I was wondering like imagine reader and james are married and she works in the nicu and a newborn baby who was found abandoned was admitted and like maybe it's premature so it spends a good amount of time in the nicu so the reader and even james ends up bonding with the baby and in the end they adopt the baby
Like I can totally imagine james going to visit the baby in his spare time and the reader and him spending nights at the hospital so its not alone

“Hey, honey are you ready to…” James’ voice trailed off as he noticed you staring into one of the many NICU cots that was holding a small premature-looking baby. “You okay?”
He came closer to you, placing his bag off to the side, dressed like he was ready to leave the hospital and face the cold winter air.
“Honey?”
It wasn’t until James’ hand reached your back that you were pulled out of your trance with a bit of a jolt.
“Sorry,” you apologized. “I just…” you sighed unable to find the words to finish your sentence. “I don’t think I can leave him.”
“Are his parents around? Maybe it’ll make you feel better if one of them comes and-,”
“He was abandoned. Someone found him wrapped up on a doorstep to a shelter. He’s a preemie too,” the back of your fingers brushed against his toes.
James finally took a moment to look down at the boy, and suddenly he felt like he understood whatever was pulling you towards him. He was so small. His little fists balled up at his sides, but when your hand was on him he was calm, quiet, stable.
“Abandoned,” James didn’t like the sound of the word, neither did you. It felt so…depressing; unfortunate that his mother probably thought she couldn’t take care of him.
James’ hand descended from the top of your back to the bottom before snaking around your waist so he could pull you closer into his side to press a kiss to your temple.
“I’ll go pick something up for dinner from home and grab you something more comfortable to wear.”
You nodded your head,
“You don’t have to stay afterwards if you want you can go back home.”
“No, I think I want to stay here with both of you,” he looked between you and the baby. “I’ll be back in half an hour.”
You pulled your gaze away from the child for a quick moment to give your husband a kiss, thanking him for his kindness before focusing back again on the baby.
As promised, James returned with a change of clothes for you and some food packed in a tupperware, most likely leftovers from last night’s dinner.
“Go get changed, I can look after him for a minute,” he assured you and you carefully peeled yourself away from the child, your heart aching when you heard him begin to cry, only for it to stop when James reached his hand into the cot, tracing his finger along his arm.
You smiled a little to yourself before going to the locker rooms and getting changed, keeping your scrubs in your locker and eating a little bit of the food before heading back to the NICU.
You watched from a distance for a few moments, unable to keep yourself from smiling at the sight of your husband being so gentle with the small baby.
“There’s something about him, huh,” you said coming closer, now dressed in flannel pants and a hoodie to match James’ casual jeans and sweater.
He simply nodded his head, “When I first looked at him, there was just…a feeling like I had to protect him, and look after him.”
“That’s how I felt too,” you nodded, leaning into James’ side. “I think that feeling is love.”
“Love at first sight,” he chuckled a little. “Like a fairytale.”
“Yeah,” you nodded again. “A fairytale.”

“Dr. Wilson, are you here to see your wife? She just went to go speak to one of the mothers but she’ll be back soon.”
“Oh, no I’m actually here to see one of her patients,” he said. “The premature baby who was brought in with no parents.”
“Oh yes, he’s right over here. Such a sad thing to see, especially around the holidays, but he’s been getting the best care in the hospital if I do say so myself.”
“I believe it,” James smiled while walking over to the cot.
The baby was sound asleep at first, but awoke within a few minutes and looked up at James curiously before beginning to cry.
The nurse quickly tried to soothe the baby, but he would have nothing of it, until James offered some assistance.
“Be my guest Dr. Wilson, but he’s not too fond of many people.”
“I wouldn’t worry too much. We know each other, right buddy?” James asked while repeating the same motions he had the first night he met him, instantly stopping the tears.
“He seems to have taken a shine to you,” she said.
