I also forgot to ask you in my previous message if it's true that the gift Cove gives you in Happiness after your date is related to the objects we choose for the bedroom?
No worries that you forgot! I like having asks separated like this anyway~
I imagine you're referring to the second gift that Cove gives you? Because if so, then yes, you're correct! In fact, all three gifts that Cove gives the MC over the course of the three outings are based on your choices throughout the game on at least some level.
The first gift, for example, which is given after Cove arrives at the door on the morning of your first outing with him, is dependent on multiple factors. If you've told Cove your favorite flower in Long Day, are at Crush/Love with Cove, and are not dating Baxter, Cove will give you that flower. If instead you're Fond with Cove, dating Baxter, and/or didn't pick a favorite flower in Long Day, then Cove will give you a gift based on your hobby. The hobby chosen is whatever you picked last when talking to Kyra in the Step 2 intro, or whatever you picked last in the Step 3 intro if you chose that you were into new hobbies rather than sticking to the old ones.
The second gift - the one you mentioned - that's given after Cove arrives at the door before the second outing is indeed based on what objects you have in your bedroom. Some objects also take priority over others, with plants and framed paintings being near the bottom.
The third gift that's given after Cove sneaks through the window before the third outing, regardless of if the MC planned a surprise in return or not, is based on your plans for the future. Specifically, if you applied anywhere, are planning on staying local, and if you told Cove or not.
I put below the break what gifts Cove will give the MC for anyone who wants to know/plan ahead:
First Gift (whichever hobby the MC picked last in the Step 2/3 intro if the MC did not tell Cove their favorite flower in Long Day, are at Fond, and/or are dating Baxter)
if Reading - a new book you'd been waiting for
if Fashion - an accessory
if Sports - exercise shoes
if Music - a poster of a band you love
if Games - a new game you'd been waiting for
if Writing - a writing journal
if Media - a physical series collection of a show you love
if Art - a mix pack of new art supplies
if Ocean - a rare shell
Second Gift (depending on the MC's choices for their room; I've listed them in order of the highest to lowest priority, and I've also marked in parentheses which room colors allow for them)
if Ukulele (blue/green/purple) - a ukulele case
if Teddy Bear (any) - a stuffed animal
if Telescope (any) - a telescope lens
if Galaxy Cloth (blue/green) - a star map
if Volleyball (green/yellow) - a volleyball bag
if Candles (purple) - a candle
if Photos/Corkboard (green/yellow) - a photo collection
if Vase (purple) - a vase
if Plants (any) - a potted plant
if Framed Paintings (any) - a painting
if Foot Stool (blue/purple) - a throw pillow
Third Gift (based on plans for the future; note that if you applied for schools and jobs, the game will prioritize school)
if applied for School, are not staying local, and told Cove - a t-shirt with the logo of the college you'd applied to
if applied for a Job, are not staying local, and told Cove - a t-shirt with the logo of the company you'd applied to
if made plans for Travel, are not staying local, and told Cove - a thick pack of postcards and stamps
if other (meaning you either didn't tell Cove your plans, hadn't begun to do anything/only started to prepare for the future in general, or simply planned on staying local) - a mug matching Cove's, stamped with Sunset Bird's town symbol

Thank you again for taking the time to answer my question about Derek and Baxter's Moments! I've just finished Step 2 completely and having read your post about Cove's post-high school plans if he's studious, I'm again pleading for your help: can we choose to go to the same college as him? And later do the same job (natural resource technician)? Not knowing at all how American (or any other English-speaking country's) school education works, I don't know if potential bad choices would prevent me from having these options, or if there's simply no possibility of having them...
You're welcome!
To answer your question though, no, you can't go to the same college as Cove, nor have the same job as Cove considering the narration.
You can have the same Step 3 job during Late Shift, but in order for the conflict in the Step 3 ending to work, the MC and Cove's plans won't line up perfectly even if you want that. It's the same reason why you can't make plans to share an apartment/house with Cove to solve everything altogether.
If you choose to share a business with Cove, it's separate from Cove's own job, so there's very little you can do beyond saying that you have a job and trying to get it as close to Cove's as possible, if you can.
You could technically headcanon that Cove tried to apply for the same college as you, but it would stick to headcanon only.
On the plus side though, you didn't do anything wrong! It's just that the overarching plot of Step 3 is that everyone will be going in different directions at the end, so there's unfortunately nothing you can do to prevent it.

Hello! If you have access to the images, can you tell if left wrist 2 in Step 3 is a wristwatch? It's really too small in-game to tell. Thank you!
This one? This is the largest size it comes in (they were very sneaky in the Step 3 CGs so barely any of the artists had to draw the bracelets; only the one from Drive does and it's the ones on his right wrist).
Tumblr media
Good question, honestly? I called it a wristband just because I wasn't sure if the white bit was a watch or simply a neat design, but it probably is a watch.

