My Cultural Divide Feature Documentary
Tumblr media
vimeo
https://ift.tt/2FdimJ4
Accompanied by his ailing mother, Lutchmedial takes us on a very personal journey to bridge the gap between his heritage in Bangladesh and his life in Canada. He connects his politics with his humanity, and weaves together a story that is both thought provoking and touching.
Starting from the opening scene My Cultural Divide questions the logic of the hardcore political activist, and wonders aloud whether ethical consuming actually does anything good for the workers behind the machines. Because of family connections director Faisal Lutchmedial makes his way into some of the worst factories in Bangladesh, and talks frankly with the workers inside about their job and living conditions.

I forgot… oh, yeah That’s an awfully hot coffee pot Should I drop it on Donald Trump? Probably not But that’s all I got ’til I come up with a solid plot Got a plan and now I gotta hatch it Like a damn Apache with a tomahawk Imma walk inside a mosque on Ramadan And say a prayer that every time Melania talks She gets a mou… Ahh, Imma stop But we better give Obama props ‘Cause what we got in office now’s a kamikaze That’ll probably cause a nuclear holocaust And while the drama pops And he waits for s**t to quiet down, he’ll just gas his plane up and fly around ’til the bombing stops Intensities heightened, tensions are risin’ Trump, when it comes to giving a s**t, you’re stingy as I am Except when it comes to having the b***s to go against me, you hide ’em ‘Cause you don’t got the f**king n**s like an empty asylum Racism’s the only thing he’s fantastic for ‘Cause that’s how he gets his f**king rocks off and he’s orange Yeah, sick tan That’s why he wants us to disband ‘Cause he cannot withstand The fact we’re not afraid of Trump F**k walkin’ on egg shells, I came to stomp That’s why he keeps screamin’ ‘Drain the swamp’ ‘Cause he’s in quicksand It’s like we take a step forwards, then backwards But this is his form of distraction Plus, he gets an enormous reaction When he attacks the NFL so we focus on that Instead of talking Puerto Rico or gun reform for Nevada All these horrible tragedies and he’s bored and would rather Cause a Twitter storm with the Packers Then says he wants to lower our taxes Then who’s gonna pay for his extravagant trips Back and forth with his fam to his golf resorts and his mansions? Same s**t that he tormented Hillary for and he slandered Then does it more From his endorsement of Bannon Support for the Klansmen Tiki torches in hand for the soldier that’s black And comes home from Iraq And is still told to go back to Africa Fork and a dagger in this racist 94-year-old grandpa Who keeps ignoring our past historical, deplorable factors Now if you’re a black athlete, you’re a spoiled little brat for Tryina use your platform or your stature To try to give those a voice who don’t have one He says, ‘You’re spittin’ in the face of vets who fought for us, you bastards!’ Unless you’re a POW who’s tortured and battered ‘Cause to him you’re zeros ‘Cause he don’t like his war heroes captured That’s not disrespecting the military F**k that! This is for Colin, ball up a fist! And keep that s**t balled like Donald the b**ch! ‘He’s gonna get rid of all immigrants!’ ‘He’s gonna build that thang up taller than this!’ Well, if he does build it, I hope it’s rock solid with bricks ‘Cause like him in politics, I’m using all of his tricks ‘Cause I’m throwin’ that piece of s**t against the wall ’til it sticks And any fan of mine who’s a supporter of his I’m drawing in the sand a line: you’re either for or against And if you can’t decide who you like more and you’re split On who you should stand beside, I’ll do it for you with this: F**k you! The rest of America stand up We love our military, and we love our country But we f**king hate Trump” Likes: 10 Viewed:

I am (not) a monster Trailer
Tumblr media
vimeo
https://ift.tt/37kn1F1
‘To act is to begin something new’ said Hannah Arendt, one of the greatest thinkers of all time who coined the concept of the ‘banality of evil’. ‘I am (not) a monster’ investigates the act of thinking in the twenty-first century as well as fears associated with it. An original and unapologetic performance on political theorist Hannah Arendt (1906-1975), whose book The Origins of Totalitarianism (1951) and essays such as Truth and Politics (1967) are introduced as ‘urgently’ relevant to our times – with a recent spike of interest in her work, now translated into dozens of languages. Interviewing Hannah Arendt’s former students and key philosophers and activists, ‘designer of experiences’ and alternative educator Nelly Ben Hayoun takes Hannah Arendt on a world tour in 16 cities; an impossible pursuit through four continents – looking for the origins, mechanics and power dynamics behind knowledge. Trained by Noh theatre and Kabuki experts in Japan, with puppets in hand, Ben Hayoun is questioning the ownership and plurality of our thoughts, and the means by which freedom of learning and innovative educative federations can exist in contemporary times. She is hoping to return from her travels in Japan, Ethiopia, California, Arizona, New York State, United Kingdom, Italy, France and Germany with the source of knowledge in her suitcase so that she can share it with her students, down below, in the university she founded, the University of the Underground.
According to director, Nelly Ben Hayoun: ‘The film introduces some of my core beliefs in thinking through experiences, experimental actions and independent education; namely for me: 1) education should be free and we should make our own economic systems to maintain it; 2) education should exist beyond nation states as a transnational entity – independent from governmental politics; 3) schools have to maintain plurality both in their approach but also in leadership.

