subahokke ramble but about the recent xday story that i managed to read with my minimal japanese skills + scuffed google translate

i can't believe they pulled the "they were each other's first friends" trope and now i'm wondering if subahokke falls under childhood friends category..........

the way they also now have nicknames for each other being hocchan and daikichi-kun...................

the way hokuto spent 10 years regretting how he couldn't do anything for his friend back in the 20th of december so he wrote xday on all of his calendars ever since....................

and now he managed to resolve that regret and they remembered that day and now they realize they managed to reunite in the future and now they're close and no wonder they have these weird moments that are just For Them and they have this innate connection with each other..............................

i love trickstar but before i was a fan of polystar i was first and foremost a subahokke/hokkesuba enjoyer and that story was very cool

also love the suba-papa part where hokuto's mom showed a video of him while they were on stage as a surprise ! cute reaction + mental image of hidaka seiya chasing around subaru's dad while subaru's dad is singing oughghghghgh love trickstar very much

episode 8 has finally dropped (3/3)

OH YEAH! REALLY! IS THAT SO! HE DIDN'T! BUT NOW HE DOES!

im so insane over this car conversation

his malewife senses couldn't handle seeing someone not taking care of themselves or their house so he took matters into his own hands

apartment also looks awfully unfurnished here since it was covered in garbage initially

i guess the decor was kazuki's pick including the exercise equipment!

ok no HOW the hell did he get rei to do this

how did he get this man to cooperate with him in giving him a bath and cutting his hair maybe also shaving his face

i am so insane. he trusted kazuki

he's not supposed to trust people but he trusted kazuki almost immediately because what the hell he's just getting dragged to do things and he isn't complaining

if it's a matter of kazuki ordering him and rei following because that's how he was taught to do then that train of thought is getting a little weak because he seems to genuinely not mind it at all

you already did. ever since you met, you did

ever since they took miri in, they changed because just from kazuki helping rei get his shit together and making the apartment just a bit more homey for the both of them it seems like something already changed from who they were prior to their meeting

he looks like he's never seen a birthday cake before

did they just. never celebrate rei's birthday before or was he just touched because of miri wanting to make him happy

both of them make me cry

it was only a matter of time until they found out about miri

and they know kazuki's partnered up with rei for the last three years

i mean it's not like kyutaro will have a hard time gathering intel on his own subordinates and the child he sometimes watches when they're off doing jobs, but considering the line from kyutaro in one of the PVs saying it's a warning from the organization, he might tell the kurusu-suwa-unasaka family about it

episode 8 has finally dropped (2/3)

(part 1) (part 3)

this post is focused on things that didn't get mentioned on the first part but still appeared on the episode

as always, spoilers under the cut

i didn't quite understand him coming back to the organization all of a sudden after three years initially, but thinking about it, kazuki might be correct because his boss was expecting rei to arrive

he's also much more snappy today but thankfully miri doesn't take it too personally and only tells him to come back home early because it's his birthday

miri and kazuki preparing a surprise birthday party for him is very endearing

still presently wondering how kazuki knows so much about rei's past or just the important details of it but rei doesn't seem to know about yuzuko's existence at all

did rei end up telling him about it, or did kyutaro tell him?

this implied rei did not know his manners beforehand and to be honest if this was another kazuki influence, god bless him

i spoke too soon and it seems that yes it is a kazuki influence thing

and then rei's boss proceeds to dunk on kazuki's entire existence like an asian parent to their daughter's possible love interest

he doesn't say anything, but his eyes narrow

well, he isn't wrong! he is kind of the reason for the mistakes, especially after taking miri in, so it's not wrong to agree

does this mean rei's the only one who grows stubble or is it both of them...................

in all seriousness, there's a visible difference to this rei and current rei and let's all take a moment to thank kurusu kazuki for helping this man because he would've keeled over if left unattended

implying that he doesn't want rei to leave hmmmmmm kinda queer but alright ill let it slide

he's apologizing so much that it's making me just a bit more curious if there will be more happenings in future episodes

no i don't think so as well

but kazuki will, definitely, as well as miri. unfortunately never his boss

another case of sometimes children notice things that adults don't

they can be quite perceptive! it's just impressive to see in miri after seeing her be rambunctious and over the top

i guess despite that, in a way, her past did have an effect on her and she grew up a bit too fast, just a little

on a lighter note, his favorite food !! thats so cute

but he can't even take spice why are there spice bottles on the table

god. god. this family would never have existed if it weren't for kazuki i swear

maybe not but also he has so much influence in the entire scheme of things from the way i see it

oh yeah? like what? your wife and kid?

i swear im never getting over that scene of rei cutting his boss off to say kazuki had nothing to do with tainting the bloodline or whatever his boss said, that's too precious

i guess now that his target had something he could relate to, it's hard not to waver

it's endearing to see how quickly he gets swept up in kazuki's pace

does this mean kazuki was the one to introduce rei to games? or has rei already been introduced to games before setting up rei's phone

... is the true tech boomer of this family actually the gamer man? because kazuki is practically required to know how to work a device since his work revolves more around info gathering...

episode 8 has finally dropped (1/3)

its time !!!! ill be referencing this post quite a lot since it's my prediction post

(part 2 for things that weren't mentioned here) (part 3 for more things that weren't mentioned)

everything under the cut for spoiler avoiders!