James couldn’t help but wonder if maybe he had felt the same thing too. Just like you both had the first night, perhaps, regardless of his young age, he knew he was safe and loved, and James was left with an overwhelming feeling in his gut that he had to do something about it.
“James? What are you doing here?”
He turned around when he heard your voice and you smiled, seeing him with the baby.
“I just came to check on him and see how he was doing,” he said. “Maybe we should stay again?” he suggested. “Tonight I mean.”
“I brought us extra clothes already,” you chuckled.
“Might as well bring the whole closet. I don’t know if I can go home knowing he’s here all alone.”
You placed a hand on his back and pressed a kiss on his cheek.
“Then I guess we’re just going to have to call this home until he’s discharged.”
“What happens when he gets discharged?” James asked, having a feeling he knew the answer already.
“Social services comes in, finds a foster home, unless some relatives come to claim him.”
James hummed thoughtfully, right now you both just had to hope he could make it to getting discharged. Then when the time came, you could see what that would mean.
“Any complications?” he asked.
“Some struggles breathing here and there. His lungs are a little underdeveloped, but nothing major so far.”
Your conversation was interrupted by the sound of James’ pager and he sighed, looking down at the message and seeing he had to go.
“I’ll get dinner later and meet you here at six?” he confirmed and you nodded your head, pulling him in for a quick kiss.
“Love you.”
“Love you too.”
You both took another glance over at the baby and with a soft little smile you said, “Love you three,” while gently tickling his foot with your finger, making him quietly babble in response.
James chuckled and pressed one more kiss to your temple before running off to go deal with a patient who needed him.
“You’re not getting too attached, I hope.”
You sighed, “I think it’s already too late for that. No matter what happens though, he should be loved. He deserves that, even if it’s harder for me in the long run.”
“I don’t think it’ll just be hard for you,” she came and laid a hand on your shoulder. “Your husband there seems to be in the same boat.”
“What can I say,” you hummed. “There’s just something about him.”

James rarely received pages from anyone other than Cuddy, the nurses, or his assistant, so when he saw your number flashing on the screen with the code 911 he picked up his office phone and called you immediately.
“Honey, what’s going on?” he asked as soon as the line connected.
“We had a major complication.”
He could hear the strain in your voice, like you were desperately trying to keep it together.
“H-He’s in surgery right now, I just-,” you pinched the bridge of your nose. “We were almost in the clear.”
James wanted to tell you everything was going to be fine, but operating on babies was always a delicate procedure, let alone a premature one.
“Where are you?”
“Viewing room of OR 3,” you responded.
“I’ll be there in a minute.”
James hung up the phone and quickly made his way over to the operating rooms, finding you, as promised, in the observation room of OR 3.
You were sitting on the edge of one of the chairs, gripping onto its sides so hard James could see the strain on your knuckles.
He came next to you and encouraged you to loosen your grip and hold his hand instead.
“James, I know he’s not my baby, but I-,” you bit back tears. “I just want him to be okay,” your voice broke and James pulled you into his side, rubbing your back and letting you feel all of that worry and stress that had been bubbling up in your chest while these events unfolded.
“He’s going to be okay,” James chewed on the inside of his cheek and you knew he was saying it for himself just as much as he was saying it for you.
You both could only get away with sitting there for so long before people came looking for you, and you reluctantly pulled yourselves away, but not before informing the surgical team to keep you updated with any developments.
It was hard to focus on whatever you were doing until you got a message saying that the surgery went smoothly and the baby was now recovering back in the NICU.
You had faith that during his time here, nothing else would come up and he’d continue to heal until he was eventually ready to find a home with parents who would love and cherish him.
The thought came with a slight pang to your heart, but you knew it was probably for the best.
As long as someone loved him, and he was safe. That’s all you could ask for.

“I can’t believe you guys are ready to take him,” you chuckled nervously, looking up at the people from social services. “I’ve just been here since they brought him in, it’s gonna be a hard transition.”
