Spring trends always feel like a breath of fresh air, especially...
Tumblr media
Spring trends always feel like a breath of fresh air, especially when it comes to denim. While jeans—be them skinny, flared, baggy, or straight-leg—truly never go out of style, there are certain nuances that gain steam during one season versus another. So what are the denim styles to know for 2019? After a little investigating, we got the inside scoop.
We reached out to Kelly Urban and Misty Zollars, the co-founders of the Amo denim  brand, to learn all about the denim trends that are going to reign supreme this spring 2019 . Since we knew you love to shop, we included shopping picks for each of the six major spring denim trends below. Much to our surprise, the highlighted styles are already bubbling up, meaning come summer 2019, they will be all anyone will care about.
Go on to read all about the spring 2019 denim trend highlights from Amo co-founders Kelly Urban and Misty Zollars.
“As women owners and designers, we are always adding a feminine spin on denim classics. One of our favorite trends is embroidered denim. We took our best-selling Loverboy, a slightly relaxed, higher-rise, cropped, straight silhouette, and updated it with tiny rosebud floral embroidery. The result feels like something truly special, but the vintage wash keeps it feeling a bit tomboy. We love that it’s a balance of masculine and feminine and is surprisingly easy to wear.” — Amo co-founders Kelly Urban and Misty Zollars “While we are still loving and wearing high-rise denim, there is something really interesting about denim that sits a bit lower (just above your hip bone) with a classic straight leg. We’re not talking the type of super-low-rise skinnies from the past that you have to buy special underwear for; this is more low-slung than low-rise, and yes, there’s a big difference, in our opinion. Low-slung denim feels more modern and is very flattering as it kind of just sits on your hips and has a bit of ease to the fit. It feels effortless and relaxed, like the type of jeans you could wear all day no matter what you’re doing." — Amo co-founders Kelly Urban and Misty Zollars "We love a classic mid-rise fit with a little something extra at the hem.  Our Tie Ankle jean is just that—it takes your classic black skinny jean and adds a flirty, unexpected twist. The inseam is cropped above the ankle so that it works with both longer and short inseams, so no hemming is needed!" — Amo co-founders Kelly Urban and Misty Zollars "One of our favorite new fits for spring is a long, straight-leg vintage-inspired fit, like our Layla in rigid denim. While we still love the cropped-at-the-ankle look, we are excited to have a longer, un-cropped straight-leg option for spring and are really into our take on this in a beat-up vintage-looking wash." — Amo co-founders Kelly Urban and Misty Zollars "Pintucks down the center leg is such a nice detail in denim as it really slims and elongates the leg. We finished ours with a little ankle slit and kept the wash clean and dark. The result is a jean that feels special but one that you can wear every day." — Amo co-founders Kelly Urban and Misty Zollars "Sometimes it’s just a little twist on a classic that can get us all giddy about wearing jeans. Our Ribbon Loverboy for spring is one of those styles for me (Kelly). It was inspired by the type of satin ribbon bows my mom used to put in my hair when I was 5. I have this memory of me riding my bike with those tassels on the handlebars, and I had pigtails with these satin ribbons bows in them. For whatever reason, those satin ribbon bows always made me super happy, and to this day, that colorful satin ribbon makes me smile. We updated our Loverboy jean with this two-inch-wide satin ribbon down the outseams, in wearable colors like navy, adobe, and pale pink. It feels very fresh and springy and, of course, very nostalgic." — Amo co-founders Kelly Urban and Misty Zollars Next up, browse the ultimate 2019 shopping list .

