Sacred Games Ch1: Policeman's Day
First time reading and it opened with a dog got hurt? well okay bro, that's unexpected I thought it would be like in a calm environment but no straight to the let's hurt anything that's alive in this earth. Oh there's domestic violence not graphic but still make me shocked? Since I never read books with Indian setting kinda hard to remember the character's name.
"There was a promise in the grim arches, in the thickness of the walls and the uncompromising weight of the façades, there was the reassurance of bulky power, and so law and order" (Page 7)
Okaaay as an architecture student? I could visualize this one and I love the quote.
So inspector Sartaj is the main character, he's having some crisis about his own future, on his word 'he is past forty, divorced and barely have achievement like the rest.
Anyway I love it when a writer describe foods the character eat, it will make it more memorable like tengkleng that Laut Biru always eat with his family from the book The Sea Speaks His Name. Now on this chapter Sartaj eat uttapam, I search the recipe looks delish buuuuut bruh I don't understand the ingredients and where to get it. Anywaaaaayyyy back to the topic.
Okayyyyy? I never really read something like this before but I like the writing style, as someone who have a hard time visualizing when I read fiction books this one? this one is kinda different since I can visualize it clearly on my head. Another scene is where a thirteen years old boy doesn't want to go to school, shout at his parents, the mother of this boy take him to the police, she's damn tired of him, now how the scene unfold is easy to understand, easy to visualize it, somehow I could create movies on my head when reading it, even though usually I couldn't imagine anything everytime I read fiction books.
Another interaction. is this will be another character that I like I wonder? a manager of restaurant and bar, Shambhu if I remember correctly he's 24 at the first glance, as if you could glance at a fictional written character, anywayyy the first impression of him is he probably the type of a character that too chill in every situation with his swaggery persona.
I love the humor in this book, match my own, I'm cackling here and there. Some found family trope, Sartaj interaction with Majid family aaaawwww. Then another case, happened someone died after drinking with their friends. I listen to playlist for traveling in empty places by nobody, the vibes match makes me feel somber while reading it.
Aaaan done, I'm done reading the first chapter. It's character driven, I guess? we can see much later is it plot driver on character one. The vibe is immaculate, I feel like watching movies without really doing it, imagination and scenario start to filled my heads up. I love the vibe, this is something that I enjoy reading.

Interesting thought
krauser calling leon a pretty boy, not bc he's homophobic. but bc, leon is a government agent ( a lot more cushy than a soldier the government threw away or the soldiers that died while the government prioritized leon's safety, especially from krauser's perspective ), to be insulting bc he's being antagonistic, and what i think plays a signficant role:
krauser has massive, deep scars across his face. he's no longer pretty himself. calling someone else "pretty boy" bc he's marred up and it's an easy way to shield against his own insecurity.

Studying architecture is hard and I'm giving up.
Like every teenagers out there I'm pretty much confused about anything. I've no idea what major that's actually fit for me and I just recently discover any techniques to know about so it is kinda too late for me. I thought architecture is bearable, I read through many blogs, hear any story about it, and I thought okay it's hard but I think I could do it. Turned out? I can't.
I can't do it, the most important course that I requiere to take is design studio, I can't do it. It's hard for me, I'm not creative enough, I'm not skillful enough, it literally drain me, literally makes me feel much worse about myself, I'm giving up.
After I graduated I planned to work in any setting beside doing literal architecture works, I mean I probably works as a drafter first yeah I know it's still kinda related but just literal drafting works and I don't wanna take any other jobs beside this job in architecture related works. I, myself wanna focus the first two years of my life after I graduated to learn programming because this one is something that makes me happy and eager to learn, nothing else.
It just my rambling, stupid rambling.