“Don’t worry ma’am, we completely understand,” the man assured you. “I’m gonna do my best to make sure he ends up in good hands.”
You were about to get ready to say your goodbyes when you saw James walk into the NICU.
“Hi, are you from social services?” James asked and the man nodded while James put his hand out to shake. “I’m her husband,” he pointed over to you.
“Nice to meet you.”
“I just had a question before you take him,” he started. “Um…how difficult would it be for us to adopt him?”
Your eyes went wide, looking up at James as if to ask if this was something he really wanted to go ahead with. You knew, deep in your heart, there was nothing you wanted more than to watch this child grow up and be there for every single moment, good or bad.
James just nodded his head and you quietly slipped your hand into his and gave it a squeeze.
“You may need to talk to your lawyer, but first we’d get a background check then start the process of registering as foster parents and then you can adopt him after some time,” he explained. “That’s the watered down version, but I’m sure it’ll be fine for two doctors, especially one who looked after him.”
“We’ll do that,” James nodded and the man said he’d go call his superiors to see if there was anything they could do to expedite the process, giving you some time alone with the baby.
“I can’t believe it,” you whispered. “How long have you felt this way?”
“Since the day we saw him,” James kissed you and you looked down at the baby with happy tears in your eyes. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” you smiled up at him, and just like you could read each other’s minds, you looked down at your son and both said,
“Love you three.”

Ready to race again ?

July 2023
It's no understatement that Daniel and Evie have been enjoying their time together since Daniel had taken a break from racing. She knew he missed it very much it was clear from the moment she saw him watch the first race he wasn't apart of. Though Evie knew Daniel was grateful for the chance Christian and RedBull gave him to be able to take the third driver position. It allowed Daniel to spend more time with his wife and family while also still being connected to f1.
That's where the couple alongside blake found themselves fulfilling said duties. It was Silverstone weekend.The weekend went off well Evie loved being in that atmosphere. Evie always loved Silverstone but Daniel was also having his tyre test on Tuesday this was the whole reason she came along and it had her feeling a lot of emotions. Anyone who knew her knew these things made her nervous but she knew she had to be there for Daniel anyway she could. She had heard the news circling about checo everyone had and she knew what this tyre test mean't for Daniel.
That Tuesday morning they woke up earlier than usual. "Good morning darling" Daniel said to her getting out of the bed and rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. Evie continued to lie there for another couple of minutes mornings really weren't her thing "good morning" she replied grumply. "Here give me your hand it's time to get up" he said the her stretching his hand out to her. " I love your little sleepy head Evie look at that mop of hair" he said sarcastically. Evie just threw him a look causing the aussie the burst out into a fit of laughter. Deep down Evelyn knew this was a way of Daniel staying off the topic of how serious today was and how nerve-wracking it was going to be. She glanced at him seeing the nerves present. "Hey Dan come sit for a minute" she said patting the side of the bed next to her that was empty.
When he sat after throwing on his shirt it didn't take Evie long to find Daniel's fingers and to start playing with them. Daniel always found comfort in Evie playing with his fingers he made realise that he was never alone and she'd always be next to him supporting him. "How are you feeling about today honestly" she asked. " "i'm" Daniel took a moment to process his thoughts " I'm so nervous but also so excited to get the drive a the car again. But I know how important it is that I have to show today that i still have that passion and drive left in me to still be in f1" he answered her question nervously while playing with the rings on her finger. "Hey look at me ok" she said placing one of her hands on the side of her cheek. " I know your ready to do this I know you still have that passion in you Daniel. Christian believes it to or else he wouldn't be giving you this chance. You just need to go out their and drive that car like you used to and everyone will see that the passion is still there" she told him lovingly. Daniel kissed Evie quickly on the lips. " I love you so much Evie. Thank you seriously for everything" he said quietly to her. "I love you to so much Dan. Now time to get ready" Evie hopped up off the bed and headed for the shower.
