Just a thought that made me smile... regarding the Eremika/Jeankasa dichotomy

Eren taught Mikasa how to fight. How to survive in a cruel world. 

Jean is likely who teaches Mikasa how to be at peace. 

Eren gave Mikasa the freedom not to fight. The freedom to live a normal life. 

Jean, who deep down always wanted that freedom, gets to help Mikasa appreciate it. 

It’s pretty warm, if you let it be.

This resonates so well with me, as someone who legitimately adores both ships. Thank you for this beautiful write up.

I wanted to apologise to the anon who sent me the Titanic ask I kinda lashed out I was getting really pissed with all the takes I keep seeing in the fandom. I love Titanic, I think it’s beautiful what Jack and Rose shared but to me they’re not like star crossed lovers who were meant to be. To me the beauty of their relationship lies in the way it touched Rose’s life in that brief period. But in terms of a lasting love, they don’t have much weight to me. I’m not sure I believe in soulmates but I do believe her husband was always meant to be that person for her and not Jack. With JeanKasa I might be biased because I’m a shipper but with Rose and her husband I’m not, like I don’t even know who this guy was lol. But I know they shared a lasting relationship and not Rose and Jack. And that’s fine. Relationships (or anything) can matter in ways other than lasting forever. We have this weird tendency where we think for anything to be meaningful it must last forever. But that’s not true. Sometimes a moment’s encounter can change your life forever. I’m sure Rose had moments in her life when she must have been at a low point and Jack’s memory gave her the drive to keep going. Similar to how in chapter 139 Mikasa feels low and then the bird comes and wraps the scarf around her and she is reminded of Eren and is able to stand up and smile again. And I’m sure Mikasa had more moments like this in her long life. It was Eren who showed her beauty in the cruel world, not Jean. It was Jack who showed Rose how to live, not her husband. So it’s not something they can get from their husbands. It’ll always be Jack and Eren, who live in their hearts even though they’re no longer in this world. Just because the person is gone doesn’t mean what they shared with you is gone too. That’s not how it works. I saw a tweet a while back and there was a line: no love, however brief, is ever wasted. And I think that’s one of the most beautiful lines I’ve ever read in my life. A love, of any type, doesn’t have to last forever for it to have meaning. It can last two days and it will come back to you when you need it and give you its warmth. A warmth only it can give you. 

In my life, there are people I’ve let go. I genuinely feel very uncomfortable if I have to see them again. But it does not take away from the fact that I’ve shared some of the best moments of my life with them. And I still recall those memories during certain times and they give me immense happiness. But I also know it’s over and the way I am now, the way they are now, we can’t have what we had back then. But what we had was beautiful and it will remain some of my most treasured memories all my life.

I hope this clears up my views on Jack and Rose and EreMika. I think they’re utterly beautiful, but not in terms of a romantic relationship, it’s the way the boys enabled the girls to live their lives. The life Rose shared with her husband, the life Mikasa shared with Jean, they won’t be able to do it had they not met Jack and Eren. But speaking in terms of romantic relationship itself, their relationships with their husbands will always have more meaning to me.