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time again for our...
Tumblr media
It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time again for our weekly installment of new arrivals . For today’s roundup, I’ve searched high and low to find the best in designer and  fast-fashion pieces—all of which just hit stores—so that you can be the first of your friends to wear them. After all, if you’re going to buy something, why not beat everyone else to it?
From pants and sandals to tops and dresses, I have everything you could possibly want for spring  and summer (not to mention, something for every style type and price point). Now you just have to narrow down your favorites and make room in your closet—sorry! So what are you waiting for? Shop my picks of the week below, and don’t forget to check back next Wednesday for another batch of fresh fashion finds.
A good tank is a summer wardrobe game-changer. She would have the trendiest merch. Statement top goals. A shirt worthy of packing for vacation. I want the top and the pants. + Monaco Linen Skirt ($92). My kind of beach set is one that comes in black. This dress is sure to be Sleeper’s next big hit. I highly suggest buying this $29 dress before it’s gone. Alessandra Rich’s dresses usually ruin all other dresses for me, and this one is no exception. Little white dress season is officially in full swing. I just love this print. Zara’s dress section is very on point right now. It’s only a matter of days until this sells out. If you’re sick of all your wedding guest dresses, I urge you to check out Intermix’s new jumpsuit capsule. So simple, yet so elegant. Snake print takes on a new meaning in green. Any brand that can put a new spin on the classic pant is worth watching. These jeans were designed to get you the vintage-inspired look without having to deal with the waist-gap that comes along with it. Party pants!  These well-crafted, classic sandals will stay in your wardrobe for years to come. Is it just me, or do these heels look five times their price? Want more? Shop last week’s new arrivals .

You see something you have to buy immediately. It’s...
Tumblr media
You see something you have to buy immediately. It’s stylish, in your price range, and will go with other pieces in your closet. Your focus is razor-sharp, and your resolve is mighty. But then you see those dreaded two words that crush your closet dreams: sold out. Sadly, needing to beat other shoppers to the best pieces on the internet is par for the course, especially when we’re talking about budget-friendly buys—but it doesn’t have to be that way.
To help you make sure you snag the chicest items, I rounded up the very best items at H&M that I predict will sell out the fastest. There are a couple of perfect little white dresses, summer-ready straw bags, amazing tops to wear with jeans, wedding guest outfits you’ll want to re-wear all season, and more. Oh, and there are even two different $40 versions of the major shoe trend we can’t stop talking about—you’re welcome. Don’t say I didn’t warn you: Scroll down to shop my favorite H&M items that will sell like lightning.
It isn’t summer without a little white dress. This easy dress is the ultimate throw-on-and-go piece that will match with everything in your closet.  The embroidery detail makes this dress look much more expensive than it really is.  Who could turn down this cheery yellow sundress? This striking dress is ideal for spring and summer weddings.  This is another great wedding guest option that’s hard to pass up.  These $40 shoes hit on the floss heel trend we can’t stop talking about.  Oh, and they also come in black.  Use this as a beach bag or simply a summer-ready purse.  The faux-croc pattern upgrades these chic flat sandals.  Because you can never have too many straw bags.  We highly suggest investing in the matching shorts as well.  An easy-breezy white blouse is essential for warm weather. Wear yours with jeans or cutoff shorts and sandals. The only thing better than this affordable denim jacket is the perfect way it’s styled with a leopard slip skirt.  This cute top is made with 100% organic cotton.  We’ve never met a ruffled top we didn’t like.  Now that it’s spring, consider swapping your black work blazer for a fresh pastel version.  RSVP to that pool party because you’re going to want to show off this cute striped bkini.  This swimsuit also comes in red and a floral print.  How cute is this ruffled swimsuit? Don’t be afraid to wear it as a bodysuit with shorts or a skirt.  A striped one-piece swimsuit will truly never go out of style.  Next, four royalty-approved ways to wear flat sandals this summer .

The official start of summer might be two months away, but...
Tumblr media
The official start of summer might be two months away, but there’s no reason you can’t start prepping your wardrobe right now, especially if that means stocking up on dresses that you can wear today through Labor Day and maybe even beyond. All it takes is a shoe switch and perhaps the addition of a light jacket here and there. Start with flats or mules during spring , transition to your beloved sandals once summer hits, and then bring back the ankle boots in fall. It’s that easy.
So back to the dresses. Thanks to our very own Who What Wear collection for Target , I’ve rounded up 17 of them that can take you through all of the above and more. Just keep scrolling to shop them and get a little dress-and-sandal outfit inspo along the way. After all, summer will be here before we know it.
This is the perfect warm-weather take on the LBD. You can never tire of a classic silhouette like this. A print that attracts attention. See the above Instagram shot for proof that this looks amazing with white sandals.  Perfect for all those weddings you have coming up. You will live in this flattering dress on weekends. All I have to say is Lauren Conrad–approved. Layered or not, you’ll get so much use out of this. Up next? Seven spring trends NYC girls are actually wearing .