Finally someone say this, I'm always thinking of how much works he put just to be a major on his wiki it said that he's in the USSOCOM which is a special forces kind of thing, so make sense if he's too comfortable on military works and hard to adapt as a civilian, end up dying alone and well he lives in my head rent free for so many years since i've played the OG RE4
Important facts about Jack Krauser which the fandom ought to recognize, before we get too far down the poor discarded soldier woobie train:
He was a Major. A commissioned officer rank he would have needed a degree, specialized training, and at least 12 years of military service to become. O4 paygrade. In today's money, for an estimated length of service of 15 years, Jack would have been making something like $11,485 a month (factoring in allowances and hostile fire pay) plus bonuses during Operation Javier. As a Major he would theoretically have command of anywhere from 300 to more than 1000 troops. He would be an executive officer, and be in command of his entire special forces company. Even with his arm being messed up an honorable discharge would net him a full military pension/benefits and also, with the work he would have done to advance his career to the point of becoming a Major in the first place, everything he'd need on his resume to go get a new job as an operations manager/mid-level executive and then continue working his way up to his own golden parachute. He is 38-40 at Most in 2004.
Of course Leon reacts with incredulity at seeing him in Spain, and thinks the only reason Krauser must be there is because he has a grudge against the government: even with his supposedly career-ending injury, he had a lengthy and decorated service record that would have opened doors for him as a civilian had he been ok with settling down and going to work for Lockheed Martin or whatever.
Unfortunately Krauser's favorite movie is Fight Club and he feels like his life only has meaning when he's in combat or whatever so he joined a worm cult, cultivated an obsession for the World's Most Beautiful Government Agent, and then died with double bone-claw hands having sacrificed everything including his ability to jerk off for something that he himself ultimately admits is wrong and pointless.

Finally after scrolling through, I can find it. I really love when devs put so many details about their characters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Took some pictures around Krauser's tent! I was especially interested in this after seeing someone post a pic of the title screen which had an ashtray on it, so I wanted to see if that was actually in his tent!
The fact that it is... Is fucking me up big time. Krauser smoking? Hello???
Some of the other items here are interesting too. Obviously there's all the dogtags from his men, which make a complete lie of his words to Leon about how his seeking power isn't for revenge - why would he keep those tags, and out on his desk at that, otherwise? He's taunting Leon, trying to get a rise out of him.
The cream of celery soup cans are hilarious and depressing, poor guy. There's a few of those old books scattered around too, which makes me wonder if they're from Los Illuminados. No obvious symbol on them, but they look old enough to be that.
Ofc lots of military gear: webbing straps, bandages neatly folded in a tin with some hydrochloric acid (plus lots of bloodied bandages on the bed which is also interesting, I wonder if they're from his own transformations?), a battered old leather bag, and then two large weapon cases which must be for his bow since the smp he uses is very small.
All the tools scattered on the table near the first box are good, they imply that he really did spend all that time setting up the Ruins arena just for Leon - look, he even made all the traps and things himself! Anything for the pretty boy!
However my main takeaway from all this is still..... Krauser smoking...... Hrrrrghhhhhhh

Taken a Chance
Jack Krauser x female, military reader
Requested by: @zer0pm
I think you entertained this idea before… we know Krauser was like a father to his squadron. Imagine he was absolutely smitten with one of his soldiers (can be reader/oc- your call) and one day, he bites the bullet and decides to let his feelings be known.
He takes them to the side, talks them up, and right when it seems like they’re on the same page and things are looking up for our super soldier- bam! They get the call to order for a certain “operation”. And they have to put their conversation on hold.
Sorry, I may have put in too much but if this seems like something you’d love to tackle, I’d love to read it. Love seeing your stuff~
Warning: Spoilers for Operation Javier and RE 4 remake. Fluff. Light angst at the end.
Word count: 1,488
I LOVE THIS!! Thank you so much for requesting this!
Please enjoy!