Thanks for the quick reply! It reassures me that I didn't just imagine this bracelet and that it exists in the images of the game. Too bad they took it out of the script, as well as the one with the candy, they were interesting bracelets... I've read several posts in your masterpost and it's really very helpful and informative! I have a question though: I have the dlcs for Derek and Baxter but I'm just planning to do the friendship route with both and romanced Cove. What would you advise me to do for the moments with Derek and Baxter? Do I do all the Cove ones in the step and then the Derek/Baxter ones, or play them between the Cove moments?
You're welcome for the bracelet thing! Glad I could help with it. :D
As for the idea of doing moments with Derek and Baxter...
I do think it comes down to a lot of personal preference, though narratively I also think Baxter's Planning should come late due to how heavy the moment is. I'm also going to assume you've read this post since part of it is about what Cove moments might come up in Baxter's (such as playing Happiness before Baxter's version of Hang, though keep in mind that the code is broken and you won't be able to beat Baxter in arm wrestling in Boating if you play Baxter's version of Hang even if you meet all the requirements).
Summerwork also references Responsibilty, Boating references Mountain/Sightseeing (either work and do the same thing), Late Shift references Drinks and/or Planning (depending on how you interact with Baxter), and Hang (either version) references Planning (partly since Miranda and Baxter have already met by then).
I might be missing some since I'm mostly familiar with how Derek's and Baxter's moments react to Cove's than vice versa, but to make it simpler:
Responsibility before Summerwork
Mountain/Sightseeing before Boating
Drinks and/or Planning before Late Shift
Planning before Hang if you want Miranda to be more comfortable with Baxter in Hang
I acknowledge the silliness of suggesting that you play Planning late and then pointing out that there are multiple moments that reference it. :P
I've yet to really play Cove's and Derek's/Baxter's moments consistently with each other (when I did Derek's route, I just did his moments, and likewise with Baxter's), but if I did I would imagine that finding a balance is nice.
I explained in my personal Cove moment order that I prefer to pace out moments that feature particular characters so I'm not on a drought of them (note to self: move Mall/Family around because of Lee), so I'll suggest the same here: a nice balance of playing two-ish Cove moments and then a Derek/Baxter moment, then going back to Cove, with obvious exceptions if Derek/Baxter were already in the Cove moment (like Mall/Summerwork for Derek and Boating/Late Shift for Baxter).

It's time for Step 4 Cove's posts, and first up is what choices change his look!
As before, my first post on Step 2 Cove's appearance modifiers will tell you a lot of what you need to know if you haven't already read it, but to summarize:
The things that your MC notices/favors/picks up/focuses on influence Cove's look, though there are some exceptions.
In some cases (though there are none in this step), a choice that changes Cove's appearance may also affect his coldness/warmness as well as his studiousness/sportiness. This is coincidental, so Cove's personality doesn't largely impact his look.
If you want a different Cove without using the Cove Creator, try choosing different aesthetic/taste-based options.
Specific to Step 4, however, there are a few key things to note.
Firstly, similar to Step 3 where some earrings would not be visible on Cove depending on what hairstyle he has, the same applies here. The black stud earrings will not be visible with the fluffy hair and the silver huggie earrings will not be visible with the tied-back hair. Ergo, Cove could be wearing earrings in one of your playthroughs if you have either hairstyle on him, but you just might not see them.
Also, the dark raspberry sleeveless shirt with the white anchor symbol and the yellow shirt with the orange flower pattern hide the silver ring necklace, so that's another thing to keep in mind.
Secondly, and I'll have to rip off the bandage for any poor person who wants their Cove to have a tattoo, but there are no choices that will give Cove a tattoo. It's something you can do only with the Cove Creator, which I imagine may be because one of Cove's tattoos can trigger people's trypophobia.
Third, it appears that the modifiers for Step 4 Cove's pants in Step 3 are not the ones actually used in Step 4. In all of my tests, Cove's pants always defaulted to the tan shorts with the gray trim and blue polka dots. If anyone has any evidence to the contrary, then I can test them out, but it appears that the plan was originally for Cove to have six different pairs of pants rather than four - with two of the pairs having color variation like Step 2 and 3 Cove have - but it was changed by the time Step 4 was made.
Below is what you would get if what I presume to be the original intent was kept in place:
Hang (Cove's Version)
If the MC decides to have a drink:
base flavor
An iced green tea. [Pants #4]
A black tea. [Pants #2]
A milk tea. [Pants #2 (Alternate Color)]
An iced coffee. [Pants #1]
A strawberry smoothie. [Pants #2]
A banana smoothie. [Pants #3]
A mango smoothie. [Pants #4]
A coffee frappe. [Pants #1 (Alternate Color)]
A vanilla milkshake. [Pants #1]
A chocolate milkshake. [Pants #1 (Alternate Color)]
mix ins & toppings
You chose to add whipped cream. [Pants #2 (Alternate Color)]
You chose to add chocolate syrup. [Pants #4]
You chose to add caramel syrup. [Pants #1]
You chose to add boba pearls. [Pants #3]
You chose to add condensed milk. [Pants #2]
-
There are two other types of pants - an alternate color version of both Pants #3 and #4 - but these aren't attached to any choices so they may have been scrapped even earlier.
In addition to this, though this is nothing the player themself needs to worry about, there is unused code in the game for Step 4 Cove's swimming trunks. This may have been for the scene where Cove strips down to his boxers to take a swim in the ocean, though he would've had swimming trunks on instead.
These are the choices that would've changed them:
Boating
If the MC was sick/scared and was brought downstairs by Cove, who asks if they want a drink (if non-Indifferent):
"Water?" [Swimming Trunks #2]
"Juice?" [Swimming Trunks #1]
"Seltzer water?" [Swimming Trunks #2]
"I don't want anything." [Swimming Trunks #1]
"I don't want you to go." [Swimming Trunks #2]
If the MC stepped up to make drinks for the group:
if the MC put only one ingredient in the drink
[Swimming Trunks #1]
if the MC's drink is "berry dominant" (meaning either the drink has two ingredients and all are berry - grape/cranberry/strawberry/mixed berry - juices, or if the drink has more than two but less than six ingredients and more than two are berry juices)
[Swimming Trunks #2]
if the MC's drink is "common" (meaning either the drink has two ingredients and all are common - apple/orange/pineapple/mango - juices, or if the drink has more than two but less than six ingredients and more than two are common juices)
[Swimming Trunks #1]
if the MC's drink is "uncommon/mixed" (meaning either the drink has two ingredients and there is only one or zero each of berry juice and common juice, or if the drink has more than two but less than six ingredients and there are no more than three each of either berry or common juice)
[Swimming Trunks #2]
if the MC's drink has more than five ingredients but less than ten
[Swimming Trunks #1]
if the MC used all the ingredients in the drink
[Swimming Trunks #2]
-
There are additional unused articles of clothing for Step 4 Cove, but these weren't attached to any choices (similar to the two pairs of pants mentioned above): two pajamas shirts and two pairs of pajama pants, as well as two formal shirts.
Cove also has code for a fourth pair of earrings, wristwear (for both wrists), and glasses, the latter two being connected to choices, but the game will simply change it to nothing. Cove's hair doesn't have an extra option exactly, but weirdly there are options to disable all of his hair (this won't give you a bald Cove, but default to the tied-back hair). I wanted to mark these just for the sake of being thorough, so if there's anything that says "[nothing]" rather than "[no change]" then just note that it's because the code is different for those options for the reasons above (so they might be calling for all hair to be disabled, for the fourth wristwear accessory, or fourth pair of glasses).
Keep all that in mind while checking out this list of chances you have to change Cove's look:
Step 3 Intro
After the MC's initial thoughts on Cove having to go away for a while almost every year (if not Indifferent by Step 1/2):
You sent him letters the entire time he was away. [rainbow shapes necklace]
Your moms helped you ship out care packages to him and his mom. [silver ring necklace]
You gave him special treasures to take with him before he left. [no necklace]
You kept an eye on his house for him while he wasn't there. [rainbow shapes necklace]
You were incapable of doing anything until he was back. [silver ring necklace]