Tumblr media
The second the sun starts to crawl out from behind the clouds and hits our vitamin D–deprived skin, swimsuits are an article of clothing that instantly come to mind. Considering the fact that most of our swimwear hasn’t seen the light of day for many months, chances are a few of the suits you once loved might now feel a tad outdated once you pull them out from storage. In case you are due for a little spring cleaning —we all are, to be honest—we’re here to fill you in on the swimsuits you can safely toss should you want to make room for some new swim trends  on the block.
With the guidance of some of the biggest swimsuit brands on the market, including Onia, Marysia, and Solid & Striped, we are here to present to you the old and the new swimwear trends of 2019 . Now, just because these designers are claiming certain swimsuit trends are “out” doesn’t mean you need to immediately throw them away; they are simply stating which sartorial swim trends are gaining steam for the summer season ahead. Or, if you’re like me and you have way too many swimsuits for your own good , this list of what’s in and out for the year will be your saving grace for making room for even more swim goodness.
+ Solid & Striped Ginger Bikini ($168) + Peony Grasslands String Pant ($64) + She Made Me Maalai High-Waisted Bikini Bottom ($150) + She Made Me Inika Crochet High-Waisted Bikini Bottom ($155) + She Made Me Essential High-Waisted Bikini Bottom ($155) Next up, shop our favorite under-$50 pieces of the moment.

You know the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t...
Tumblr media
You know the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”? Well, that’s how us Who What Wear editors feel about our go-to white sneakers and jeans. Everyone is bound to have a pair of all-time favorite jeans—and that’s a fact—but what we often glance over is that for every pair of beloved jeans, there’s a pair of perfectly matched white sneakers to go with them. Today, you’re going to hear from our talented and stylish team of editors on the best white sneakers to wear with jeans . In other words, these are our ultimate favorite sneaker-and-jean duos, and we suggest you take notes.
Ahead, you’ll see every denim style from cropped and stretchy to high-rise and starchy, each accompanied by the perfect pair of white sneakers to go with them. Ready for the jean and sneaker shopping spree of a lifetime? Thought so.
“I’m all for boring white sneakers, but this ‘80s-inspired pair is anything but. Even if I’m wearing them with something simple like jeans and a white T-shirt, they catch your eye.” “There’s no doubt I’m digging the chunky dad sneakers and embellished kicks trending right now, but there is nothing more versatile, classic, and timeless than these crisp white Superga sneakers. I get so much wear out of them. They’re great for trips as you can wear them with dresses, shorts, and jeans alike. On the weekends, I live in them with casual jeans and tees. It’s such an easy, and effortless outfit.” “I love classic white sneakers, and these Vans high-tops are my go-to. I love that they have a hint of a platform; they’re comfortable, and they pair well with these 90s-inspired Agolde's—aka my favorite jeans ever, which I have in every wash and maybe wear almost every day?” “Every time I wear my platform Air Force 1s, I just feel a little bit cooler, you know? I love that they’re a classic sneaker, but the extra height gives them a stylish twist. Though the styling possibilities are endless, my go-to way to wear them is with cropped jeans and a fun pair of socks.” “I already wear these jeans almost every day, and I just bought these new Nike sneakers to wear with them all spring and summer long. I love how they are sporty but still cool and polished and, most importantly, comfortable.” “I like the classic Nike Cortez sneakers because they’re super comfortable, affordable, and look good with any and all of my jeans—it’s a no-brainer outfit combo when I don’t know what to wear.” “I know the Levi’s Wedgie jeans have been insanely popular, and I didn’t know what all the fuss was about until I tried on a pair recently myself. They are such a good vintage dupe; it’s the best I’ve seen from a new pair of jeans. Plus they make your rear look amazing. Meghan Markle is a fan of the sneakers. French girls are generally fans, too. Basically, these shoes belong on your feet.” “Right now I’m gravitating toward '90s-inspired denim silhouettes, which means boot cut (yes, boot cut) jeans. I’m especially loving these from CQY—a newly-launched brand based in L.A. I’m pairing them with these Reebok sneakers that have a similar throwback feel.” “I can’t get enough of a cropped jean and high-top Converse look. It’s easy, the shapes of the jean and the sneakers are flattering, and both are styles I feel really comfortable wearing. I have these jeans in two washes and wear them nonstop. They are stretchy, but don’t look it, and are so easy to dress up should Converse not be appropriate for the occasion."  Next up, shop the best (and eco-friendly) T-shirt, jean, and shoe outfit ideas on the market.