THE TIME HAS COME. and i'm extremely giddy despite sobbing my eyes out for today's episode

let's debunk or confirm the things that i said/predicted when the trailer dropped

kazuki and miri are preparing but i'm still not sure if they're preparing for rei's birthday because putting kazurei's conversation aside, it should be related to the episode still like the previous trailer for episode 7

since miri's zoo trip is over and the rainy season was shown in episode 7, and kazurei talked about the summer weather, i can only guess that it really is gonna be a rei birthday thing because no way is it miri's birthday bc hers is in november, and her acquisition was in christmas eve

rei bday might be somewhere between june to september

i will cry if i get this correct

I WAS CORRECT. I CALLED IT!!!! the episode is set in the summer, august (specific date is august 10th)

you can hear extremely loud cicadas, and this ties in pretty well with kazurei's conversation about summer during the trailer!

not only that, today (in the anime) is rei's birthday and that IS what miri and kazuki are preparing for

now we have all of their birthdays........... wow

the suwa manor i assume??

yes it's the suwa manor. we could see similar architecture on the outside compared to episode 3's flashback scene

a little bit of benefit of the doubt for those windows because it has been some time since episode 3's flashback to current timeline

this implies that despite kyutaro once looking at rei saying he knows the consequences of betraying the organization the most, he is in contact with his boss (father)

unfortunately, despite that line, he didn't betray the organization. he also wasn't in contact with his boss the entire time he was gone

did he have an escape attempt once? is this episode going to elaborate on that? this seems more of a rei backstory episode after kazuki's backstory episode

the episode does end up elaborating! though he never had an escape attempt. his boss was fully aware of him leaving the manor for elsewhere and made an oath to return

if kazuki's wife died five years ago and rei left the suwa manor (and by extension, the organization) three years ago, that means there's a two year gap between them meeting... curious as to what happened during then

im willing to bet kazuki's the one who did her hairstyle because i feel like rei would just accidentally tug on her hair every few seconds but i might be proven wrong or they never show us

THEY DIDNT SHOW !!! but it's definitely kazuki because rei's outside of the house, small win

favorite child and unfavorite child face off? they have similar facial structures and hair strand placement the color contrasts is screeching into my face as well

absolutely nothing like that !!!! a little sad to report that,

this man wasn't rei's sibling, but rather, rei's mentor who taught him how to use weaponry for assassination

now why is this man here

he's here as rei's uber driver and someone who shares things without being asked for it /LH

he also asked for kaji's last words but we'll get into that a bit later or maybe in a part 2

i really do wonder what sort of conversation they're having in the midst of a gunfight inside a ship maybe the organization found out about miri and them taking in miri?

they were talking about rei leaving the organization, a little bit of their history, complete with a debate between someone who follows the organization's rules to the letter and someone who strayed from the path for something they wanted to protect

this definitely resonates with rei because

he never tells ogino the last words he saw kaji mouthing while he fell to his death despite knowing what they are

he also found two someones to protect (i'll never forget this scene where his voice sounded really panicked)

NOW WHAT IS THIS !!!! HELLO !!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT HAPPENED LITTLE CRINGEMAN he's showing too much emotion so i'm convinced that there was a threat made to miri and kazuki by favorite poster suwa child

WE FINALLY GET CONFIRMATION! this face was due to this scene right here

he seemed startled at how accepting his mentor was at dying when his wife? girlfriend? fiance? died

it didn't even look like he wanted to drop the guy off the balcony on purpose because why would he run over to try and catch him somehow

and for the last part of the prediction post that i want to tackle,

hopefully rei does get back home safe and sound even if he gets a wound or two, manifesting!!

he does come back home! thankfully.

he only has one wound on his arm that he hopefully did take care of when he finished eating some of the birthday food laid out on the table for him

now onto things that weren't tackled on my prediction post, but in a part 2 to have some form of organization :DD

guess who's back for another prediction.

ok first off before i put the cut, i just think rei's english is so pleasant to the ears that's all

okay spoiler territory time

(edited a little to add in a little something)

it seems we're finally at that point of PV 2 and 3 where they started planning and preparing a birthday !

but first let me just cry about how cute the conversation between kazuki and rei are before i get into the topic of the scenes playing in the trailer

(don't trust my translation 100% i am only going off of how i understand it with limited knowledge)

