A Cheer to True RPGs
Video games, as a colloquial term, can be broken down into several pseudo-scientific terms.  The few I have been able to identify seem to be Arcade Games, Video Games, Cinematic Games, and Role Playing Games.  I put RPGs as a separate thing because they feel that way outright.
Now before you attack me, be sure to understand these are just my opinions.  No true science here.  I’m an ill-educated dark dweeb on the internet.  So let’s define these definitions in as rude a way as possible.  Since I hate repetitive games.
First, Arcade Games.  I define them as having a single programmatic mechanic.  That mechanic can be a simple iterative loop to a complex socially engineered habit.
Second, Video Games.  These employ multiple (at least 2) simple loops or habits. Simple.  Not much innovation to be found.  Video games are really just a whole lot of Copy/Paste.
Third.  Cinematic Games.  These are the stuck in-between worlds games. The games that are full of Hollywood bullshit.  Like tight shots, montages, action sequences and all that trivial garbage we generally love.  And I say “in-between” because they are stuck.  Stuck trying to be a video game while trying to be an immersive cinematic experience simultaneously.   Failing at both, imo.
Next, but not quite last, are Role Playing Games. The meat of this article and my blog. RPGs are my bread and butter.  I love them.  They employ a multitude of programmatic gaming related solutions to tell a story! STORY!  How I love a story driven RPGs!  But…
But RPGs only give hints of immersion.  It’s really just a tool to lure people in for social engineering.  Just one aspect of their cat herding shenanigans.  They are collectively like that bully in middle school that took your lunch money.  But they don’t punch, the lobotomize.
What I mean by “True RPG” is pure story driven virtual experience.  That’s what I want.  I have to make the game I want to play.  Project Blue Bolt is all about that drive to play a real adult RPG.  No hand holding.  No Social Engineering for marketing ideals and purposes.  No bullspit. Just a story the way the great Professor Tolkien did or the way Akira Kurosawa worked.
Tolkien didn’t bend to fit the medium, he bent to gift his children the gift of story.  The modern Fantasy industry was just a common accident.  The said industry, which I both love and hate, also spawned me.
Please enjoy my posts as a kind of outsider art.  I am but a poor stricken man grown tired of the quiffs and guffs found in modern video gaming.  I am making a game, but these posts are mostly for fun.  A way for me to gather-my-thoughts.
I mean no disrespect, unless disrespect is meant.
Farewell friend, for now.

The Best is yet to Come!
“Not knowing that you don’t know something isn’t knowing at all, but knowing of not knowing is a kind of knowing, I can recall.”
This Tumblr is about my Indi-Game Project “Blue Bolt”.  Updates, developer philosophies, tactics, truths & facts and all manner of bawdy noise will be posted here.  All in relation to Blue Bolt.  An RPG.
Thank you and Have A Nice Day!