You wanted to get yourself a box. [no change]
You wanted to get a box to share with everyone. [no change]

Aaaand that's everything! It's really a shame about Cove's tattoos and pants, and I can't help being curious about the potential unused content (there aren't image files or anything for them, unfortunately), but I hope this helped anyway!

Hello. Sorry at bother you but I'd like to know if you know how the MC in Step 1 can have a different bracelet from the 4 offered when Cove first comes to the MC's house? I remember in the MC Cut-in GG in the Lucioles moment that my past MC had a blue bracelet with a starfish charm.
Hello! It's not a bother at all!
I assume you're referring to Fireflies, when you can see the MC's bracelet?
You may be thinking of/playing a past version of Our Life, because currently there are only the four options you get during the prologue (threaded, crystal bead, flower bead, and shell). There aren't any other ways to change it, and even if you magically skipped over the option in prologue, it just gives the MC no bracelet at all when you get to the Fireflies moment.
I know what bracelet you're speaking of though because there are image files in the folder for that CG that matches the description you gave. There's also an additional candy bracelet.
Seen below, the top four are the ones used in Fireflies, and the bottom two are alternative bracelets that go unused in the current version of the game:

Any idea what decisions affect Cove's after high school plans?
Yes!
I'll actually be putting it in the Step 4 Cove posts but I'll put it here just for you, because you asked, as a treat~ ;D
It's all about whether he's Studious, Mixed, or Sporty.
If Cove is at all Sporty, he'll skip pursuing a degree and focus on his career, getting a small business for teaching surfing lessons. If you chose to have your MC share a business with him, then he does surfing lessons on the side rather than his main job.
If he's at all Studious, he'll go to college to study marine biology with his ultimate goal being becoming a natural resource technician. If he shares a business with the MC, then he has a goal of finding environmental consultation jobs on the side instead.
In either case of him being Sporty/Studious, he will still volunteer at ORCA whenever he can manage it.
If he's Mixed, however, he'll get a two-year degree and work full-time at ORCA, educating the public on ocean conservation and participating in shore restoration efforts. If he shares a business with the MC, it's all the same but he'll work part-time at ORCA instead.

I'm sorry for being rude but can you do MC's athletic point in step 1 guide too? I really want my mc to good at sport.
You're not rude, don't worry!
But the reason I didn't have a guide for it is that there are no athletic points in Step 1. There's not even an unused variable set for it (there is for Step 4 but not Step 1).
So you can technically "make" your Step 1 MC sporty when you choose options that imply that your MC is fast, for example, but the game doesn't really track it, it's more for just personal choice over your MC.

