the horrifying implications of Cinderpelt as a pawn of Starclan- trying everything she can to unsuccessfully stop her apprentice from leaving because she's terrified of the internalised idea of "failing" her clan and her job due to her impending death, while unaware that the entire Crowpool situation is intentional by Starclan for their own benefit to initiate the Power of Three prophecy and that her death in itself is to be Leafpool's motivation to stay- the idea that the stars, the ancestors and family and friends she devoted her life to always meant for her to die young and hopeless and were willing to manipulate her emotionally for the best outcome for them- is alone a piece of her character that's infinitely more heartwrenching and tragic and interesting than "she actually had a crush on Firestar and she's sad she can't date him :((" and I'm so mad that the latter is her primary legacy instead of any interpretations of her as a character that go beyond boring forbidden romance #17 that was barely even implied to begin with

for real whenever i see people in the wc fandom talking about how leafstar is soooooo much smarter than the lake leaders i just think of this

keep in mind that this is not only after a flood just happened but earlier on the manga series skyclan was attacked by foxes, one of which managed to actually get a hold of one of leafstar’s kits and very well could have killed it had lichenfur not intervened

there is a part of the book after her kits are abducted where leafstar admits that perhaps her kits would have been safer in a twoleg household……… but it’s immediately dropped and never brought up again and by the end of the book billystorm quits being a daylight warrior to be a 24/7 skyclanner because his clan “needs him now more than ever and skyclan is his REAL home” with no discussion of his previous stance or how none of this would have happened had leafstar taken his advice and raised their children in a safer environment. it just ends on the notion that leafstar is strong enough to protect her children herself now because united we stand divided we fall or something and also because she’ll never make the mistake of letting someone like sol who is apparently just cosmically destined to not be a warrior and innately unsuitable for the lifestyle because he used to be a kittypet into her clan ever again

you know what would have been interesting and made endlessly more sense than the “sparkpelt is a bad mother because she named her black kit flame and he can’t forgive her for not sneaking past enemy borders to look at him” bullshit is if harrybrook and leafstar’s relationship actually became strained by the time they have to leave the gorge because harrybrook can remember living with twolegs and he can remember how leafstar refused to let her mate take his children to a loving human home even after tragedy after tragedy struck skyclan camp because she was so hellbent on her children growing up in the wild to be “proper warriors” and now both of his siblings and his dad are dead and this is made even more unfortunate by the fact she named him after sol and now whenever he argues about these things with her she can’t look at him without thinking about sol and-