Tumblr media
The term “repeat offender” typically has a not-so-gleaming association that comes along with it, but when you’re talking about fashion, it can definitely skew on the positive side. After all, if you really love something and you’ve invested your money in it, why not find every excuse to wear the heck out of it?
If this resonates with you, then you likely already have a collection of 2019 pieces you’re bringing out of the closet week after week. Similarly, some of our favorite “fashion girls ” (aka women in the industry who give us outfit inspiration on the regular) seem to have also established their so-called repeat offenders—and we rounded them up in one place.
Ahead, see what women across the world are wearing in droves, from a cute hat you can wear well into summer’s sweltering months to a color that instantly brightens your mood . And should any of these pieces be lacking in your wardrobe, shop our picks to join the fun.
There’s no greater way to bring your shoes to life than by giving them a splashy pair of socks to hang out with. Whether it’s a glittery texture, pop of color, or even a ruffle trim—a sock that gives a big mood is a must this spring.
Next up: See how fashion girls are styling their hair  right now.

Tumblr media
T-shirts and jeans just go together. The simplicity of a lived-in tee in a breathable cotton fabric married with the timelessness of a pair of jeans is the style equivalent of bread and butter. Take all of that and team it with a dose of style experience by way of women over 50 and what do you have? As it turns out, a whole lot of great style advice.
We turned to Instagram to find out the formulas for how our favorite influencers over 50 are wearing their tees and jeans these days. Many of these chic women are going the blazer approach (as you’ll learn below) but a few are also turning to bright, bold accessories and a slew of laid-back layers as well. Ahead, see seven outfits to help refresh your tee-and-jeans collection, and shop our picks to get these influencers’ spot-on looks.
Renata Jazdzyk proves sometimes all you need to look perfectly polished is a classic white tee and blue jeans. Follow her lead and complement the pairing with a structured blazer and loafers.
Tuck a long-sleeve tee into roomy jeans like Lyn Slater for a laidback weekend look. Accessorize with statement earrings and bold footwear for a fun finish.
Wendy Packer contrasts her simple tee and jeans with a blazer and pair of heels in a matching pop of color. If you’re feeling especially adventurous, try a bold print, like zebra.
The quickest way to freshen up your tee and jeans for spring is with the addition of a white blazer, like Cathy Williamson. Complete the look with a pair of spring sandals in a neutral hue.
Alyson Walsh’s laid-back chic style proves two cardigans are better than one—especially when worn with a striped tee and dark-wash denim.
Reconsider your everyday blues and team a white tee and white jeans for a quick and easy update. Annette Höldrich finishes her combo with a bold necklace and a crossbody bag.
Up next: The chicest women over 50 told me the fashion mistakes  they’ll never repeat.

Tumblr media
On Hulu’s Shrill , a six-episode dramedy series about a plus-size woman endeavoring to “change her life but not her body,” SNL’s Aidy Bryant plays the lead, Annie; and British comedian Lolly Adefope plays her bestie, the profoundly hip and lovably honest Fran. “The most dangerous thing a woman can possess is self-worth. Liking her own body, trusting her own instincts, valuing her own time,” The New York Times wrote of the show, which dropped March 15 to collectively rave reviews. “Sometimes this leads to advertisers having no idea how to corner us. If we don’t hate ourselves, how will we know what to buy? … Sometimes, though, self-worth sets us free. ‘Shrill’ is a show where that happens, and it’s lovely.” It’s so lovely, in fact, that Hulu just announced it’ll be renewing the show for season two in 2020.
A significant part of all this loveliness comes courtesy of Adefope, whose quiet confidence, witty banter with Bryant, and eye-catching wardrobe of vibrant jumpsuits and bomber jackets make Fran one of the most feel-good characters on the show. Fran already possesses much of the swag and self-love that Annie is working toward, and as we learned in a recent interview, so does Adefope.
We got the chance to chat with the stylish star about her favorite costumes on Shrill , her holy-grail clothing items, and the advice she’d most like to bestow on the plus-size fashion industry. Keep scrolling to read our conversation with Lolly Adefope (and to shop some of her best-kept style secrets).