Krauser made no attempt to hide the smile that lifted his lips a little as he watched [Name] step out from the army-van, along with her comrades, most of them smiling and cheering at their completed mission. Amidst the mass of movement, camo-wearing beings, he could always isolate her out of them. Every single time.
He greeted and welcomed back every single one of his men as they passed him, proud to see them back. But his eyes lingered when [Name] approached him, a smile on her lips as she looked up at him.
"Major Krauser." Her smile cut through him and his own smile grew warmer as he nodded his head back at her,
"[Surname]." His eyes took note of the splotch of purple and blue on her cheek, his brow furrowing very lightly. The sight of it making his chest twinge at the idea of her being hurt in someway. But she was tough, he knew that better than anyone. He trained her, after all. The two stood there for a moment, an air of uncertainty simmered, words both wishing to say but unable to do so.
"Um... I'm gonna... get washed up and... yeah." [Name] forced out with a polite nod of her head before walking off. Krauser watched her leave before silently cursing himself. He had this whole little thing planned in his mind about talking to her, trying to find an excuse to be alone with her. And yet, when the opportunity presented itself, the words refused to come out. Krauser never had any issue barking orders at the rookies, in fact, he often enjoyed it.
But with her? He couldn't even form a proper conversation, stumbling almost like he was back in high-school boy. [Name]'s presence, her existence, it touched something deep inside him that he had buried down, long-forgotten corner of himself, and now, he longed for it. He longed for her to be his.
He watched as she rushed off, catching up with her fellow comrades that were gathering together before she disappeared entirely from sight, twinges of disappointment gnawed away at him once she was gone. He gathered himself and went to continue about his duties, trying to get the thought of her out of his head.
There were bits of paperwork he needed to organise and whatnot. Planning out further training routes. They were going to be taking a trip through the jungle soon, to see how prepared they were for a serious mission. Sharing tents wouldn't be fun, but they would all have to suck it up and accept it.
Maybe he could share a tent with [Name]? Purposely arrange it so she had to share a tent? A heavy sigh left his lips as he ran his hand through his slicked back hair. "Fuck it." With that, he set the pen down on his desk and stood up.
The mess hall was quieter at this time of the afternoon, as everyone had finished eating and gone to take a small break for the evening. A handful of people remained, scattered about either in small groups or their own little world.
Among a small group, he could spot her [Hair colour] easily from across the room, like a black dot on a sheet of white wallpaper. His chest warmed, and he had to fight the smile that tried to form. He had to remain professional among the other rookies. He walked over, taking steady strides as he closed the space between them.
"[Surname], my office, five minutes." His stern voice made the younger woman blink, confusion on her face but she smiled regardless.
"Ooooo! You're in trouble, girl!" One of the soldiers teased as Krauser walked off, the rest of them chuckled a little.
[Name] joined in the chuckle, though she couldn't help but wonder what Krauser wanted. She hadn't done anything to earn her Major's anger, right? From what she gathered, he was quite happy with her progress. Maybe it had something to do with the recent mission?
Questions spiralled in her mind as she watched Major Krauser walk off, her eyes trailing along his build before he vanished. He did have a nice behind. She waited a few minutes before approaching Major Krauser's office. A light anxiousness chewed away at her for a moment before she knocked on the door, entering once hearing him from inside.
Krauser stood with his back to her, taking a breath then turned around to face her. His expression unreadable but held a faint softness around the edges, a softness that he only held to her and her alone. [Name] stood straight, her form professional as she addressed her Major. He nodded his head, a silent manner of telling her to stop.
"You wished to speak to me, Major?" That anxiety from before came flooding back into her mind, swimming around noisily, spilling questions upon questions, doubts drenched in deeper doubts.
"I did, [Name]." His use of her first name both sparked joy and panic. His posture attempted to relax but something kept it firm and stiff despite his best efforts. "As you're aware, your progress here has been incredible. I dare say you're one of the best damn soldiers I've ever seen." A light bubbling sensation filled her chest at his praise, her eyes lighting up in that manner that made him smile, knowing that he caused that spark in her eyes.
"Thank you, Major Krauser. I have only you to thank for that, given your teachings." Now it was his turn for his eyes to lit up. Krauser was always strict with his teachings and his training.
"Coming from you, that means something else." He smiled, his eyes locked on her, taking in every little detail of her form, her face. All of it. "I won't lie, and I'll get right to the point." He took a deep breath and straightened himself, "I can't stop thinking about you."
There were so many things he wanted to say, wanted to spill out to her, but he needed to keep himself composed and organised. He won't crumble because of some emotions. "For some time now, you've been on my mind. You're remarkable. A damn fine woman who won't take shit from nobody. I respect that. And you." She looked up at him, those beautiful [Eye colour] eyes gazing into his soul.
It was hard for him not to smile at her. "I'm not the best with words, and I care about you. Deeply." All these thoughts, this moment, he had played it over and over in his mind countless times. Picturing how he would tell her, how he would confess to her. Even now, it felt difficult but he pushed through it. He would never back down against anything.
[Name]'s expression was soft, gentle and warm, a ray of sunlight in his life, as she always had been. Slowly, she took a step closer and carefully reached her hand out to his. He allowed it. His heart hammering in his chest as her hand gently slid into his hand. Their size difference was always humorous to him. Her hand fitting into his perfectly like a lock and key.
"Major Krauser." She smiled at him, "Jack." His heart hammered louder at this and he tried hard to control his breathing. "I lov-"
Before she could finish her sentence, the door opened up and she quickly yanked her hand away from him, stepping back and looked over. It took great self-control for him not to reach out after her hand, chasing that gentle warmth.
"Forgive me, Major Krauser." A solider spoke, saluting as he stood there, "There has been an update, Operation Javier has been pushed forward. The unit is to leave today." Twinges of disappointment flicked at this as [Name] nodded her head as the solider left, turning to Krauser.
"We'll continue this after the mission, okay?" She smiled at him, ready to leave before stopping. She turned back around and walked up to him, leaning up on her tiptoes, and letting her lips press a soft kiss on his left cheek. With that, [Name] dashed off to meet up with the unit to get ready.
Krauser could still remember that day as vivid as ever. He stood by the edge of the cavern, his eyes holding a distant fog to them. In his hand, he held a dog-tag between his fingers.
'Lieutenant [First Initial] . [Surname] U.S Army - Special Operative'
The scar on his left cheek twitched at the memory of her lips on his skin. His eyes shifting up towards the night sky, the stars more dimmer than ever. "We never continued our talk after the mission, [Name]." He thought aloud, looking up as if she could hear him. But Krauser knew better. He had know better for two whole years.
And yet, he longed for a response. A sign. Something. But he never got one.

