incorporating fisara's idea of umbreon!erida just being a bit smaller than most umbreons because it's pretty funny. like i was gonna go for something angsty and say that she just didnt eat a lot and lacked a whole lotta vitamins to actually grow a bit but i just went with the idea that she only got taller by a few centimeters when evolving. the literal middle between the height of an eevee and an umbreon. world's saddest looking thing ever with the capacity to screw you up

Dusknoir having separation anxiety related to h&p because he's terrified of losing them vs h&p not wanting to be anywhere near him because they don't want to risk going through that again.
#oh oblonger you're really out for me tonight huh.#dusknoir having separation anxiety due to the fear of not wanting to lose h&p again and them not even daring to go near him is just. ugh.#them just glaring at him from a distance when he tries to get near and make amends and reparations for past misdeeds and trauama#because they are quite frankly done with anything he has to say. he blew whatever chance he has when he showed them who he truly was; how he#showed any semblance of regret in the 'fear of loss of life' when he ordered their execution at the stockade. how he was practically plannin#on finishing off hero before the rainbow stoneship fight had it not for grovyle interrupting that attempt a second later. he truly does not#want to loose them yet he had made it pretty sure that he wanted that to happen by his own hands. and it hurts so so badly because he cares.#he really does. and they know that. but the idea that this is all just one big subterfuge; a pathetic attempt to hurt and break them harder#is plausible. its a possibility. not one that dusknoir that above; for how much they want to believe he is. but what can be done here?#they do not wish to see him. the light of the sun blinds. it burns you when you get close to it. but when the sun tries so desperately to#show you that its friendly; that it no longer bears any ill will towards you; that its.. sorry; will you open yourself to the option of#vulnerability? will you allow yourself that warm embrace that you so eagerly deny; yet you only want to believe in its legitimacy in the end#of it all.. will you do it?

umbreon!erida, anybody?
fisara actually made me plenty more interesting in the idea of the umbreon erida timeline, so here she is! more details below the cut:
just like her larger spectral counterpart, erida is more or less the same here; with main differences being that she didnt suffer from self-loathing from the time she spent with dusknoir and how things had eventually happened, and that she got scarred more early in her childhood as opposed to the two face scars she has as an adult 'noir.
as far as things go for her, she is still that same, small scared child that grows more out of her shell while having a few emotional problems, to an adult who (as far as she thinks, unfortunately) turned into a husk of her former self.
erida as an eevee evolved into umbreon on a fateful night after the events of pmd2 during her time with gaia; and while the evolution truly showed just how much she cared for her partner/wife. but with every upside comes a downside, because she was reminded of a very, very 'great' someone when she looked in the mirror and saw her rings glow.
while she doesnt have the same worrying habits and way of thinking that she has unlike her dusknoir counterpart, she didnt exactly have the best time growing up in the same manner the other did. you can take the sadness away from erida, but you can't take the sadness out of erida.
as far as her moveset goes, it goes like this:
- Moonlight
- Toxic
- Dig
- Dark Pulse
Moonlight and Toxic are both moves that erida uses in a similar manner to her other counterpart; she prefers stall tactics over direct action like how gaia and grovyle approach their situations. Moonlight is much more significant here because the happiest moment and the worst realization in her life was quite literally caused by the moon. it heals, and it hurt at the same time.
Dig is the most important one here because the move, to an extent, is one of the only things she has to remember of grovyle after he and the others disappeared. A memory she holds onto, and it's the one where they both ended up unintentionally hurting one another because they both did not know about the other yet.
Dark Pulse is the same case as dusknoir!erida, it's linked to her emotions and it's a lot more powerful due to her emotions being more intense and now that she has somewhat of a better connection to her emotions unlike the other. Doesn't make her situation better but hey, look at the half full glass or whatever.

i think what little trust gaia had in grovyle at that point would be shattered once he and dusknoir inform him of his, their, fate. he can't believe it, he doesn't want to believe it, yet some part of him knows he isn't bullshitting him. he tries to smother that part with as much malice and willful ignorance as he can, though.

thinking abt what grovyle said after the rainbow stoneship fight...
(pmd:eos spoilers below, proceed with caution!!)
i've said this before, but after being told that he's literally gonna DIE once sees his mission through to the end, gaia most definitely still held out hope that grovyle and dusknoir were just lying to him to deter him from saving the timeline or something. (he doesn't have an explanation for why grovyle would, but he just... he had to be. there was no proof of his claims outside of his painfully logical explanation, but explanations are nothing without execution, aren't they?)
it just feels so unfair to him. to have to carry out a suicide mission based on a promise he doesn't even remember MAKING? he understands that as a human, he had nothing to lose, and barely anything to even live for. though it's sad that if he stayed a human, he wouldn't have survived to see the fixed future, he gets why he'd give up his tragically nominal life for the sake of bettering it for everyone else.
but now that he's got so much to stay for? friends, a community, opportunities to help people, the allure of adventure? how can he be asked to give it all up now, when he finally has a life worth living?
whatever. it's not like he can go back. they've been through too much shit to turn tail when they're so close to finishing what he was brought here to do. if he's gonna die anyway, he may as well make the world a better place on his way out.
(that doesn't stop him from having more than a few passing thoughts about jumping off of the rainbow stoneship, or the bridge to temporal tower, or the damn tower itself- just so his life would be in his own hands, for once.)
#ah the cruel cruel realization that unfortunately destiny cannot be changed once its set in stone. the mere thought and hope that maybe#just *maybe*; grovyle was lying. but even for how it seem unreasonable for him to lie over something that just shatters gaia's whole being;#there is still a world to be saved. even if losing everything that he had for him; be it from the friends and community that matter so much#to him; giving up is no longer an option. it stopped being an option the moment the mission at hand started to become a matter that will#either guarantee a peaceful life for everyone in the future; or that by failing to do so; everyone will suffer. and to have it all wither#away from him due to his own origins being the ball and chain that hold him down from living the life he truly wants live for;#is just so depressing. its unfair. its downright *cruel*. but there is nothing to be done here. its do or die with none in between.#phenomenal post and artwork op!