Rei: Because Miri came, I started to feel the seasons. Kazuki: That's true∼ Rei: And I thought summer was just hot. Kazuki: You do become more of a hikikomori when the summer comes... Rei: Summer was just limited to coolers, but... Kazuki: But? Rei: There were... also days where I thought the sunlight was nice

also this

Rei: It's the first time that I've ever thought that I liked this weather Kazuki: Barbecuing on tiles sounds good too Rei: I'll have to refuse. Kazuki: Eeh?

i love how rei's a little more talkative and especially about his likes and dislikes when it comes to summer

we never see this man with any kind of scratch or wound from episodes 1 to 7 during gunfights, but we see him a little roughed up in this scene for once which really screams this man might be nearly superhuman but he is not Immune to physical damage (nor is he immune to psychological warfare)

this episode has me hyped because it seems like a tenser vibe compared to kazuki's more melancholy confrontation with his past which he ends up coming to terms with

hopefully rei does get back home safe and sound even if he gets a wound or two, manifesting!!

episode 7 thoughts dump (part 2/2)

(part 1)

everything under the cut again for spoilers sake

continuing on from the previous post,

he’s at kyutaro’s doorstep! a last resort because he has literally no clue on how to deal with a sick child and this makes me think if this man has ever gotten sick in his life

in the end, all goes well because kyutaro got him the help he needs to get miri onto the road to recovery

and we get this adorable shot of rei sleeping on miri’s bedside holding her hand while she rests <:)

now onto kazuki’s side of the story :’)

he narrowly saves her from the isekai truck-kun by having enough sense to pull her back when she tries to chase it down to the road

which in turn, reminds him of his late wife’s own umbrella when she died

he proceeds to act normal because miri doesn’t know what happened, and i don’t think she really should at that age

skipping over the scenes showing rei not really helping kazuki out as much and kazuki blowing up at the kitchen table because it’s mentioned in part 1, we get a scene of kazuki at yadogiri

it’s a bit drastic to run off and go on a strike, but it does do its job! considering that both rei and miri are a little. is clueless the correct term?? at least when it comes to kazuki’s efforts

this strike also gives him the chance to finally talk things out with his late wife’s sister who we now know to be karin (who is REALLY pretty by the way) who doesn’t seem to be mad nor does she blame kazuki for the death of her older sister!

she’s only really angry because he keeps running away instead of facing this part of his past

and despite kazuki saying this,

she doesn’t really seem to be angry at him at all when she finds him later at the hydrangea field that her sister likes going to and where kazuki met yuzuko for the first time

i think it’s real neat! he gets some sort of closure for this thing that he’s been beating himself up over for five years (although we still don’t know when he met rei and when he started crashing in his apartment in those five years)

we also get to know that that day is yuzuko’s death anniversary and that kazuki went off to visit

thinking back on the rest of the episode, rei must probably not know about this because he makes zero comments

their “I won’t ask” and “I wouldn’t tell” dynamic really does mean they have no idea who each other are before their partnership huh........

we finally see him open up for once about how he’s scared of change, of forgetting his contribution to yuzuko’s death, of being fulfilled by somebody else, and of forgetting yuzuko

doubt he’d ever tell rei about this but it’s nice to know that he has karin, yuzuko’s last living family member, to talk with about this topic

and she has a point! he doesn’t have to keep himself chained down by that unfortunate event and glad to see that he does end up taking this to heart

NOW!!! ON THE NEXT TOPIC... the accident.

in a flashback sequence, we see kazuki on his own (must be pre-rei partnership era) chasing a hooded guy down the alleyway and shooting at him

once his target takes a right turn, he hijacks a car to speed off and throw kazuki off of his tail

of course, kazuki gives chase and we get a shot of the car from a different perspective through a scope with ogino ryo behind the trigger

whether this means that kazuki is partnered up with ogino during this mission is unknown, but i could theorize that they are paired up and kyutaro knows about his hand in killing yuzuko because kyutaro is just that omniscient

he shoots the tire which ends up making the car swerve off to hit the oil truck situated coincidentally right next to yuzuko standing at the other side of the crosswalk

kazuki couldn’t shout a warning in time before the car and truck blows up, leading to yuzuko being caught up in the explosion and dying

the flashback ends with this shot of yuzuko’s umbrella which has the hydrangeas on them

and since i already like. practically just retold the entire episode with only morsels of my thoughts on it, let’s end this two part post with this lovely scene before the end credits!

after both of the storylines in this episode got resolved, kazuki finally comes back home to a mess in the living room, but doesn’t seem to be too mad since it’s expected considering rei

he looks for rei and miri because no one was answering him, and finds them fast asleep in miri’s room

i’m still amazed at how rei, someone who’s usually on guard considering his line of work, doesn’t even stir when kazuki or miri go into the room he’s resting in

this could either be massive trust, or he’s just really tired. i hope it’s the first one

this smile has my heart in a vice grip because it really shows that he can see rei doing his best for their daughter even if he can’t do it perfectly (not like he does either but the point stands)