Chris inspired by Keanu Reeves? Oh and now I know why Claire looks so cute, her character is inspired by two beautiful actresses.
RE Characters Original Inspirations
As many of you know, Capcom absolutely loves putting nods to other media, especially movies, in the RE franchise. Some of the enemies, characters, and even game play situations were based on pieces of various different movies. Some of the characters, especially Leon, make frequent references to these movies as well, even directly quoting them from time to time.
Therefore, it's not all that surprising that all of the characters were inspired by actors and/or characters that were popular at that time. Recently, I've been going over some of the information regarding the character designs and found some interesting information from various interviews and such. A lot of this info comes from Shinji Mikami and Isao Ohishi who helped start the Resident Evil/Biohazard franchise and created the majority of the characters-- Ohishi in particular since he was the character designer.
Chris Redfield --> Jack Traven/Keanu Reeves in Speed (1991)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leon Kennedy --> Face based on River Pheonix, backstory and name based on the story in Leon: The Professional (1994)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jill Valentine --> Marion Ravenwood/Karen Allen in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Barry Burton --> Roger Murtaugh/Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon (1987)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wesker --> Roy Batty/Rutger Hauer in Blade Runner (1982)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rebecca Chambers --> Mathilda/Natalie Portman in Leon: The Professional (1994)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Claire Redfield --> Neve Campbell (OG2) and Liv Tyler (CV)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also, just a friendly reminder, this is who the original versions of the characters were based on, as in versions of the characters from the 90s. Since then there's been a whole slew of sequels and spin off games, and some of the originals have even been remade, the characters obviously look a bit different. But nevertheless, I feel like the original inspirations still shine through at times, some more than others.
Additionally, not all of the characters' appearances were based on the characters. Rebecca's choker was inspired by Mathilda, for example, but Leon's appearance was RP and his characterization and backstory came from Leon: The Professional instead.
Shout out to MV_archeologist on Twitter for getting the interview with Oishi (original character designer) since that's where a lot of the information comes from. Other parts were from different interviews, but Oishi laid a lot of it out very nicely.