Man is a Political Animal
Tumblr media

On the 18th of September 2014, Scotland held a referendum to vote whether or not the country would stay part of the United Kingdom or break away to become independent for the first time since 1707.
In a time of political unrest, smaller and more personal stories continued. A father and son with a difficult history return to the highlands to discuss, reunite and remember.

Lost In The Game: A Musical Story of Relationships, Sex and Gender Politics
Tumblr media
vimeo
Based on our set from the 2015 ICHSAs — a meditation on the unhealthy sexual relationships and gender stereotypes contained in the messages of popular music and culture — XIV Hours is proud to present a long-form music video in three acts, utilizing parts of 18 different songs to tell the story. This video was six months in the making, but its roots reach back much further to a campus-wide dialogue that began around issues of respect. In working on the set for our first ICHSA competition (https://ift.tt/1KadUYt), we realized that we wanted to deliver an important message and inspire conversation on a larger level about relationship expectations and the mixed messages teens navigate through the music they listen to every day.
Act One asks: what if people actually said in real life what “club anthems” discuss? The overtly sexual nature of some of those lyrics, when sung by teens, can be uncomfortable to hear or watch.
Act Two follows a couple whose relationship is intentionally vague, and is complicated by the fact that they are dealing with weighty decisions at a young age and may not be communicating with each other clearly.
Act Three begins cluttered and asymmetrical, showing the fallout from hookup culture: broken hearts and loneliness. In a breakthrough moment, our characters realize that open communication and holding each other up, rather than tearing each other down, is at least a start toward navigating relationships safely.
Songs (in order of appearance): – How To Be A Heartbreaker – Marina & The Diamonds – Tik Tok – Ke$ha – I’m A Slave 4 U – Britney Spears – Bang Bang – Jessie J, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj – Get Lucky – Daft Punk – Hot In Herre – Nelly – Blurred Lines – Robin Thicke – I Am Woman – Jordin Sparks – Stay – Rihanna feat. Mikky Ekko – Stay With Me – Sam Smith – Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow – Carole King – Bad Romance – Lady Gaga – Say Something – A Great Big World – Oops! … I Did It Again – Britney Spears – I Can’t Make You Love Me – Bonnie Raitt/Bon Iver – Don’t You (Forget About Me) – Simple Minds – Both Of Us – B.o.B. feat. Taylor Swift – Just Give Me A Reason – Pink

From ‘disorder’ to political action: De-individualising conversations about eating concerns by Kristina Lainson
Tumblr media
vimeo
Concerns about eating and its effects on bodies are often articulated in terms of individualised pathologies. This video describes an interweaving of narrative practices which has proved helpful for a number of women experiencing such concerns. By inviting collective considerations to their individual experiences, and by recognising and naming their existing commitments and agentive responses to societal expectations, it became more possible to move away from ideas of ‘stuckness’ towards a sense of being influential both in their own life, and possibly in the lives of others similarly concerned.
Kristina is a Narrative Therapist based in Aotearoa New Zealand. Most of her work to date has been in a small community based counselling service. She is currently working on a PhD in which she hopes to unsettle some of the less helpful discourses about people whose lives are impacted by ‘anorexia’.

The Challenges of Being a Female Hollywood Producer
Tumblr media
vimeo
Wendy Finerman is a movie producer with films like Forrest Gump and The Devil Wears Prada to her name. But pursuing her career has often meant being the only woman in a crew of men. In recent years, Finerman has prioritized movies that are directed by women and have prominent female characters. In this short film, she discusses the lessons she’s learned in Hollywood and how she balances the many aspects of her life. “Just at the moment where I’m coasting and I have to go on location or I have to go meet with an important person, that’s always the moment when your kid gets sent home sick,” she says. “I don’t think you can have it all.”
This is the third episode of The Atlantic’s video series “Women and Leadership,” which explores insights and advice from five women in politics, entertainment, and tech. It was directed by Kristina Sorge. Likes: 25 Viewed:

Challenging Power, Changing Politics September 7, 2012 Full Show
Tumblr media
vimeo
The conventions are over — Now it’s time for some thinking outside the box. This week on Moyers & Company, Bill talks with Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, who’s been an independent on Congress longer than anyone in American history; and Green Party candidates Jill Stein and Cherie Honkala about their role in — and what they’ve learned about — American politics.
In 2010, Sanders made national news when he delivered an eight-and-a-half-hour speech attacking the agreement President Obama and the Republicans had made to extend the Bush tax cuts for the rich. Stein graduated from Harvard Medical School to become an internist specializing in environmental health. Her running mate, Honkala, is a formerly homeless single mother who co-founded the Poor People’s Economic Human Rights Campaign. Likes: 23 Viewed:
