“Not all men-“
You’re right. King Robb Stark, Lord of Winterfell, eldest son of House Stark, declared King in the North, wouldn’t treat me like this.

nothing’s fair in love and war: prologue
Pairing: Aemond Targaryen x OFC | Rating: T (for now) | Word Count: ~600 | Tropes: enemies-to-lovers, slow burn
Summary: Lady Winona cares not for which Targaryen sits on the Iron Throne. However, she does care about her entire noble family that supports and battles for Rhaenyra Targaryen. It so happens that she lives in the very midst of the enemy and it so happens that Lady Winona is privy to enemy movements and it so happens that she discreetly sends word of them to her family. It also so happens that Prince Aemond catches her in the very act.
Winona wonders if she is cursed to live the same day for eternity. She finds that it is easier to blame the fates for her unfortunate fortune. She finds it easier to blame them for the alternative is to blame herself for her weakness, and Winona does not think she would bear to see herself in the vanity if she were to do so for she knows that almost everyone she loves would not be able to if they could see her now - if they knew that this is where she seeks and finds herself to be as the sun sets and the city slumbers.
She burrows herself deeper into Aemond’s arms as though they would hide her from the world forever because that is a shameful eternity she would not dread. She would be able to tear her eyes from the bedside cabinet if she knew that she would not need to worry about what Aemond’s hands were capable of outside these walls - if Winona knew that she would not have to worry about what they would do to her for her own sins towards him. She would be able to close her eyes in peace and rest if she knew that she would wake up without the disquiet in her mind and with the sensation of Aemond’s warm chest pressed to hers and his lips peppered to her bare shoulders.
Winona wonders if it is intentional that Aemond leaves his weapons upon the bedside cabinet that lies within an arm’s reach for her. She thinks that for him to leave his dagger as careless as that with intention would mean that he trusts her, however, she finds that notion humorous for Aemond does not even trust her with even the most useless morsels of information. He distrusts her quill as much as she distrusts his sword.
She thinks that it is more likely that Aemond leaves the weapon there as a taunt - a taunt at her weakness. She wonders if it is a dare - or a test - to see if she would overcome that weakness and turn the blade on to him as she knows she should. Winona believes that would be more in character for the Prince.
She lets her hand drift to his hand which is splayed over her stomach. She tries to discern from the proximity if he is awake - on guard - ready to see if she will take the bait and try to drive his own weapon in his heart. She lets her knuckles trace the indents between his as she slows her own breath to catch the smallest of indications, however, she turns to face him when she finds none. Winona was always a curious creature, and she needs to know if he is awakes with the notion formed in her head.
Aemond’s arms readjust loosely around her to accommodate her change in position. She eyes her hands as she presses them lightly to his chest - his chest that rises and falls slowly and regularly. She eyes her bare left hand and signs inaudibly when she remembers that she will need to retrieve her silver wedding band from near the fireplace where Aemond threw it to in a possessive rage earlier in the evening. She almost wishes he deposited it into the fire and let the flames lick it away.
She keeps her eyes on her hands on his chest. She can’t find it in herself to look up and see if her Prince is awake even though she wants to know. She doesn’t think she would be able to bear to see his eye on her. She doesn’t want to know that he doesn’t trust. Winona wants Aemond to trust her. She desperately wants him to - even though she desperately knows he shouldn’t.
A/N: Had an idea so I went for it. Note that Winona will be from a prominent, however, fictional house that is not included in canon. Let me know what you think of the story! It’ll get better as we go and I get used to writing again. Let me know if you want to be added to the tag list!