AND REI FINALLY COOKS FOR ONCE!!!!!! IN KAZUKI’S APRON!!!!!!!!! this is so monumental

it ends up being shit but the effort is there and i am HERE for it

he finally gets some of his problems resolved and is ready to go back to taking care of miri alongside rei who should, if this episode is actually implying this, start helping kazuki more around the house instead of tuning him out or relying on him entirely

we end this episode with a lovely shot of kazuki’s monitors with the photograph in his drawer being taped to one of them!

will miri and rei ask about it in the future when they get dragged into kazuki’s bed for another sleepover? i can already smell the fanfiction from here

episode 7 thoughts dump (part 1/2)

(this will be referencing this post of mine and this one too)

(part 2 because this is getting too long)

ok so putting things under a cut again bc spoilers obviously <333

(edited a bit because damn i wrote this on a whim)

OK SO ! most of my predictions are. somewhat correct, if not just misplaced in the wrong areas of the episode

the episode IS centered around rei having to realize that kazuki's role in the house is difficult because he has to take care of so much (laundry, cooking, getting miri ready early and sent off to daycare) so i wasn't wrong about that

this conversation is very nice to listen to as well because the thing of kazuki taking care of almost everything if not everything in the house is finally addressed! and they talk about it! somewhat. to mixed results

and he is doing his best my god he is doing his best you're doing so great you cringefail of a man (/pos) but i'm glad that this episode pushed him to a point where he just realizes he has to help kazuki more

this minute pause spoke to me so much because he was about to yell at her but stopped himself before he could..... amazing little detail

OK. NOW. THE SCENE THAT SPAWNED THIS ENTIRE POST. there must've been some kind of falling out between rei + miri and kazuki because he was screaming "I'm... not your housekeeper!" during dinner i'm suspecting that they finally got on his nerves if they never pick up after themselves properly or just the small stuff piled up onto kazuki and he had enough despite usually not really minding the fact that he has to do most if not all of the house chores but another theory i have is that the scene with the photograph is connected and because of the stress, it leads up to him taking it out on rei and miri. i'm distraught i don't want to see this episode but i have to. mfs gonna have a sk8 episode 7 situation and i'm powerless to stop it

recalling this from the second linked post, they do have some kind of falling out!!! and it does refer to the fact that they don't pick up after themselves!!! (and that they don't try to make it easier for kazuki himself)

the other theory is wrong because the thing with his wife doesn't really come up until karin's in the picture ok no i worded that incorrectly, thank you person who replied under the post

the scene is connected! but it did start off from the start of the episode itself, and his the stress that leads up to him going on strike is just from rei and miri not appreciating what he does enough..... poor unappreciated malewife

but yeah they did end up having a sk8 episode 7 but without them actually arguing in person, kazuki just dipped and left early in the morning

he really said he's not going to be coming back home for a while and they can fend for themselves

and kazuki seems to be on a solo mission, which is probably something rei and miri knows about considering they dont look too panicked by kazuki’s absence (rei looks a little frazzled from the daunting housework chores he has to deal with)

(episode 7 trailer post) ok so the solo part is wrong, but now we do know that rei and miri know that kazuki's out of the house and rei is frazzled by the housework

the day of reckoning has arrived for one suwa rei frfr..... it only took one whole day without kazuki doing things for him to realize

kazuki was nice enough to leave notes around for him so he doesn't get TOO lost trying to prepare miri

this means that since they got miri, he hasn't been going out to fool around in the night life and is at home taking care of miri and rei..... interesting

onto the more meatier part of the episode, THE TRAUMA !!! ill go back to the fluff when we're done here <3333 let's start with rei's since it's the tamer part and since we're on the topic of rei having to experience what it's like to be the sole caretaker of the house for once

he cant cook and doesn't know which plate in the fridge is for eating

this reminds me of the very first episode where kazuki tells rei that he left food in the fridge for him that he didn't eat because it was cold

maybe because kazuki papa wants you two to have a balanced meal !!!! also the laundry left out on the couch.... did kazuki just never fold it?

he does not know her schedule At All (to be fair, so does she in some way but the point stands)

but he does have a calendar that he did not check before leaving probably out of panic

time to nitpick a little at rei's choices with good intentions (he's doing his best but these are Not It fr)

why is miri being exposed to the rain like this!!! should've taken the car i feel like because this right here

is what leads to this

poor miri got sick and rei doesn't know what to do so he immediately calls kazuki who doesn't pick up

so he thinks of an alternative,

but the medicine isn't allowed for anybody below 12 so he thinks of another alternative,

but he doesn't know where the hospital is!!! so he ends up in kyutaro's doorstep as a last resort....
