FAS3003: Signiture Project
In these Project I will attempt to create a concept Narrative inspired by something I am interested in, where I will develop on my blog and on a A3 sketchbook showing my process and ideas followed with research. This project also gives me the change to show off range of skills that I have and play with concepsts and ideas.
Here I have to create a final garment or accessory inspired by my theme.
For my Concept I had the Idea to focous on the country that I was born and grew up in, which is Portugal I decided to focous on the symbol of Portugal that is a rooster 馃悡 which is considered the symbol of Portugal, because it is traditionally accociated with positive things for Portuguese people it means faithf, honesty and unity. It is said to be the embodiment of Portuguese people.
The Legend of the rooster and story behind happened when an impoverished peligrim had been passing through Barcelos in order to fulfill a promise he made during piligrimage to santiago the compostela. The Piligrim was accused of a murder that has happened and sentenced to death by hanging, where the actual criminal hasn't been proven. The authorities just decided to prisoner him just because he seemed suspicious.
The man asked to be taken in the presence of the judge after he was accepted he confronted the judge and tried to explain his innocence.
He didn't convince the judge so he pointed at the rooster that was baked on the take next to him and exclaimed, 'Is so right that I am inocent as that rooster will sing when I'll be hanged.'
The judge Ignored whtat he said, but when they were just about to take his life the rooster stoop up on the table and actually started to sing.
Then the judge saw what had happened and went straight to the peligrim and saw that the knot wasn't well made and that he was saved thanks to it and that he was truly innocent, so he let him go freely. Then after some time the Rooster was made and the case was closed.

This week I was intruduced to 3D making on the stand using Pattern paper and making tape. Where I created shapped and a design inspired by my concept idea.
This design was inspired by a The International symbol of Portugal which is a rooter and also a real life rooter which is where I got those type of feathers seen in the pictures above.
For these outcome I had no idea what to create, but slowly trying bits by bits came together that created an interesting look in my opinion. However this was supposed to be bigger with more volume and aspeck wich shouldn't look like a garment, but more like art sometimes 3D. In one hand I love it as it cloud be a nice idea for many designs that I cloud use as my final outcome. On the other hand I regret not playing more with this activity and have created more samples and ideas based on this initial idea.
I first started by with the Rooter shape then with the top and then with the feathers.

This week I worked on my sketchbook book where I developed some pages inspired by my narrative showing some of my ideas using mark making. Collage, paint and continuous line drwaing technique.
The Rooster of Portugal design
This is actually the Original shape design of the Rooster symbol of Portugal, but not the exact pattern made. This is just inspired by the original. I truly love the colours and how elegant this drwaing looks. Looking at this drwaing reminds me of my childhood even though it doesn't seem very interesting to some for me even a real life rooter reminds me of Portugal as I would hear them sing in the Morning and wake up almost everyday with that sound of a rooter singing and me having to prepare for school. This drwaing would be seen quite often in Portugal in diverse places like cafes and traditional clothes shops, towls, kitchen tools serving cups for coffe and more.
This painting was inspired by the features of a Real Rooster where I tried to create a big feather joing more colours of each part of the rooster but not particularly the exact same colours. I choose to add blue just to expirience how it would look as this colours as nothing relatable with a rooster, however I think that adding blue made the paint more interesting and vibrant.
This is my is my favourite drwaing of my sketchbook even though its just black and white because I like that is messy and tidy at the same time as I used continues line drwaing and the maked harder in some places to make it more Attractive to the eyes. This would look nice Embroidared on a white dress with interesting shapes really big.