Tumblr media
Celebrities: They love spring as much as you do. It seems like celebs are out and about more in spring than other seasons (isn’t everyone?), and they’ve clearly been eager to shed winter’s layers in favor of dresses, white denim, and crop tops. That said, you don’t necessarily have to show a ton of skin in order to embrace the mild spring weather. Kate Middleton and Priyanka Chopra are proof of that. Just as we did this past winter and for previous seasons, we chose the very best celebrity outfits of spring 2019 thus far.
As you’ll see below, spring has already provided plenty of celebrity outfit inspiration, and we still have a solid two months left to go before summer officially arrives. And you know what that means: a lot more spring outfits left to plan. So with that in mind, scroll on to see which 11 celebrity outfits we’ve lost it over this spring, and shop the key pieces you’ll need to pull them off yourself.
This is the definition of a transitional outfit: adding a light jacket and ankle boots to a summery piece. On Priyanka Chopra: Reformation Samson Two Piece ($248); By Far bag Between the oversize blazer, baggy jeans, and hint of neon, Hailey Bieber couldn’t have been more on trend with this look if she tried. On Hailey Bieber: Acne Studios Beige Linen Jana Blazer ($750); Brandy Melville tank top; Maison Margiela jeans; Balenciaga bag and Square Knife Pumps ($950) This look is difficult to replicate if you don’t have the budget for Ralph & Russo, but it made our jaws drop nonetheless.  On Gemma Chan: Ralph & Russo top and pants This just might be our favorite Gigi Coachella look of all time. It was perfectly festival-appropriate without being cliché, and that Ganni vest speaks for itself. On Gigi Hadid: Le Specs The Outlaw Sunglasses ($109); Ganni Tie-Dye Vest ($475); Alyx pants; Dr. Martens Black 1460 Mono Lace-Up Boots ($140) There’s a lot to love about this look that Graham just wore for Gigi Hadid’s birthday party, but the chain belt might be our favorite element.  On Ashley Graham: Levi’s Made & Crafted denim jacket; Fendi bag Rihanna technically wore this at the end of January, but she was clearly ready for spring early with this pretty outfit. On Rihanna: Y/Project Boxy Fit Blazer ($1458); Callipygian Bias Skirt ($195); Fendi bag; Manolo Blahnik shoes EmRata loves a good matching set, and we love her decision to pair it with sneakers. On Emily Ratajkowski: Oliver Peoples sunglasses; Celine bag Thanks in part to her new stylist, Kate Middleton has had a bit of a new look this year, and as you can see, it’s working out well for her. On Kate Middleton: Gucci Silk Satin Shirt ($1300); Aspinal of London Midi Mayfair Bag ($870); Gianvito Rossi Suede Pointed-Toe Pumps with Chunky Heel ($695) For her 21st birthday, Elle Fanning wore the perfect party outfit. Take note for when your summer party invites start rolling in this year.  On Elle Fanning: For Love and Lemons Georgina Swing Dress ($282); Chanel bag We applaud Kendall Jenner’s decision to wear this minidress with an It bag and grandma heels, both of which made it look even cooler.  On Kendall Jenner: Are You Am I Lyth Hoops $140); Christopher Kane dress; Chloé C Bag Mini ($1278); Stuart Weitzman Edith Pumps ($256) Kate Bosworth embarked on Coachella weekend one in a full Miu Miu look in on-trend beige, and it was clearly a success. On Kate Bosworth: Miu Miu Drill Jacket ($1360), Denim Cropped Jeans ($990), and Summer Plexi Slides ($590) Next up, 11 summer wardrobe staples women over 40 never forget to buy .