Later that day Evie stood next to Blake watching Daniel do the first tyre test. She couldn't be any prouder seeing her husband drive so fast around the track she knew without a doubt he was enjoying it. " Blake you know I trust you right" she asked him quietly. "Of course I do Evie" he replied confused as to why she was asking him this now. "Do you think if he can get a seat next year he will be okay. I don't want a repeat of last year Blake I'm not sure Dan would make it if something like what happened at mclaren was to happen again" she asked him calmly. Blake looked at Evie and put his full attention to the brunette standing next to him. "What happened at mclaren Evie will never happen to Daniel again. We won't allow it any sign of something going wrong on him and putting him in danger you know I'd be the first one in their to get him out". Blake took a moment to think before finishing "Though I believe you would be in there long before me to drag him out considering how it went between you and mclaren" he replied adding a chuckle. " Of course I would he's my husband" she answered back quickly. "And that's why I love you Evie" Blake replied giving his close friend a tight hug.
Daniel came up to the two a while after where they were sat at the back of the garage chatting. "Hey Dan how'd it go we saw you talking to Christian" Evie asked her husband. Daniel just stood there staring at his wife and best friend. "Daniel whats going on your scaring me" she asked jumping up from the seat and grabbing his hand. " I need both of your guys opinion on something and unless we all agree it's not happening okay?" he replied. Evie nodded along while Blake just replied with an "okay". "Christian informed me that while I was out on the track Nick De Vries was fired. Christian wants me to take his place and race for the rest of the year" Daniel finished staring at the both of them. Blake was the first to speak "Daniel you know I'd go anywhere with you so it's a yes from me" Evie stood there staring blankly at the two. "Hey Evie I know we had so many plans for this year. I know we were going to redo the house go on holidays and start trying for a family and I believe we can still do thst but if you don't I need you to tell me I'm not going to be mad darling" Daniel looked directly at her and asked. "No Danny it's not anything to do with that I know we can redo the house and I know we can still start trying plenty of drivers have families. I saw your passion today I know the Daniel Ricciardo who has won so many grand prix races is still there. I'm on board with you and Blake the whole way through but Dan you have to be 100 precent ready. She replied while her eyes welled up. " So the question is are you Daniel Ricciardo ready to get back racing" she finished. Daniel's eyes lit up and his smile grew wider " I'm so ready to get back racing" he enveloped the two into a massive hug.
Christian came walking over when he saw the group hugging he knew it could only be good news. "I take it Daniel informed you guys" he asked as the group broke apart. "He did" Blake and Evie replied unionsly. "So then Daniel is the answer yes" he asked once more. "Yes" Daniel replied. Evie didnt think Daniel's smile could grow and wider but it did. She had been worried about what a return to the sport could lead to badly but she knew deep down that it was her overthinking most of it she also knew that if things were to get thst bad again the three of the would be able to work it out and get out of it together. She was excited to see her husband racing again.

Let it snow
December 2020
Evie woke up that Tuesday morning earlier than daniel as per usual those last couple months during quarantine since she had to teach her class. Glancing out the window of their apartment they shared together she saw it was snowing. Usually when Evie saw snow she'd be over the moon happy it was her favourite but not this time she wasn't in the mood.
Pushing it aside even continued about her morning which consisted of feeding oreo and taking her medication in the hopes of preventing the flare up happening that she knew was coming and no amount pain meds would stop it. Though her only hope was to prolong it. She chose a simple breakfast that morning of just some yoghurt and fruit before she settled down infant of her computer for the day.
As daniel awoke and got up he to also noticed the weather he knew it should bring a smile to Evie's face. He walked into the kitchen with a pep in his step looking forward to seeing Evie. "Hey good sweetie how are you feeling" he asked her giving her a pack on the forhead. " yeh I'm okay just a little crampy. I'm done work for the day it was just a quick check with the kids" she smiled at him. In the 3 years Daniel has known Evie he was surprised she wasn't more happy over the idea of it snowing outside. Though then he also knew she had alot going on at the moment.