Personal Brief of the Signiture Project
MEMORIES FROM THE ROSSTER
My idea is inspired by the by the national symbol of Portugal witch is a Rooster. Portugal is the country where I was born and raised. I chose to focus on the Rooster, because of it's history and all the memories this animal brings to me. Every time around my are you would hear a rooter sing. Sometimes I wouldn't even need an alarm to wake up. The Rooster statue was first released in Barcelos the original city of Portugal, where the Rooster became the idea of becoming the national animal of Portugal to represent the country, Like in Egland where the national animal is a Lion. This is actually very deep to me as every time I talk or see a Rooster, it directly flashes memories of my childhood. I would see prints of the rooster on many things like: plates, forks and others, kitchen towls, walls on the roads, statues in shops for tourists, prints of it in coofee shops and on my grandmother's house and her avantal, which reminds me of her food especially her warm and delicious crunchy tradional break called Broa.
My aim for this project is to develop own skills and expand my ideas based on a narrative, where I am further supposed to progress. Along with research, samples and followed with a sketchbook and blog where, I'll show all my ideas and explanations of my final outcome which will be a garment, In my case it will be a Top more like a showpiece with a 3D texture.
My aim and vision on this project is to create my garment similar to my design, where I can inspire something to the viewers and get to discover myself and to challenge my skills and create something that could be more like art piece more than just a wearable garment. My aim is to create something that can remind or discover people this beautiful country Portugal and hope it will create curiosity on their minds. My inspiration came from Portugal and it's national symbol all shapes and colours of my final piece was inspired by a rooster. I choose it because I thought it's unusual as it might not have been seen before. All my designs and ideas were inspired by the rooster of Portugal.
For some people it might just be a rooster, but for me is a beautiful memory of my childhood both good and bad days, which reminds me of the amazing Portugal, where people are very simple, helpful with good thoughts and intentions.
I can't explain the warmth you feel in this country not because of the weather, but because of the people, the food, the fresh air and not to forget the nature and historical places. You have to live or visit to feel that deep happiness and piece that Portugal gives you. The rooster might not be that beautiful for some people but for me is a majestic animal, just like the country and it's people.
I am planning to achieve all my ideas by starting with research, drawings, designs, samples and devoloping my blog as not to loose my ideas and steps as I go along this project I will research pictures of Portugal, designers anything that can help me develop and get inspire my final design and five that 3D look that I want. I am planning to develop ideas on my sketchbook and focous on the shapes that I want my rooster to be and I'll play with drwaing roosters in different ways. Then I'll try qnd create a 3D sample of a rooster and try prints on it as well maybe with paint, embroidary or appliqu茅. I'll demonstrate my work on my A3 sketchbook and blog hopefully I will have a good outcome, in anyways I'll try my best.

The this week of this I focoused on creating the pattern of my garment, Which is going to be a vest and another two pieces the 3D roster and 3D fearher.
This idea of pattern and final design was inspired by the rooster collage done in my sketchbook seen at the top. Where I decided to try and create it similar, however for the feather I am planing to choose more vibrant colours that won't particularly be the original colour of the rooter feather, but the Portugal's flag wich is green, yellow and red, also I feel like adding a shade of blue aswell but not a light shade of blue.
I love the colours and shape, could've been sewn better, however this was my first time using or ganza and bagging out was a bit hard, but over all I am am satisfied that it looks like the design and pattern I made.
Here I decided to add some shape to the front pattern as I thought it would give a more original look more than justa simple vest. I place some paper by pining it down and the with the pencil I tried to drwa the shapes following the seams on the side of the vest. Aftee that I traced ot again clean and added 1cm seam allowence and it up. I think the vest pattern came out perfect as I added drats as well to make it fited.
This is the final look of my patterns front, back that I forgot to photograph and thr 3D rooster and feather.

Final look of my Garment
I am very happy with the outcome of my garment and I think it does look like the pattern so I suppose It was sewn well, however could've been done better and here I mean the feather part. Could've gave a more natural look and volume, but overall I thing it looks pretty good.
I loved this Module even though I've missed a bit of the days where I could've used it to make more samples and try different things. However I got days where I tried to do my best. This module did gave me the opportunity to xhallege myself and discover ideas, which again could've been done better. After all It was a beneficial module as a fashion designer as now I can understand better the importance of time management the importance of research on time as you go along with the project and the importancce of trying more than one idea and dvelop it better. Now I got the idea and Expirience when creating a garment based on a concept. I hope next time i do it better, but I am not sad at all with the outcome of my garment, but I am sad s my research is a failure and that I do need to practice more on it and actually learn how to reference and look for inspiration from desgners. Here I just focoused on my memory of the Rooster from Portugal and all it's beautiful peopel and traditions that I could've included in my blog.

This week I foucused on the pattern making of my garment where I did a top.
Here I tr膬sese the pattern and then added on the front pattern shapes to make the garment more unique and give qn interesting volume to it. I place some paper by pining it and the with a pencil, I drew the shapes I wanted, then traced the front pattern again with the shapes I did.
After creating the front pattern I made a rooster shape from paper and created the feather format on paper and pined it down on the mannequin. I decided to add more layers of feathers to give more volume and make it more 3D looking. As for the rooters is going to be done with the same fabric as the vest top and also 3D.
I do love how my patterns turned out, hopefully it will look nice together, when I'll buy the fabric, which I think it might be denim as I want it to be with a more thick fabric.

