilhelm while giving his opinion, and it’s not on a random topic, it’s directly linked to the monarchy. Saying it in class, but also to the prince. Simon is interesting to Wille cause he does not treat the prince different than anyone else, (but he’s aware of their differences, and points them out). Like Wille said: «all the people are fake», but Simon and his feelings for Simon is not.

He did once and in the beginning:
It's not in a way how others would sweet-talk but in Simon's method of expressing the harsh reality of their differences.
Although during lunch, Wille did complimented Simon and he smiled, it didn't feel like he fully believed in it (for me).
The moment where Simon seems to have actually put his guard down was when Wille started singing "It Takes A Fool To Remain Sane". It's like he appreciated how it was remembered when everyone else was teasing and laughing at him during that moment. More importantly, Wille's sincerity seems to have finally get through to Simon when he complimented his singing.
It was believable, knowing that Wille remembers the song he sang.
It's like it didn't matter who that person is or what kind of person they are, if someone could be so sincere to express how they felt from your performance towards your passion/something you love, they'd be unforgettable. Maybe Wille was like that to Simon during that time until it became more than that.
At the beginning too, Simon referred Wilhelm as Prince Wilhelm when he spoke with his friends..
..but on their first genuine interaction, for the first time Simon referred Wilhelm "Wille" (although it was just Simon parroting the people looking for him) as if it's an indication that Simon sees him more than his crown.

I want season 3 of Young Royals to include a scene where Wille is making a floral wreath/ flower crown and puts it on Simons head during midsommar :-) Almost like a coronation!! It would be so sweet.

As someone who does not pay attention to lyrics in songs, I am always afraid someone who does pay attention is going to come along and see my music and be like “why are you listening to songs about kicking orphans and diverting funds from public libraries?” Like, I dunno! That’s news to me! The beat was fresh and the vibes were funky! I lose all knowledge of human language when the drum goes bop bop. I am as surprised and alarmed as you are.
