the compliment towards his group prompted a smile– no matter how much he denied it when the girls said it, he really kind of was a dad or an overbearing brother, and hearing them being praised struck a chord. “i’m glad you think so,” he replied, nodding. “they work hard. it’s good to know that their hard work isn’t going unnoticed.” because it could. so many well-prodouced hardworking groups got overlooked every day. he scratched his arm, thinking. “i….it’s a lot of work. lots of organization needed. but, it’s not like i’m running a daycare. most of them are in their twenties– they’re fairly self reliant and work well together. i think i’m lucky– there are some pretty young groups out there.” though, realistically, his had been pretty young come debut. songyi had been 14 and shea had been 15. they were still young, but the rest were good at helping him out.

“I caught their stage on the first day of the tour, that was the first time I had ever seen them perform before,” Hayi recalled, looking over at him as she spoke. “They were really good.” She paused, dropping her head ever-so-slightly as she laughed softly at herself. “I was a little surprised when I saw Songyi go from the Unpretty stage to their stage, I couldn’t believe someone so young would work that hard unquestioningly.” Sometimes it was as if Hayi forgot she had started working almost two decades ago. That was so normal for her that when she saw idols doing it now, she was still taken aback like she had never seen someone do it before. She looked back up at him, smiling now as she replied. “I can imagine,” Hayi nodded. “Being any kind of manager has always seemed difficult to me, I bet a whole group would have so many more difficulties.” Hayi couldn’t help but laugh again at his last comment, having just thought the same thing. “It definitely seems like rookies are getting younger and younger, and that’s coming from me.”

“You’re Toxxik’s manager, right?” Hayi asked the man, trying to not come off as awkward as she broke the silence that had fallen over the near-empty room. “They’re really talented girls.” She said honestly, offering him a soft smile. When she reluctantly agreed wit go with the rest of Spotlight’s actors on the tour, she hadn’t known exactly what that would mean she would be doing while everyone else was performing, but it didn’t take long for her to learn that apparently touring included a lot of time spent in random rooms backstage when you weren’t actually needed anywhere. After almost two decades in the entertainment industry, Hayi sometimes felt like she had already met everyone, but the tour was just serving as a reminder to her that wasn’t always the case. “i don’t think I could ever do a job like yours,” Hayi continued, not wanting to have her attempt at starting a conversation with him to seem forced, “it always seems like group managers have so much to keep track of.”

“yeah you’ve probably changed the most since your debut. what was it like growing up on camera?”

“Yeah, I would say I’m probably pretty different than I was when I started out,” she laughed. “It was, um, a little strange, to put it one way, but it was just always what I was used to.”

“it must get pretty lame just doing runways for the whole tour. was it even really worth coming along?” @rvhayi

“I think Spotlight just wants to use it as a free trip to get me to auditions overseas,” she sighed, “honestly, I wish I didn’t have to be in those. I’d rather have stayed home and kept actually working.”

“I kind of grew up in the spotlight, though,” Hayi laughed softly at the boy’s comment, “I don’t think you’d exactly want that, either.”

“I mean, I’m technically not an idol either,” she replied. “Unfortunately, a decent amount of people still try to touch me at airports.”

“part of me’s glad i’m not a full idol. a lot less people try to touch me at airports and i’m okay with that.”

“I mean, I guess you could say that Spotlight saved me from my old company too, but saying thirteen years later seems a little less impressive now,” she laughed. “At least they remember you more from being a soloist with Gaia than DS.”

“One of the few downsides I’ve encountered so far while being under Gaia is that everyone who didn’t know me before seemed surprised that I was Korean. I mean sure they’re known for saving foreign artists and groups but they can still save Koreans from their old companies.”

“That depends, are you trying to hide how often you’re pouting?” Hayi asked jokingly. 

“netizens keep saying i always look like i’m pouting…..am i really that bad?”

“They really should, suits honestly make everyone look good, even if they’re not just masculine guys.”

“i don’t understand why more companies don’t make tailored suits for feminine figures. there’s nothing hotter than a good suit.”

“Well, yes, but I think I might be an exception,” Hayi agreed, laughing softly as she replied to the boy. “I was five when I first started acting. But I still get what you mean, all my awkward phases got recorded on camera.”

“Do you ever just look back to when you first debuted and notice how much you’ve changed?” Ethan asked curiously, having just gone through some pictures online of his first fan signing event with Gemini and seeing how awkward he looked. “Thank god I’ve changed over the years otherwise Gemini would literally have someone who would never speak in front of fans in the group.”