There are a number of things in life that give me a natural high: Sunday afternoons cuddling with my newborn. Long, hot bubble baths. Watching back to back episodes of Game of Thrones. And stumbling upon a sartorial gem that is chic and affordable. As a shopping specialist and your trusty market editor, I get unquestionably giddy for the latter. This fashion high tends to happen more often than not when perusing one of my favorite fast-fashion retailers, Topshop .
Never one to disappoint, Topshop is a treasure trove for affordable finds that are always on trend and look way more expensive than they actually are. Today, I’m sharing some of my latest and greatest under-$100 Topshop finds that I’ve unearthed from the site in the past few weeks. These are perfect to take you from spring to summer in style and hit some of the season’s biggest trends. Whether for work or the weekend, there’s an affordable stylish gem for every taste.

Tumblr media
So, last week I promptly reported on Vogue’s latest edition of Vogue ’s video series “Go Ask Anna ,” which is basically an Anna Wintour fan’s dream come true (she gets very candid). The gem I pulled from it initially was where Wintour says not to wear jeans (click to find out !), but there was another morsel that was just too intriguing not to write a dedicated post about: the (very) common outfit combination that people have been wearing basically forever but that she says “just don’t wear” about.
When Wintour is asked how to spice up an all-black outfit, she’s quick to respond, “Just don’t wear all black.” She adds, “It seems too gloomy, as if one’s going to a funeral.” But she does offer up suggestions for those among us who insist on wearing all black from time to time. She advises one to think about, “adding some color, or favorite piece of jewelry, or maybe white boots. Just something that’s a little bit unexpected.”
I did a quick search of Wintour’s looks throughout the years and found that she very rarely wears all black anymore (see a throwback example here ), and when she does, she practices what she preaches and adds something interesting, like one of her signature statement necklaces or a combination of textures such as fur or sequins. Want to heed her advice?
Scroll on to watch the video and shop the three items Wintour recommends for “spicing up” an all-black outfit.
Next up, 5 items Anna Wintour would remove from your closet ASAP .

Transitioning out of your winter wardrobe can be tough,...
Tumblr media
Transitioning out of your winter wardrobe can be tough, especially when you’re slowly reincorporating color into your everyday wardrobe. Luckily, with the help of some darker tones such as maroon, the shift from neutral shades to candy-colored hues is easier than you’d think. The deep wine tone not only gives your ensembles an added touch of color, but it also feels incredibly versatile with anything you’re gravitating toward this season. That said, there are a handful of colors to go with maroon guaranteed to take the jewel tone up to an entirely new level. So why not let those be your starting point?
Like its deep indigo counterpart navy , maroon can often be seen as a neutral when considering the infinite spectrum of colors. However, depending on the colors you style with it, items in the dark red shade act as the focal point of your ensemble, or conversely the pieces that tie everything together. Below, you’ll find the seven colors to wear with maroon that will always look good. Scroll down to see them all, and then shop a few pieces in each hue to start wearing maroon on a regular basis.
Keep the cardigan trend going with this cream piece. A knit tank top for spring will feel so refreshing. In or out of the office, you can’t go wrong with a classic check blazer. These pants are one of the easiest ways to wear animal print. Style this with a pair of your favorite jeans for a look that feels casual that still pops. Leave it to Ulla Johnson to make a chic and elevated bohemian-style top. With the fringe details, this shirt nails the Western trend without feeling too much like a costume. Editors agree: You can wear these classic combat boots with nearly anything you own. Style this chic puff-sleeve crop top with a pair of jeans or sleek high-waisted skirt. The pleats on this skirt make it formal enough to wear to the office while the knit fabric gives it a more casual (and comfortable) appeal. Swap out your trucker jacket for a white denim version to brighten up your ensembles. A pair of high-rise jeans are always a welcome addition to anyone’s closet. You can wear this classic striped shirt anywhere, whether it’s to work or to the beach. The asymmetric hemline of this bias-cut skirt gives it a more unique look.  Up next, read up on the color trends fashion girls are wearing for 2019 .