Man, I love some fun facts about this game.
Yet another random assorted RE fun facts post:
By now many know that Leon's name and (original) backstory was lifted from the 1994 film Leon: The Professional, but he wasn't the only character inspired by the movie. According to Isao Oishi, the character designer for OG1 & OG2, Rebecca was based on Mathilda!
According to some of the original concept notes for Chris' character, his hobbies included enjoying rock music and "going with the flow"
Barry and Chris' relationship was based on the interactions between the characters in the films Lethal Weapon and Dirty Harry-- Chris was reckless and Barry would have to reel him in.
In addition to playing piano, Jill was also said to be into horseback riding according to some of her original character notes.
Chris' iconic "Made in Heaven" (MIH) jacket is not only a reference to the Queen song of the same name, but was designed after WW2 flight jackets according to the texture files from the material directory Capcom was using for the original games.
Infinite Darkness was inspired by live-action movies and they based a lot of the color grading and lighting on the noir look, according to the CG director Tomohiro Shimizu.
Quite a few of Chris' designs have featured tattoos. His alternate "samurai" costume for RE6 as well as his Sailor costume from Revelations both featured tattoos, however, a scrapped version of of an alternate outfit from OG1 featured Chris shirtless with a pair of jeans, and his chest and shoulder/bicep area was covered in tattoos as well.
In addition to a MIH jacket, Chris also has a MIH shirt, which is part of his alternate outfit from RE1.
Wherever Leon was coming from prior to moving to RC, it was seemingly a long ways away. The Japanese guide book for the original game specifies that it was past noon after Leon woke up, and since he arrived in Raccoon City well after dark, that means it took him a while to get there.
It's mentioned in the Japanese RE1 remake guidebook that Chris' haircut is very old fashioned and military-esque, thus making it not popular with women.
Chris' collarbones were purposefully shown in his RE1R design as fanservice.
While rarely referenced in the current timeline, it appears Outbreak is still canon, or at least parts of it seem to be. Alyssa Ashcroft, one of the characters from the game, was noted as the writer of the "20 Missing" report from RE7.
The Umbrella Europe Lab #6 appears to have been located in Paris, or at least somewhere in that area. According Nemesis' shipping label from 3R, Nemesis was sent from the Charles de Gaulle Airport, the main international airport of Pairs.
And thank you to crimson-head for doing so many interviews with the Capcom staff, since it was those interviews that got us a lot of the information regarding some of the original inspirations and behind the scenes details for the original 90s games.

More RE4 Character Model Details
I made a whole separate post for Leon specifically since there's a couple very interesting details hidden in there that I wanted to compare to his 2R mode, like scars, but for this post I wanted to focus on other details. These are the actual models Capcom used that were ripped from 4R by some very talented people-- I imported the files into Blender so I could mess around with them.
Looking at the texture of Leon's eyes, they're actually look a bit more gray than blue to me. He's also doesn't have limbal rings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's also got very long eyelashes. His dark circles are also very dark to the point where he almost looks sickly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like Leon, Krauser's got scruff! More scruff than Leon actually... by a lot. Leon's is more "fucked up while trying to shave and missed some patches" while Krauser's is just that he hasn't shaved in a day or two.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And for all the artists or just people curious out there, he's a close up of the patch on his sleeve and the emblem on his beret.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ashley's eyes are definitely more of a green-blue than just straight up blue too. It looks like she's got some eyeshadow remaining too. Also, her necklace is an eagle pendent!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Forgive me for the cursed image, but she's got her ears from OG4!!! They're just hidden by her hair.
