Hi Anon! for this question I have two versions of explanations for you (I tend to ramble more than I need to so forgive me lol you can just read the short ver. and call it a day!)

Short version

Doesn't want to see his child form an intimate relationship with an Alter or the rising star of the empire differs from generally seeing them in a positive light, considering it is two different matters completely.

Both V and D work for/with Bastien in a way, and while giving them a nod of approval as someone he may allow to exist in MC's lonely childhood, for them to start a whole another form of bond with his kid is another topic in which he most likely doesn't want to even begin to imagine about.

Long version

We will need to take it in context here that Bastien tries to keep MC's existence, and anything related to them, behind closed doors as much as possible. If, let's say, MC somehow falls for D, who has to be in public spotlights all the time. You will start to understand his aversion towards them being in a relationship, right? And we don't need to mention about V bc we all well aware of how taboo/forbidden a romance between Alter and Stargazer is in society. So it's automatically a big no-no for him as well.

It's not like the idea of S being in a relationship with MC will soothe his arching headache more than the other two, but put Eutopia's standard into contexts; choosing S as a partner who has so many powerful strings to pull from for MC's protection is way worth than risking MC's secrets from spilling by entrusting them to a couple of kids (in his pov).

I tried to avoid asks about relationships (even they are the most asked topic currently in my dm) bcuz not only there are several contexts missing in the game as of right now, there are so many more of its nature hidden behind the future updates of each RO's storyline. It's not like I don't plan to answer (will def get back to it once the story progresses a bit more) It is just not something I can talk about lightly so I hope people understand when I somehow sidestep and outright ignore a certain question, however, if it's not too spoilery I will definitely answer. ((As much as I can anyway.))

Can you clarify how does 'picking the chosen one' work? and do we have to pick one at all?

Choosing to go down a certain path with specific character as a center of the story will dramatically change a lot of prospects of your storyline. It is good to note that this doesn't necessarily mean you need to be in a relationship with your Chosen one, but at least you will need to build a certain amount of trust, or simply say, relationship stats with them. To pass the stat-check and agree to affiliate with their side.

How does it work?

Once there begins a 'branching' chapter, there will be options for you to choose to side with certain characters (or none at all, if you wish to do so.) Major events will be occurred according to what will happen regardless of your pick, and there will be incidents that will/will not happen depending on your pick of Chosen one. Hence, the focus of the events or the core narrative of your storyline including minor details such as the actions of several characters weaving their fates around you will change due to your choices (whether or not you directly interact with them). And there will be some key factors that will be permanently affected lest you think your action will not have consequence, so choose wisely after being given the choices. (I will make it clear enough don't worry.)

It is what I will focus on and will try to see if things could work out the way I pictured it (mostly coding-wise). After I go past Chapter three, it will be my main priority to make sure branching paths are all functionable.

In short, Bastien will certainly not take it well. But compare to other possible choices (looking at certain somebodies with pale hair and dark hair respectively), he much more opens to this outcome than the other two (even it is not so willingly from his side.).

This is tough one to give a definitive answer ngl… but I guess I could say it still applies. I’ve drafted two different origins for players to see which one has more potential. And I personally preferred to pick the secret child to go forward with my current plan. However, V is still a character I pretty much adore and would like to explore with as a character players can play as. So I kept their version as well.

Not only V, but I envisioned all three Chosen Ones as playable characters. They all are protagonists of their story in their own way. Including the bystander (Current playable MC)

Side character povs might be featured in a form of snippets. I don’t think I would be able to do so many characterized origins😵‍💫

As for how would that work, you wouldn’t be spoiled because right now I don’t plan to release multiple origins at the same time. (This is just a side note; I have a reason why I feel like it’d be better for players to know V’s gonna betray them at one point, for better or worse.) Even I thought I was able to release V’s origin together with MC’s, I feel like the game is still in its (super) early state. I want it to develop until the crucial factors are permanently decided. Then, we can talk about options like different starter origins.

Words cannot describe how much I feel so included in this story as a player. But I will try.

Despite the concept of MC is to be just a 'bystander' I can feel the strong presence of this character throughout the demo (which surprised me the most, consider this is just the beginning.) I replayed with 3 different MC and I can see the blatant change of perspectives in how they view Alter and Gazer situations depending on my choice. Or even how they talk, their mannerism. And I like it. I like it so much.

MC's inner turmoil is real. so so real. As someone who went through a long process of therapy to get better on mental health. I was quite afraid to see the glorification of depression (since it seems to be a trend nowadays in the IF community) and I immediately taken aback of how MC get called out so fast in the beginning (I was WHEEZING so loud my partner walked over to check up on me lol)

I love the length of this update. It says 28k but it felt much longer than that when I played, and in a good way. You say you don't like the pace of the current story but I'd say it is fitting for a IF that leans more toward the book side than the game side. I like how different dialogues grant us different reactions from V. And I like how subtle the change of V's reaction can give away so much (I caught that dazed stare, young man!) I picked up several foreshadows on this chapter which honestly scared the shit out of me. And I like that despite the still linear storyline it doesn't feel so railroaded (which is what I'm fear from an if the most.)

The mystery of the prelude in contrast with the calm before the storm vibes I get in Chapter 1 is what I love most about the demo. And V is adorable. (In a red flag kind of way) I can't wait to see the next update from you. Great job!

Thanks for the long review! I appreciate it. About the pace I think the frustration was born from the fact that I expect everything to kick start from the very beginning. But it was also me who decided to add so many details in the intro, so it took way longer than I was expecting to the turning point.