Next up on the list of analyzing the code is how Cove becomes Studious/Mixed/Sporty in the transition from Step 2 to Step 3, plus a bonus for how the game decides where he works!
Refresher for anyone who doesn't remember the last post where I talked about this:
Cove's interests fall somewhere in a studious-mixed-sporty spectrum, studious favoring bookish activities and sporty favoring athletic ones. Cove is mixed during Step 1 and can either continue doing so or lean in either direction during future steps.
It works very similarly to the warm-moderate-cold spectrum, being a points system based on the things you say to/do with Cove, but simpler. Cove will gain studious points and/or sporty points over the course of a step, which will be calculated at the end to determine which Cove you got. The game will focus on whichever you have more points in and the others will be "thrown away." Having not enough in either will give you a Mixed Cove.
A potential Sporty Cove should be encouraged to do more physical things whilst leaning away from bookish things, and vice versa for getting a Studious Cove. Likewise, if the MC makes it clear in their choices that they are more studious/sporty than Cove, he would gain points in the opposite direction (an example being saying that the MC is good at [insert athletic activity] when the option to say that both the MC and Cove are good at it exists). A Mixed Cove should avoid either one.
Cove's appearance has nothing to do with him being studious/mixed/sporty, barring the rare case where a choice in-game might happen to overlap with it.
Things do change a bit from how Step 1->2 worked though. If you read my post on Step 3 Warm/Moderate/Cold Cove, things change in a very similar way.
Whereas in the transition between Step 1 and 2, I'd stated that Studious and Studious-Mixed were the same as well as Mixed-Sporty and Sporty (the game only checks if your Cove is at all studious/sporty or not), now Studious-Mixed, Mixed, and Mixed-Sporty are all the same in the Cove Creator: all three options will give you a Mixed Cove with no studious or sporty points attached.
Outside of the Cove Creator, having 3 or under in either studious or sporty points will give you a Mixed Cove, whereas 4 and above will get you a Studious/Sporty Cove. Also, similar to the Step 3 Warm/Moderate/Cold Cove, the "coin flip" to break a tie has been removed. In the case of a tie, the game will only check the studious points and run with that.
How this plays into Cove's job (specifically during Late Shift) is simple: if your Cove is in any way Studious, he'll work at the library. A Mixed or Sporty Cove will work at the tropical place. That combined with what I stated above means that, if you use the Cove Creator, the only option that gets Cove to work at the library is Studious. Studious-Mixed won't work.
As for the options that add studious/sporty points to Cove, here they are:
Step 2 Intro
After Derek celebrates if the MC chose to run away from Elizabeth with the boys:
"Exactly, but we should keep moving." [sporty +1]
"Yeah. For now, at least." [studious +1]
"Victory!" [no change]
"My moms are gonna be so mad when Elizabeth tells this story." [no change]
When the MC realizes that Cove has stayed the night in their room (Fond/Crush only):
"Cove!" [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You laughed out loud. [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
You jumped out of bed. [studious +1]
You froze. [studious +1]
After Cove tries to sneak out back to his house (Fond/Crush only):
You wished him luck. [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
You rallied him to keep going. [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You suggested he sneak out the door instead. [studious +1]
You urged him to hurry up. [sporty +1]
Wave
all points given in Wave are from Fond/Crush routes only
If the MC brought a board with them to the beach:
"Cove, I'm not that good at surfing." [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
"I borrowed this board, but I don't know how to surf..." (if the MC is inexperienced at surfing) [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
"I'm ready to get in there." [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
"Wanna have a competition?" (if the MC is experienced at surfing) [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
"Will you give me some tips?" [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
If the MC didn't bring a board with them to the beach: [sporty +1]
(following above choice) After Cove offers to teach the MC how to surf, or if the MC brought their board but said, "I borrowed this board, but I don't know how to surf...":
You would rather just watch Cove surf. [sporty +1]
You accepted the offer to hang out on the beach. [studious +1]
You wanted to try surfing. [studious +1]
After Cove asks jokingly about a draw if the MC went surfing with him (not for competition) and got into a splash fight with him:
"Nah, I totally won." [studious +1]
"Yeah." [no change]
"I'd say you won." [sporty +1]
If the MC chose to stay on shore and watch Cove surf:
You continued to watch quietly. {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You started cheering him on after a really cool wave. [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
You shouted at him to remember to pace himself. [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You did an impression of a sports announcer. [sporty +1]
You made a silly face when he looked back at you. {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
Growing
During the third pause of tic-tac-toe or hangman when Cove wonders where the game's name came from:
"Maybe they named it that because people played it with tics and tacks."/ "Maybe it's what they had instead of real court trials back then." [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
"I've always wondered about that..." {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
"I'll have to look it up later." [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
"It's a really old game. No one's sure where the name came from." {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
Family
[NONE]
Dinner
After the MC looks around Cove's room (only if they haven't been in Cove's room before):
"Are you trying to make your own beach with all this sand?" [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
"It's nice." [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
"Thanks for letting me come over." {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You weren't sure what to do. {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
Road Trip

Mall
When the MC notices Cove and Derek in conversation:
You decided to keep listening. [no change]
You decided to join in with the conversation. [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You couldn't resist teasing the boys." (if Relaxed/Direct) {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
If the MC decided to buy Cove a windchime that...:
Had a dolphin charm. [sporty +1] {note that this will take off Step 3 Cove's left wristwear}
Was a simple design of just silver poles. [studious +1] {note that this will give Step 3 Cove the black wristband on his left wrist}
Had crystal strands. {note that this will give Step 3 Cove the chain bracelet and beaded wrap bracelet with the jewel on his left wrist}
As the group is debating on what to do about their lack of quarters:
"Why don't we all get on one ride?" [sporty +1]
"Couldn't we exchange dollar bills for more quarters at a store?" [studious +1]
You didn't offer up a suggestion. [no change]
Birthday
If Cove wins pin the tail on the donkey: [studious +1]
If the MC chooses to participate in the gummy bear toss with Cove and makes it to the final round:
You tried your best. [no change]
You threw it casually. [sporty +1]
You messed up your throw on purpose. [no change]
When Miranda offers to launch someone in the bounce house (Cove will ask to be launched if the MC turns her down):
"Ok, launch me." {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
"Not me!" [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
"I'd rather just watch." [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You remained silent. [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
After Cove confirms with Miranda that she didn't know what happened with Jeremy:
You got up and started bouncing again. [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
You laid back and closed your eyes to rest. {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You changed the subject. [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
You told her about the ordeal. {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
Summerwork
While the MC, Derek, and Cove wait for their rides:
"I wish our assignments were more exciting." [studious +1]
You stared into space. [no change]
"Got any plans after this?" [sporty +1]
Escapade
As Cove panics over the papers flying out the window:
Amused, you helped. [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You helped frantically. {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
You watched him struggle, entertained. [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
Soiree
(obviously, all Soiree points require that the MC is going to ask Cove to the soiree)
After Cove surveys the potential food (if MC went to eat with him):
"I don't." [no change]
"Gross." [sporty +1]
"And only some of it is any good." [no change]
"This is good stuff." [studious +1]
If the MC chose to go watch the band with Cove: [studious +1]
If the MC chose to dance with Cove: [sporty +1]
After Cove steps out of sync with the music if the MC asked him to dance (Fond/Crush only):
"We should have stuck to the Hokey Pokey." [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
"It's okay." [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
"Dancing is harder than I thought." [studious +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
"I'm signing you up for dancing lessons." [sporty +1] {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You quietly took a break. {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
Step 2 Ending
After Cove, Derek, and Elizabeth start speculating about the misprinted globe:
You wanted to side with Cove. [studious +1]
You backed up Derek. [no change]
You agreed with your sister. [no change]
"No, it's Australia." {note that this will give Cove warm +1}
You stayed out of it. {note that this will give Cove cold +1}
During the moment where the MC can ask Cove for a piggyback ride (Fond/Crush only):
You asked Cove to carry you back to the house. [sporty +1]
You nodded at him. [no change]
I always find the sporty/studious points to be fun to take a look at because even if I can come up with reasons for all of them, some still catch me off guard because I simply don't think of making Cove more studious/sporty when I'm picking most options unless it's obvious.

