This is a fanblog run by two people; Pixar's Coco has ruined both their lives. This blog's centered around a relationship between Imelda, Hector, and Ernesto. A lotta fluff with some NSFW stuff.
“Why so silent, good monsieurs?
Did you think that I had left you for good?”
that ask @upperstories got a while back still haunts and vexes me at night.
his outfit is a frankenstein-ing of his normal look, the broadway version, and the movie. and as for the classic mask…i’d imagine if you got crushed by a bell some of your parts might not be all the way back to normal ;) (i’ll probably share some sketches of that at some point cause im way too weak for a good ol’ crossover.)
One interesting thing about Coco that I think a lot of people missed, is that Ernesto de la Cruz actually had talent.
Like, I see a lot of posts referring to him as a hack and it’s just not true. Sure, the man didn’t write his own songs, but he did play and sing them extremely well. Oh, and he starred in several films and (though, admittedly, you’ll have to take his less than trustworthy word on this) did his own stunts. Oh, and the infamous ‘poison’ scene shows that he must have had a hand in writing at least one of his films.
Okay, yeah, his popularity as a singer was largely linked to the songs Héctor wrote, and that’s probably what got him the chance to make movies, but still— he had the talent. There’s a chance that he could have just let Héctor go home and keep his songs and then still have gone on to become as famous as he did.
After all, there must have been somebody back in 1920s Mexico willing to hire a singer/guitarist/actor/stuntman/scriptwright.
When you think about it, Ernesto as a villain is less motivated by lack of talent and more by insecurity.
Take the murder of Héctor as an example. It’s actually pretty unecessary— Ernesto could have just gone back to playing classics like La Llorona, or even hired another composer, but no. In his mind, despite the many natural abilities he clearly has, Ernesto feels he is nothing without Héctor’s support. He even goes so far as to steal Héctor’s guitar— suggesting that he didn’t feel like his own would be good enough.
Or how about his attempted murder of Miguel, motivated by the fear that people back in the Land of the Living are seriously going to believe a twelve year old boy when he says that he just came back from the Land of the Dead, where he learned that the beloved Ernesto de la Cruz is a liar. Remember, at this point, Ernesto has no way of knowing that there’s any other evidence to back up Miguel’s claim. Sure, he might know about Héctor’s letters, but he probably doesn’t realise that they contain proof of who wrote the songs, and he’d have probably assumed that any evidence like that would have come out during his lifetime anyway. But still the guy’s so insecure that he seems to seriously believe that his very solid fanbase would all be swayed by the words of a child.
The irony of this is that, if he had just tried to sent Miguel home with Héctor’s photo the moment he asked, the argument that lead to Héctor realising he had been murdered would never have happened. They would have discovered that Miguel wasn’t actually related to Ernesto, Miguel might well have mentioned Imelda at some point and Héctor would have realised the connection and been able to send him home. The most he would have been able to say was that Ernesto hadn’t written his songs, and since he didn’t know that Héctor was in danger of being forgotten, it wouldn’t have occured to him to sing his song to Mama Coco.
Miguel would have gone home, Héctor could have crossed the bridge before being forgotten forever and all of Ernesto’s problems would have solved themselves. It was Ernesto’s own insecurity that actually brought about his downfall.

hugs for Mamá Imelda and….lots of love for Papá Héctor XD I mean he’s a skeleton, he can’t weigh that much
I’ve had a little bit of time between animating projects…so more doodles for Coco once again because I just had to
I was trying to track down screenshots of Miguel’s elusive forehead markings, after I thought I’d finally seen them in a gif. I didn’t even know if they were really there or not until I got a hold of an HD source, but they are! They’re just really faint and hard to see under his bangs (and easily mistakable for shadow if you don’t know what to look for). So I guess all the merch I have where I’ve seen him with them are accurate after all!
(This’ll also be a handy detail to know for any Miguel cosplayers)
These were the best examples I managed to get, and he was pulling goofy faces in most of them which made it all the more amusing.
I was talking about this in Discord, and someone else pointed out another rather…interesting detail: [X]