Embroidary workshop week 8
This is a quick sample that I made for my final board, using disolvable fabric.
I am in love with this sample, because of how abstract it looks and the contrast between the threads and how it is connected to each other. These sample was a recreating of the building inspired by the building up, placed in Birmingham around Chinatown. I choose this because I love the pattern on it and thought it would fit perfectly as a sample of the building. To do this I just put the transparent disolvable fabric on the embroidary hoop and sew it freely and this time i choosd not to draw before with a fine linear and just do it directly to practice. As the final sample done for this project I can say that it is my favourite and most enjoyable sampe.

Final Evaluation of these project
These was a project where I had the opportunity to be intruduced to weaving, witch at first I thought it would take months to master, however very surprisingly I started to love it after my second lesson. Here I have learned how the machine works and all the different techniques used in weaving. To be honest my favourite is plain weaving not because it's easy and fast, but relaxing and beautiful. I loved playing with different threads, what I regret is not using other techniques and other materials like platic strips or fabric strips to try and recycled and include sustainability in my samples, not just and weaving but throughout the hole project and workshops.
Printing is another interesting and fun workshop that I enjoyed. Here I learned digital printing and screen printing, where I have done some samples, however I am disappointed that I didn't use this workshop better and create more interesting samples where one of them I have lost it witch was my first screen sample and only. This is where i regret not recreating it again and even better improve it by adding beading and embroidery onto it. On the other hand I am pleased with the digital prints, but at the same time could've been more creative.
The embroidary workshop was defenetly my best as Iove my samples and found this workshop very relaxing and enjoyable . Here I have learned appliqu猫 reverse appliqu猫, pleats, pintuck, using disolvable fabric and different techniques between those. What I would've done to improve was try pleats samples, witch I haven鈥檛 done sadly.
The sketchbook workshop was the most creative lesson as I had to layout my samples and the hole book. I love my final outcome of my sketchbook and I think that as you open you can clearly tell and see the idea I had for this project witch was skyline and building mix. To improve my sketchbook I would've created a page that's about myself and show a bit of my personality using the workshop, however as you look at this book you can make many personality ideas about me, witch could be different depending each person.
For this project I was also supposed to create a blog content incorporating my samples, concept and sketchbook pages. To be honest at first I found it to be fun and interesting, as the days were going by I started to slitly dislike it for the fact that I struggled applying secondafy research, because I am a person who usually gets inspored by things around and I consider myself a creative person with own ideas. However I like to look at other artists, photographers and designers as it part of getting more creative inspired and open minded in fashion. What I regret is not finding more secondary research to compare my work and samples to in that way it would've been perfect.
Another thing is that I am not so happy about the reference page, that I admit I did it last "seconds". However as a hole I found these project interesting, helpful and different witch I am happy that I learned something new. If I had to do this again I would've defenetly be more free with it at relaxed and more organised.
This is my final outcome of my board, where I have created my narrative which is about skyline and building mix. I absolutely love these page I think you can tell my narrative just by looking at the weaving sample, embroidary sample and my design. This design was actually planed to come out 3D and actually crearte it, however I really didn't have enough time to do it so I decided to add it.
I love the cloud effect using cotton as I added some 3D texture and volume to the board, it might look childish for others, but for me it's just my style. The contrast between each piece of these board especially the cotton with the picture and my idea of concept as an overall makes it look very interesting and clear to understan. In my opinion I think that there is no need to add or replace anything in these board as I am very proud and satisfied with it, but at the same time there is always place for begter.

Week 6 Embroidary workshop
This day I learned about disolvable fabric and how it is used, where I have done some samples
Here I have done a sample at the embroidary workshop inspired by the library building in Birmingham using freehand embroidary foot using disolvable fabric. Frist I put the sheet on the embroidary hoop, then embroider on it using zigzag stiches and straight stiches conecting each thread so after washing in warm water it stay everything together. I like the final outcome however I wish I had done a bigger sample.I choose to do this sample because it looks very geometric and because I liked the pattern of the building and wanted to it using embroidary.

Week 6 Weaving workshop
These week at the weaving workshop I have done a sample inspired by a suncet picture.
Here I have used similar thread as the sky, where I have cut the photo into strips and tried to mix it with weaving. For these sample I have use zigzag twirling technique and plain weave. I love the contrast between each color thread and the picture and the white thread that connects everything together. I think that it relates to my concept as I used the sky in for these sample that takes you into many fantasy. I would improve this sample by improving my weaving skills and do it again and also maybe make more layers of thread.