Hi! I'm just curious, what affects what kind of cake Cove chooses in the wedding DLC?
It's random!
When you say, "I just don't know," after being asked what kind of cake you were thinking of, Cove will respond, "That's alright. It's tricky when there's so many ways to do it."
After that, the game rolls a number (1-4) and picks one of the other four options if you hadn't chosen, "I just don't know."
White vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and a vanilla custard filling.
Chocolatey vanilla-chocolate marble cake with peanut butter buttercream frosting and a milk chocolate flavored ganache filling.
Fruity lemon cake with strawberry buttercream frosting and a mixed berry preserves filling.
Unusual citrus cake with coconut buttercream frosting and a white chocolate flavored mousse filling.

hi! as a person who is currently going through the game and screenshotting the different dialogue you can get from choosing different options lmao i really love your blog! i saw you had a post talking about what order you like to play the moments in, and i was wondering if you had opinions on orders for derek and baxter as well.
related question, i saw that gb patch said if you're playing specifically for derek or baxter that they don't recommend playing all of cove's moments, but I've been playing specific cove moments before derek or baxter moments because they give you certain options about mc that i figured would make a difference (like sexuality stuff etc). do the cove moments actually not make a difference?
Aw, thank you!
I'll try to answer both questions accordingly, but keep in mind that I will ramble, and yes that is a threat.
For the Derek and Baxter moments, I think the order the game gives is decent, and that's because I think they are meant on some level to be played in that order.
For example, having Boardwalk last circles back to Derek's confession (on a Crush route if you don't agree to the marriage pact nor confess yourself) or just generally his moment of finally getting to be selfish himself.
I do however think that Lemonade would make a better starting point than Responsible because it's better to slide into being introduced to Derek (outside of the little you get from the intro) alongside Cove, who the player is already used to. Responsible is a solid reintroduction to Derek's family but it can be off-putting to have the first Derek DLC moment be him pawning his siblings off on you so he can practice, especially when his whole issue/arc is him having problems being selfish (I recall being confused about it when I initially played his DLC for that very reason).
Responsible is objectively less dramatic than Boardwalk but you'd almost think that it takes place afterwards because Boardwalk is where Derek realized that he was forced into being let himself be selfish and nothing bad happened, which could follow nicely with Responsible where he dares to make a selfish request to the MC. Soiree is a 50/50 (if you go the route where you ask him) because he's technically being selfish but also he was asked by the MC so it's a little different.
Siblings I don't really have an opinion on. I just don't think it'd be first since you have the combo of Derek hanging out in the player's room (which could be seen as something closer friends would do) and the MC going over to his for a sleepover, nor last since Siblings is arguably Derek's most selfless since Elizabeth was rude to him yet he's still going through all this effort for her.
If you go for Derek's moments but Baxter's route for Step 4, I could also see wanting to play Soiree last so meeting Baxter is the last thing you do moment-wise (whether you do Derek's Soiree, take Cove on Indifferent/Fond but don't dance with him nor go as a practice date, or go alone).
(Keep in mind through all of this by the way that I've only played Derek's DLC once so I'm mostly just thinking of it from a plot/narrative standpoint and not super in-depth as I usually would.)
As for Baxter, there's solid reason for either Mountain or Planning being the last one. Planning is great because of the whole "this could be our last summer like this" angle (also the only option if you hate yourself enough to go for the Crush route non-date kiss), but Mountain is the intimacy scene with Baxter and also where he admits that he wishes that he didn't have to go (if you had the fireside chat with him; Planning is also brought up in that scene if you played it first).
Sightseeing can also go basically anywhere except the last moment since it's obviously a little odd to get to know him by the very end. The only exception is unless you want to ask Baxter if he's single, are on Crush, don't say that his Step 3 self is your first crush, but don't want to get into a fling with him while also not wanting to turn him down, since Baxter won't ask if Sightseeing is the last moment, but I think it's best at the start since you get to know him there.
If you already don't play Cove's moments, then I think the order of Sightseeing->Hang->Drinks->Planning->Mountain is solid because you go back-and-forth in a consistent rhythm of hanging with Baxter one-on-one to hanging out with him alongside others.
If I had to pick any of his moments to play before Sightseeing on a Crush route (if maybe you want to experience something with him first that isn't just Late Shift/Boating), it'd be Drinks. Seems like a weird choice due to all the drama, but it's the only moment where you don't get a chance to kiss Baxter if you're dating, so you could have it be first and not be missing out that much.
In terms of GB Patch's comments about not playing all of Cove's moments for extra content, it's technically true and almost outright discouraged? You'll know if you've played a lot of Baxter's moments and then play Late Shift without a job.
If you accept Baxter's invite into his house, it's pretty awkward. There is different narration for having been in Baxter's house before but there was also an original direction for when the player entered before the DLC was written (i.e: the MC thinking about the mean not-grandparents) and the attempt to keep that doesn't fully stick the landing.
Boating does better since you can bring it up to Lee if you're in a relationship with Baxter but nothing substantial is added.
I know for sure that there are moments that can be brought up in Baxter's moments from Cove, just that there aren't many.
Off the top of my head:
The name of your dolphin balloon in Shopping can be brought up in Sightseeing to Baxter (your opinion on the street in Shopping is brought up too)
Road Trip makes a return in Mountain if you agree with Cove that you don't like layering clothes (Liz basically jokes about the MC being out there in a tank top and shorts)
Whether you wanted to perform with Derek (or didn't and decided to let him brainstorm by choosing the option You gave a look to the other two.) on the shopping streets during the Step 2 ending comes up in Sightseeing.
The "Colden" joke from Happiness (if you made it) is brought up in Baxter's Hang
If the MC crushed on Cove in Step 2 but is crushing on Baxter now and played Growing but not Talks, you may come across a problem. Having chosen There was only one person you'd ever had romantic feelings for. and/or There was only one person you'd ever had those kinds of feelings for. in Growing will lock you out of some more suggestive moments with Baxter in Step 4 because the game will assume that the MC is attracted to Cove and Cove only. Talks is necessary in this case as it gives the MC a chance to adjust their orientation accordingly. Choosing the same options as in Growing actually will work now so long as you're at Crush with Baxter because the game doesn't know if you're talking about Baxter or Cove, so it'll let the Baxter Step 4 stuff happen. You'll know if you're locked out because you won't get an option to say whether your heart was pumping or not after your MC sees Baxter in his underwear and he greets them a "terrible morning."
(Oh, and not a Cove moment, but if you played Boardwalk, then you can recognize Xavier when you go with Baxter to meet them in Step 4, whether you got your face painted or not.)
I think it really just depends on whether you're that focused on building a relationship with Cove or not or would rather focus solely on Baxter. Cove's moments being referenced are there but not so much that it makes a ton of impact.

