So Evilicus totally enjoys being alone rn
Twinges of sunlight escaped into the cave from the cracks in the entrance. Evilicus lay there, scattered across the stony surface, exhausted. They hadn't slept in..
..Long enough to lose count.
Groaning huskly, they didn't have the energy to even bother to turn away when the golden glimmers gradually stretched across their arm as the sun rose. A dreadful, eldritchean entity of the sky, feared by all who knew better.
Feared.. Like Evilicus used to be. Their claws tightened around their palm at the rising bubble of wrath the thought incited.
Something Evilicus hadn't stopped thinking about, was that regrettably, their opportunities to talk properly with Mewmew had been slim. And more regrettably, that was all on the dark lord's shoulders. Their initial apprehension to even be in the vicinity of that cat - Though understandable, had diminished their chances to get any sort of.. Closure. Evie sighed lightly.
You lost, you suck, everyone hates you and you'll perish alone and forgotten. What more closure do you need?
Evie's throat tightened, eyes starting to burn. Must be that wretched sunlight, causing such unpleasant symptoms. Unpleasant, and rather long term, it seems. Evilicus could feel their eyes water up every so often, mouth feeling tight with something, a lump forming in their chest. Even when the sun was hiding behind the horizon. They must've contracted some disease from that terrible bright monster. How did those day-dwellers live with that horrific flaming Orb in the sky constantly blazing on them? Unbelievable.
They dragged their body up, hazily churning over to turn their back to the light source.
They hadn't been this much of a wreck since the height of the conflict between the dark lord's empire, and the galactic alliance. They'd been in peak strength, dark magic flowing rich and powerful through Evilicus' veins, armor shining and impenetrable. Their army plentiful, despite the long stretched battles and wear on the demons causing more casualties than was desirable. All cursed weapons on hand - despite the Galactic alliance plucking them away at every chance. Ignoring the whole.. War, and suffering, all was well.
Yet, Evilicus spent their days pacing a circle, locked deep away in their personal chamber, blood running so hot that it could burn through their skin at any moment. Body full of restlessness, claws ready and willing to slash any living thing daring to come too close.
"My lord, I'm afraid I've come to tell you.. Unfortunate news.."
-"What Is it this time?"
"We've.. We've lost the Chalice of perishment.. To the galactic alliance.."
The dark lord had ended up.. Switching advisors fairly frequently..
Most of their underlings didn't dare close anymore.
If you want something done right, you must do it yourself - Evie had thought back then. However now, as much as they hated admitting it, any extended hand would've been acceptable.
A hand.. Or perhaps a paw?
No.
Anyone but Mew.
And yet.. Mewmew had been the only one to extend a hand. The only one to offer a leg up when Evilicus fell.
That self righteous son of a-
Evie curled into themself, pushing out a long, pained breath, that threatened to turn into a whimper as it tapered off to silence. Burning hot liquid pooled it's way out of the eyeholes of their helmet, coating their cheeks. Evie's breath stalled back and forth, choked back like a faulty engine. They dug their claws into the sides of their arms, holding themself pitifully. Still processing the fact that this is what they'd become now. A scraggly hermit living in a cave, unknown to the world.
Though, in that moment, Evilicus was relieved of the fact that them and their current state remained something the rest of the world had no clue about. Even worse than all this, would be the fact that everyone knew of it. They'd tear Evilicus to pieces, like void spiders encroaching on their cornered victim. And like the familiar void spiders of their homeland, the cruelly cackling public was something Evilicus had always tried to shield themself from. However unlike the void spiders, which could be warded off with plasma cannons and a good set of armor, the public was unforgiving, unblinking, and simply too vast to destroy. Evilicus curled into themself even more closely as the thought mocked them, throat tightening in anxiety.
Had Mewmew been afraid? M hadn't seemed so much as frustrated during their encounter, not until..
No, not even after that. M wasn't angry, but.. Disappointed. Disappointed, and sad.
Evilicus clutched their armored claw, the one they remember striking the hero with back then. It had felt good, for a moment..
- It used to feel great, back in the day. Getting a good hit against that cold robotic surface always felt like getting just a smidge closer to victory. Closer to greatness. One more little sign of Evilicus' power. Dueling with the kittybot used to be even fun at some point.
For some reason, the memory of it had started to make Evie uncomfortable as of late.
When had it changed..? For a long time after being defeated, Evilicus felt overwhelming, bitter bloodthirst towards the hero. Why had it changed?
Evilicus crawled closer to the wall, feeling the space between their neck and shoulder start aching. Such nonsense, a body filing complaints while it was kept still, in resting position..
Memories flashed between their eyes as they tried to reason with the strange knot in their stomach.
The smell of iron in the air. The taste of blood, trickling down from somewhere up left. Evilicus lifted their head only to face the open cannon of Agricola, the light of it's ignition burning on their recently shot out eyeball.
Evilicus had, for the first time in a long time, felt small, and defenseless. They denied it back then, but that was the moment Mewmew won.
Mew.. Won..
At that moment, Evilicus had readied for the end to come. Swiftly, most likely.
And yet
The whirr of mews cannon hushed down.
And yet
Yet...
What.. Was that look?
...
Unfair.
That's what all this was. Unfair.
Evilicus compared the two situations in which they'd both taken a turn being at each other's mercy. When given the chance to finish off Evie, Mewmew had offered kindness. When being physically threatened by Evilicus, mew had remained non-confrontational, while Evilicus had went for the strike. That.. Hm..
Wasn't it meant to be eye for an eye?
Evilicus traced the scars around their eye. Mewmew had matching ones on ms face.
No no, this.. Was unbalanced. Evilicus hadn't really earned that strike they gave Mewmew - at mews own house, no less. After being explicitly helped. That must be what felt so off about all this!
Evilicus scrambled to their feet, the suddenness of it sending a whirlpool of dizziness up their neck. They stumbled up despite it, now being certain what they had to do! Evilicus, the wicked genius, had figured out how to make the icky feeling go away!
Ignoring the nauseating sunlight, Evilicus started powering back to Mewmews house.
To be continued..
