the fact that brian and clark from we object to fear are both gay but have no feelings for each other and are both instead into their ceramics teacher is so special to me ngl
this is relevant to maybe one person who follows me but i've started playing Dragon Age: Origins and they could not have made a funnier decision than having the sex in the character creation explicitly say women and men are considered equal in this universe
character creation: misogyny doesn't exist
2 minutes into the game: GIRLS are worse than BOYS
dialogue option as a fem character: im the bravest out of all of you, and im a WOMAN
Alister immediately going "WHAT???? a WOMAN???? you don't see that every day!"
Teeth are bullshit. What do you mean you’re decaying. Get a fucking grip. You’re a bone now act like it. You don’t see my finger bones decaying from jerking it too much now do you
ultimately i think the near-universal audience hatred of alicent comes down to the show having no sympathy for her as a victim. the main tragedy of alicent's existence is that she lost rhaenyra as a friend. alicent's marriage to viserys is treated as a status privilege she lords over rhaenyra (despite really having no power to further her own agenda or change her material reality because she's constantly countered by otto or viserys or sexually objectified). her teen motherhood and cut-off childhood is treated as something she did to herself by "choosing" to go to viserys when told rather than... what? running away? asking her father to make another match, leaving 12-year-old laena to be married to the king instead?
so you have this paradox where she's vaguely acknowledged as a victim, but her perpetrators are never treated as sex criminals, and also she "could" or "should" have made other decisions to avoid what they did to her. the subtext becomes that alicent is responsible not only for her own fate but also, further down the line, the fates of her children and rhaenyra.
rhaenyra is portrayed as "more" oppressed as a woman because she undergoes microaggressions and she is usurped. alicent's status as a victim of patriarchy and rape is "negated" by her alignment with her father. rhaenyra is a respectable victim of patriarchy because she rebels against it. and yet, in another paradox, she's not treated as daemon's victim until he chokes her in 1.10, according to the showrunners. because alicent's perpetrators are abstracted to "the patriarchy," she gets blamed for everything about her own situation in order to push the framing of her character as a maga internalized misogynist. she's not really a victim because she did it all to herself, which, ironically, is an actual tenet of maga ideology.
So we all know that Tumblr is US-centric. But to what degree? (and can we skew the results of this poll by posting it at a time where they should be asleep?)
no home run is worth it if you can't run home to a home you love
i've been rewatching the original cast recording and play it by ear NONSTOP for the past couple of days and i gotta tell you. i am absolutely, completely, utterly smitten with jess mckenna. please accept this tribute as a monument of my love
When you read Blood and Gold and realize it’s not that vampires are all exceptionally blasé about the shit they put each other through, it’s that Louis hates conflict and Lestat and Armand have been treated so consistently horribly their entire lives that they have no frame of reference for acceptable conduct.
“Marius, all he did was kill your family, burn down your house, and set you on fire. Why do you want to kill him?”
“Um, he also kidnapped, tortured, and brainwashed you.”
“What? Oh, haha, that’s right! Classic Santino.”