Hello! I was wondering if I could pitch the idea of having a guide system for MC's athleticism points? I think that would be pretty cool and useful! But ofc you can take all the time you need! Especially since you're working on the rest of Step 3 and 4 Cove guides and probably other things. ^^
Hi!
And oh, it's no problem! Athletic points are pretty basic and I've talked about it before, but it'd be nice to have it all in one place (along with what it affects) soooo~
For Step 2
Intro
When the MC is talking to Kyra about their hobbies:
"I go to the beach and..."
○ "Build sandcastles." [no change]
○ "Swim." [athletic +1]
○ "Look for seashells." [no change]
○ "Walk along the shore." [no change]
○ "Go surfing." [athletic +1]
"I'm into sports, like..."
○ "Tennis." [athletic +1]
○ "Volleyball." [athletic +1]
○ "Golf." [athletic +1]
○ "Basketball." [athletic +1]
○ (Type in your own sport to play!) [athletic +1]
○ "All of them, generally." [athletic +1]
○ "Watching them." [no change]
When the MC is talking with Lee about positive elements of schools:
"Learning new things can be cool." [no change]
"Gym is pretty great, though." [athletic +1]
"It's the easiest way to hang out with people not in the neighborhood." [no change]
"The cafeteria lunches at my school could be better than they had any right to be." [no change]
"There's nothing good about my school." [no change]
Step 2 athletic points only affect winning the gummy toss in Birthday, which I explained here.
Your Step 2 athletic points also do not carry over to Step 3, so you start fresh.
For Step 3
Intro
If the MC chooses that they've gotten into new things since they'd grown up:
You liked going to the beach and...
○ Building sandcastles. [no change]
○ Swimming. [athletic +1]
○ Looking for seashells. [no change]
○ Walking along the shore. [no change]
○ Going surfing. [athletic +1]
You were into sports, like...
○ Tennis. [athletic +1]
○ Volleyball. [athletic +1]
○ Golf. [athletic +1]
○ Basketball. [athletic +1]
○ (Type in your own sport to play!) [athletic +1]
○ All of them, generally. [athletic +1]
○ Watching them. [no change]
When the MC is walking back to the neighborhood with Cove:
You were walking tiredly after such a long day. [no change]
You strolled with a skip in your step. [athletic +1]
You ambled along. [no change]
Cove was giving you a piggyback ride home. (Fond/Crush only) [no change]
Hang (Cove or Baxter's version)
When the MC is choosing their body definition:
You had noticeable muscles. [athletic +2] {also sets MC to buff}
You had a little muscle definition. [athletic +1] {also sets MC to toned}
Your body was soft. [no change] {also sets MC to shapely}
Your body was delicate. [no change] {also sets MC to shapely}
Charity
If the MC agreed to meet Cove at poppy hill:
But you wanted to use the front door. [no change]
You could leave from your window. [athletic +1]
Your athletic points affect a few things in Step 3.
In Hang (Cove's version only), there's an extra bit of narration if you chose to stay with the group instead of going back to the neighborhood with Cove. With more than 2 athletic points, the game will note how good the MC is when the group is playing with the abandoned soccer ball.
In Errands, the MC can give Cove a piggyback ride even if they're average (with 1 or more athletic points) or short (with 2 or more athletic points). I explained this in more detail here.
In Charity, if the MC wanted to use the window to go out to poppy hill with Cove and refused his help, they'll have varying degrees of success whether they have 0 athletic points, 1 athletic point, or multiple (2 or more) athletic points.
In Boating, if the MC chose to decide turn order based on an arm wrestling competition and didn't try to distract Cove, they win automatically if they're buff (by choosing that your MC had "noticeable muscles" in Hang). However, if they're toned (by choosing that your MC had "a little muscle definition" in Hang; also, for some reason, the game checks specifically if you've played Cove's version of Hang for this but not if you chose to be buff, so ignore this if you played Baxter's version), then your MC only wins if they have 1 or more athletic points and Cove is not in any way Sporty. If the MC is toned but has no athletic points (same as above, you have to have played Cove's version of Hang), they can only win if Cove is in any way Studious. If you played Cove's version of Hang but are not buff nor toned, then Cove automatically wins regardless of athletic points, but if the MC did not play Hang (or played Baxter's version and is not buff), then the MC wins if Cove is in any way Studious.
In the Step 3 Ending, if the MC chose to go to visit Cove at night, there will be extra narration whether the MC has 0 or 1 or more athletic points when they try to clear the fence.
The Boating one specifically was kind of a headache so to recap that one specifically:
Buff MC (in any version of Hang)?
○ MC wins.
Toned MC (in Cove's version of Hang)?
○ 1 or more athletic points?
○○ Cove is not Sporty at all?
○○○ MC wins.
○○ Cove is Sporty at all?
○○○ Cove wins.
○ 0 athletic points?
○○ Cove is Studious at all?
○○○ MC wins.
○○ Cove is not Studious at all?
○○○ Cove wins.
Soft/Delicate (Shapely) MC (in Cove's version of Hang)?
○ Cove wins.
Did not play Hang at all (or played Baxter's version and didn't choose for their MC to be buff)?
○ Cove is Studious at all?
○○ MC wins.
○ Cove is not Studious at all?
○○ Cove wins.

