Drew this up for comedian Sureni Weerasekera for her NYCF show. She gave me full license to go weird and borderline grotesque, wanted something similar to my The Story Must Be Told poster. For motifs, she wanted curry leaves, an old Buddhist temple step (the half circle at the top) and a yakka demon mask from Sinhalese folklore. I said YES. It was a dang delight and I’m pretty thrilled with how it came out.

It’s really nice when someone asks you to do what you enjoy doing already. My friend Dean liked the style of my recent work, wanted something in the same vein. It’s a fun challenge to stretch outside your comfort, but it’s also a treat to just do the stuff that’s been motivating you.

Had a very dry couple months in terms of work, and got a random influx of a few commissions that really scratch all my art itches. Excited to share the next few.

The author is a wildland firefighter himself, and has written a bunch of comics from different vantages within the job, lil reflections on the the mental toll and ptsd and physical damage of the job. May the Story spread Its grease upon you!

So I binged every episode of The Story Must Be Told podcast in less than a week and I think my brain chemistry actually changed.

It’s vaguely like nightvale in that it is a bunch of weird ass fiction, except there is no connection to anything besides THE STORY. it actively does not give a fuck about it’s R rating, and is approximately 500x grosser. So more like John Dies at the End actually. But less cohearant. The first episode comes out swinging like the first episode of Black Mirror. The first few episodes hit that “grosser is funnier” really really hard but it levels out to an enjoyable amount after 3 or 4.

10/10 I can’t stop saying “uh huh” and “grubby bubby” or “greasy”. I’ve been to church less times than I can count on my hands but this seems spot on. Gnnngnhhg THE STORY
