Is Lourd De Veyra’s word of Lourd an example of contemporary arts? Why and Why not?

What do we mean by Contemporary Art? Contemporary art is, in most cases, defined as art that has been and continues to be created during our lifetime. It is the art of today, produced by artists who are living in the twenty-first century. Contemporary art provides an opportunity to reflect on contemporary society and the issues relevant to ourselves, and the world around us. Contemporary artists work in a globally influenced, culturally diverse, and technologically advancing world.

Different artists having different artworks come from time to time. Artworks that are very relevant to today’s issues and happenings. Artworks that are very interesting and enjoying. Arworks that can be a tool for gaining knowledge and ideas.  And these artworks that I am talking about are not just those paintings and sculptures that we see in the museums or in an exhibit. It can also be the spoken poetries and ofcourse, “The word of the lourd.” Yes, for us it is a contemporary art. Not only because it is produced by today’s artists but it is also a dynamic combination of materials, methods, concepts, and subjects that challenge traditional boundaries and the modern one. The word of the lourd by Lourd De Veyra is a piece or an example of a contemporary art. Why? Simply because it possess the characteristics of a contemporary art. First one is that it was made or created by an artist living today. It is also a wide ranging and most importantly, it is a reflection of current events and issues and public moods. And those word of the lourd by de veyra  presents influential issues to the community. In his works, he expresses his feelings towards what is happening in our country. The way we pronounce, the what we call “It’s more fun in the philippines”, The grammatically wrong and whatsoever. It also shows different negative qualities, lifestyles, and beliefs of people and unwanted happenings in the environments. Those videos that he created serves as an informational tool for everyone not just made for popularity. It was made with whole heart, created to open our eyes.

The word of the lourd is really a contemporary art because it talks about reflections on modern society and the issues relevant to people and the world around us. It shows us the present happenings in our society. Another essential feature of it is the fascination with which its artists used the modern technology.

The art made during this period celebrated experimentation and placed traditions of the past aside. Experimenting with different materials and ways of seeing art, the functionality of art developed with the move away from the narrative characteristic of the traditional arts, towards abstraction.Thisnewfound freedom and revolutionary way of relying on the inner visions and expression of such visions marks the biggest influence of Modern Art. This reflected not only the move towards non-figuration but also influenced the approach to real life, social issues and images of modern life.