Hi there! Going through multiple playthroughs in the game, I've noticed some things during the Happiness Moment in Step 3. Are the 2nd and 3rd dates you go with Cove are random? Or is it possible to choose the 2nd one at least? Since the 3rd date you can surprise him yourself with the new poppy location. I personally like going to the aquarium first, then the theater second because I think the scene discussing whether they would find each other even in another life is very sweet.
Hi hi~!
It's random, but you can reroll for it if you save and reload.
During the second day, after Cove shows up at the door and the MC meets him outside, save at this narration:
if Fond (or Crush but dating Baxter):
Then Cove chuckled as he pulled out another gift from behind his back.
if Crush and not dating Baxter:
Then Cove chuckled awkwardly. He didn't quite meet your eye as he pulled out another gift from behind his back.
The game rolls a random number the moment you get past this, at which point Cove will prompt the MC with one of the two other events that the MC didn't choose first. You should be able to get what you want that way!

Sorry I'm late, Piggyback Anon again. And NOOO that freaking sucks!!! 😭😭😭 I even played it myself by my MC being tall and buff and you were right, he still declines it. And ofc in denial, I thought maybe there were different factors preventing this, and was experimenting like being in a long relationship and being his fiancé. But that still doesn't change anything. 😭
I'm sorry if you mentioned this before in any of your previous posts but I have to ask…. Where did you access the dialogue options/code of him accepting the piggyback? Is it accessible to a person unfamiliar/inexperience with coding?
Ahah, I've been there where I've been in denial and kept trying different things even if I knew they ultimately wouldn't work.
And no, I haven't mentioned it in a previous post, but basically the .rpa files in the "game" folder are like a safe that you can't open but the game can see everything inside. It contains image and script files, the latter being what the game looks at and goes off of because that's where all the code is.
So if you can open the "safe," you can see all the scripts in detail. I also call this the "slow internet" method because I've sent a script or two to a very good friend of mine and I don't have the internet to send the full archive.rpa file which is like 814 MB whereas the script files themselves are basically just text files that the Ren'Py engine turns into a game.
From there, it depends on why you're asking. Fixing it requires at least a little knowledge in terms of knowing the variables to replace (really super basic stuff).

Is it possible for MC to beat Baxter in arm wrestling?
(just to be clear to everyone reading, the arm wrestling takes place in Boating if you've invited Baxter, chosen to decide turn order with an arm wrestling contest, and managed to beat Cove first)
Yes, you can beat Baxter! You just have to have played Hang first (it has to be Cove's version, not Baxter's). Trying to distract him is also a futile effort, so you have to beat him seriously by selecting "You kept your full focus on getting his hand down."
If you've played Hang first and chose for your MC to have "noticeable muscles" or "a little muscle definition," then you win (I know that you can select these options in Baxter's version, but it won't work unfortunately). The game does keep track of the MC's "athletic points" in Step 3 for things like giving Cove a piggyback ride in Errands, but they don't factor in when arm wrestling Baxter for whatever reason.

How do I win at the candy game in Step 2 Birthday moment?
Winning or losing the gummy toss takes three different things into account: the choices you make, how athletic your MC is, and where Cove is on the Studious-Mixed-Sporty spectrum.
The latter is decided either with the Cove Creator or by taking note of what it says about Cove in the Step 2 intro. If the intro said that Cove does well in school overall (Mixed), then you'll need an athletic MC, but if it says that he does well in gym/other athletic situations (Sporty), you're good to go.
As for how your MC gets to be athletic, that depends on your choices in the Step 2 intro. Don't worry about doing multiple, as even picking just one will make your MC athletic enough.
When Kyra asks about your hobbies, you can tell her that you either go to the beach and swim/surf (doesn't matter which), or are into sports (any sport will do as long as you don't only say that you watch them). You can alternatively tell Lee over the phone that you think gym at school is pretty great.
As for the gummy toss itself, here's what you need to do:
On the second round (you automatically win the first), do your best or have fun but still try. You could choose to "throw the candy without a care," but only if your Cove is either Mixed or Sporty; he'll miss if he's in any way Studious
On the third round (Cove's throw), try your best for a guaranteed win, or you can casually try to catch it if your MC is athletic.
On the final round, try your best or throw it casually (doesn't matter which, they lead to the same calculation and the latter just gives Step 3 Cove an extra sporty point).
Cove and the MC can cover for each other on the final throw if the other isn't athletic/Sporty enough. If your Cove is Sporty, he'll catch the gummy in his mouth even if the MC isn't athletic (which causes the candy to swerve to the side), and if he isn't Sporty but you have an athletic MC, the MC's throw will be good enough to cover for Cove's lack of sportiness.
It's only if Cove isn't Sporty and your MC isn't athletic that you'll both lose at that point.