Tumblr media
Last night, Gigi Hadid celebrated her 24th birthday in New York City, and naturally, all of her famous friends came out to celebrate. The birthday bash’s dress code was immediately obvious, given that almost everyone at the party dressed in head-to-toe denim. Gigi herself wore a denim jacket and bootcut jeans with a white tank top, while Bella and Yolanda Hadid, Ashley Graham, Alexandra Agoston, and Olivia Culpo all abided by the denim decorum as well. There were a few outliers, of course, including none other than Taylor Swift.
Swift nixed the denim theme and wore a Mango Houndstooth Coat  ($170), Zimmermann Heathers Sundress  ($425), and a cat-bedecked Anya Hindmarch bag. In case you haven’t noticed, Swift has unveiled a new look on her Instagram in anticipation of an announcement on April 26, and she’s also dressing accordingly in her saccharine printed dress and kitschy cat bag. Scroll down to see what every celebrity wore to Gigi Hadid’s birthday party in NYC.
On Taylor Swift: Mango Houndstooth Coat ($170); Zimmermann Heathers Sundress ($425); Anya Hindmarch bag On Gigi Hadid: Jacquie Aiche Taurus Inlay Necklace ($8500); Dr. Martens boots Next, the 49 best spring pieces to invest in—all under $49 .

Like many other things we Americans romanticize about the...
Tumblr media
Like many other things we Americans romanticize about the French, I’ve always been in awe of how these ladies seem to keep their fringe bangs looking effortless and fresh. My personal experience with bangs is that they look effortless and fresh for all of 10 minutes, and then they end up stuck to my face, swept to the side mixed in with the rest of my hair, or just generally unruly.
After many, many trials and errors, I came to the conclusion the trick is in the styling itself. It’s not like French women don’t experience the same wind, heat, and humidity that we do, so it must be something they’re doing differently from the start that keeps their hair intact. With this in mind, I reached out to one of L.A.’s top hairstylists Linet K. to find out where I’m going wrong—and how to turn my regular fringe bangs into effortless French-girl bangs.
Linet walked me through a step-by-step tutorial on how to achieve said fringe bangs, so today I’m sharing the same routine with you below—and it’s actually much easier than I imagined. The key is all in the blow-dry technique, and being as uncoordinated as I am, if I can do this, so can you. Promise. Keep scrolling to learn the easiest way to style fringe bangs, plus see the recommended products you’ll need to ensure they stay put all day.
After showering, spray wet hair with a lightweight heat protectant and comb through evenly. This will prevent as much damage as possible from your blow dryer. Linet recommends this one , but any heat protectant will help.
This is the one Linet uses—and it smells divine.
The ultimate wet brush.
Blow-dry your hair as normal until it’s about 75% dry. Then part your hair down the middle and section off the front of your hair—from the arch of your eyebrow up is perfect. I find it helpful to loosely clip the rest of my hair back so I can focus on the front pieces.
This little guy is way more powerful than it looks.
I truly couldn’t style my hair without the help of clips.
Using a round brush, pull your bangs forward away from your face at a 90-degree angle with your blow dryer underneath, about an inch away from the hair. Then, in the same motion, pull them all the way back away from your face (toward the back of your head) for volume. Keep repeating this motion until your bangs are just about dry.
Have you ever seen a chicer round brush?
Now, reclaim your middle part and take just the right side of your bangs and repeat the same motion out to that side so that it flairs. Then, do the same thing on the left side.
Finally to set your hair, use a texture/finishing spray to hold it all in place and add just a bit of grit. Linet recommends holding the spray bottle 12 inches away from your hair so as not to overdo it and make your strands feel crunchy—less is definitely more here.
This is my personal favorite—it gives a great texture and also makes your hair smell amazing.
Also smells heavenly.
Violà—your French-girl bangs are complete! I personally spray a lightweight hairspray all over my hair at the end (I have fine hair, so if I don’t it will be flat in a few seconds), but this step is totally up to you. Everyone’s hair is different and your desired hold is unique.
Now, let’s say your hair is already done from earlier in the day or the previous one, and you don’t have time to re-wet and blow dry your hair again but you want to refresh your fringe bangs. Linet says you can achieve the same effect using a curling iron—just curl outward on each side using the same motion you would with a round brush. She recommends a larger iron for this so they don’t end up too tight (1.25 inches is ideal).
I have this curling iron and swear by it—it gets insanely hot (be careful handling!) so it works quickly and my hair actually stays curled all day.
Another cult-favorite tool. Next up: The 20 coolest spring hair looks from around the world.