He walked over to the counter hopped onto it and he started to eat an apple. He figured he'd bring it into the conversation. "Sooo I see it's snowing outside you must be happy" he said to her in-between bites. She glanced at him and give him a small smile before mumbling "yeh I guess it's nice". That was it daniel knew the last few couple months had been hard on her not being able to see her family bit also she had been in alot of pain and suffering alot of flare ups since her endometriosis surgery's kept getting canceled due to covid. Daniel knew she wasn't doing good and I pained him to see her in pain. He knew he had to try and do something to atleast get her smiling for awhile.
That's when he jumped of the counter and grabbed Evie by the arm and dragged her over to their door. He didn't say anything and she was very confused. "Daniel what are you doing" she asked questionably as Daniel picked her hat gloves and scarf up and put them on her. Next was her jacket he zipped it up the whole way before taking a step back and looking at her. "You look beautiful my little squishy marshmallow" he said to her jokingly. Evie laughed back as daniel put on his winter gear too. "Come on" he said to her dragging her outside.
Daniel and Evie stood outside when he turned to her. "Look at this isn't it amazing its your favourite time of the year Evie. I want you to forget about everything for awhile and just enjoy this" he said to her seriously. "Okay I will" she replied as she bent down and formed a snowball in her hand. "Don't you dare THROW THAT AT ME EVIE" he shouted at her happily. She didn't listen and threw it at his arm. "Oh that's it your on" he replied also throwing one at her. "DANNY" she shouted. Next minute she just burst into a fit of laughter.
Daniel walked over to her smothering her in a hug. Evie continued to laugh along with Daniel. He gave her the best hugs it was one of her favourite this about him. Daniel was so happy the hear Evie laughing even if it was only for a short while he knew she needed this. She needed to be able to forget about her endometriosis and everything relating to covid at the moment. "So how about we go build a snowball danny" she said looking up to him. " I think that would be a very good idea." He replied before he got to pull away fully Evie pulled him back. "Thanks for this Dan I really needed it and thanks for always knowing what I need I know sometimes I can be a handful." She said to him "Hey your welcome and you know your never a handful to me all I care about is hearing you laugh. I love you" he replied. "I love you too. Now let's go make that snow man" Evie said enthusiasticly

Hello and welcome back to the simple life podcast my name is y/f/n and today we have y/n ricciardo with us. Firstly for those of you who don't know y/n has been my closest friend since highschool but also when i first started this podcast in 2020 if you have been listening since then the one person I've always been asked to have on is y/n and I finally managed to get her to come on y/f/n says laughing "you make it sound like I was avoiding coming on" y/n replied laughing. "Okay okay in all seriousness she's been itching to get on but she's never been in Perth long enough since covid the get the time but now she has plenty of time" y/ns friend replied back seriously
"So how have you been y/n" "I'm doing amazing lifes great at the moment it's slowed right down and we're just enjoying each moment as it comes I honestly feel like in the last couple of months we've been able to stop and take in the moment more. Also being back in perth has had its perks no doubt I love this place with everything I got"
"People will get mad if I don't ask this early on so how's daniel and baby Olivia doing" "Their both doing amazing olivias six months old and she's just loving life since we've been back in perth we take morning walks down to the beach as a family and her and daniel just love playing in the sand together. I love watching it because she's at the age where she's more in tune with what's going on and just seeing her and daniel interact is amazing"
"She's six months already it feels like just yesterday I was flying out to Monaco because you had gone into labour. Did she enjoy Christmas whats every day life like with a six month old " "Christmas in general was great we got to spend it with the whole family which we haven't been able to do since covid, Olivia was in her element opening her presents and I think she enjoyed it alot because her cousins were there so she had someone to play with. Yeh six months can you believe it myself and daniel are trying to soak everything in because she's growing to fast but I also like this stage because she's more aware of her surroundings too.