Heyo! It's piggyback anon again! In which you can already guess why I'm here LOL
So, I remember in Step 4 Cove does offer you a piggyback ride without you asking. And yet I also remember you can decide to get one or not from him??? Maybe???
And just overall, are there any other variations in this scene you can get (aka can you give him a piggyback ride again in Step 4)?
Hi hi~! Nice to see you again~
I know the scene that you're talking about and it depends on a few diffrent factors (one of which you won't like the answer of, unfortunately), but the potential variations of that scene are:
(if Cove's initiative is set to high)
Cove holding the MC's hand (if you chose that piggybacks were a "special occasion" for them during the Step 3 intro)
Cove giving the MC a piggyback ride (if you chose that piggybacks were just a normal thing in their relationship during the Step 3 intro)
(if Cove's initiative is set to low/middle; these are all choices in a menu. so it's not automatic and you can choose whatever)
The player choosing to have Cove take the MC's hand/the MC can take Cove's hand
The MC can link arms with Cove
The MC can ask for a piggyback ride
The MC can offer a piggyback ride to Cove
The MC can simply continue to walk side by side with Cove
In the case of number 4 specifically - that the MC offers Cove the piggyback ride - a variable needs to be met, but there's an issue.
See, when the moment to offer the piggyback comes up, either Cove will apologize and say he's too big if you haven't met the requirement, which then brings you back to the menu to pick something else, or if you do meet the requirement, you'll get a new menu to pick whether the MC regularly gives Cove rides or if it's a spontaneous suggestions.
You'll get way more narration and dialog by choosing the spontaneous option, so that would be the one I recommend if you care about that.
However, the problem comes from the fact that I believe the variables that would allow you to give Cove a piggyback go entirely unused?
Essentially, how it's supposed to work is that if your MC is tall and buff or toned (not shapely), or average/short and buff (not toned or shapely) then they can lift Cove.
Being buff/toned/shapely is decided in Step 3's Hang (either version). Saying that the MC has "noticeable muscles" makes them buff, "a little muscle definition" makes them toned, and either "soft" or "delicate" makes them shapely.
The issue that arises that the height variable checked is for Step 4 specifically and there isn't any part of the game that sets your height for Step 4.
Baxter's Step 4, for example, properly takes the MC's height from Step 3 into account (so if you're short/average/tall in Step 3, that carries over), but Cove's Step 4 does not even though it grabs the correct variables for the MC's body type (which is set in Step 3's Hang).
I actually opened my game and checked for my MC's "Step 4" height (short/average/tall), but no variable was set since at no point do you set a change in height during Step 4.
You can actually see this for yourself during a playthrough of Step 4, as there are three different moments (you can't get all three in the same playthrough though) where the MC's Step 4 height is supposed to be brought up, but will be skipped due to no variable being set.
First is if the MC confesses to Cove. After he starts crying and you get two separate multiple choice menus to react, you're supposed to get one of these:
(if tall/very tall)
Cove brought his face forward to rest his forehead against your own. He was shaking slightly, and like this you could feel every tremble.
(if average)
Cove bent down to rest his forehead against your own. He was shaking slightly, and like this you could feel every tremble.
(if short/very short)
Cove crumbled down low enough to rest his forehead against your own. He was shaking slightly, and like this you could feel every tremble.
But instead, it will cut to:
Cove drew a deep breath, his eyes closed as he tried to pull himself together, at least a little.
Second is the alternative: if Cove confesses to the MC and the MC accepts. After he gets over his initial shock, you get this (if he's at high initiative or if the MC accepts when he asks if he can hold them on middle/low initiative):
Cove swept you up in his arms, lifting you off your feet to bring you closer.
The game checks the MC's Step 4 height and you would've gotten one of these if such a variable was set:
(if tall/very tall)
You nuzzled up against his bare chest, your cheek brushing against his as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
(if average)
You nuzzled up against his bare chest, resting your head upon his shoulder as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
(if short/very short)
You nuzzled up against his bare chest and wrapped your arms around his neck. With your head pressed against him, you could hear the rapid beating of his heart.
Instead, it will skip them entirely.
Third is a minor one at the ending when meandering back to the neighborhood with Cove. After the MC hears Cove's voice calling their name, you're meant to get one of the following:
(if short/average)
You smiled up at him, tucking away the past in order to savor the present.
(if tall)
You smiled over at him, tucking away the past in order to savor the present.
But the game will proceed without either of them.
If you don't want to do a playthrough but are certain you've played through these scenes, you can alternatively seek out the "OurLife.txt" file that's in the same spot as the OurLife.exe and Ctrl+F it to search for the specific dialog.
So yeah, I don't actually think it's possible to get Cove to accept a piggyback ride. I don't know if this was an issue in past versions of the game, but I have version 1.7.1 (the current build) and this is what happens for me and what it says in the code.
If you could give Cove a piggyback ride in Step 4, this is what would've happened:
You regularly gave Cove rides.
You enjoyed being able to do this for him; it was easily one of your favorite parts of your relationship.
You were being kind of spontaneous with this offer.
And Cove was nervous about it by how he chewed at his bottom lip. You tried giving him a reassuring look, but you didn't feel very convincing. Cove: "I'm really tall- fully grown, adult tall. You know? Are you sure about this?"
(if Nervous)
Pressing your mouth into a fine line, you studied him from his head down to his feet, and back up again. You crossed your arms with resolve and nodded.
(if Relaxed)
MC: "Very." You gave him a once over, and Cove raised an unconvinced eyebrow. Smirking, you motioned for him to come closer. MC: "Yeah, let's do this. I promise not to drop you."
(if Direct)
MC: "Yeah!" Cove took a step, but stopped when you gave him a quick once over. He gave you a questioning stare. MC: "Sometimes I look at you, and I still see the Cove I met as a kid. You got tall." You wrinkled your nose, teasing him. Cove let out an exasperated sigh. MC: "Luckily, I grew strong arms to keep up."
-
Cove: "Alright, alright." Cove raised his hands in defeat. Pleased with your efforts, you crouched down low to the ground for him to climb on.
(if the MC wears a headscarf)
He did his best to get securely situated, but a high-pitched squeak flew from his mouth the moment you began to move. By the time you were fully standing, Cove was muffling his laughter in your scarf.
(if the MC does not wear a headscarf)
He did his best to get securely situated, but a high-pitched squeak flew from his mouth the moment you began to move. By the time you were fully standing, Cove was muffling his laughter in your hair.
-
You hadn't even taken a step yet, and Cove was already having fun. This was exactly why you made the offer in the first place. His happiness made your heart soar.
