Hello! I don't know if you're still active on this blog, but you asked about recommendations for summer movies with a melancholic air, and while I don't have many to offer myself, I would love to hear your own recommendations for movies within that genre! I stumbled upon your blog through the 100 Дней После Детства tag, a movie that is also very close to my heart.
Hi! thanks so much for your message 🦋 100 Days After Childhood is such a special movie and it’s so nice to hear from someone who loves it also. <3 As for summer movie recommendations hmm... my first thought was Tarkovsky’s films, which you probably already know if you’re interested in Russian movies but yeah! I think all his films but especially The Mirror and Ivan’s Childhood have a unique, dreamlike, wistful mood to them, and also nostalgic. To me a summer movie isn’t necessarily a plot set in summer but something where you can feel a warm atmosphere through the screen, memories about childhood, nostalgia, etc..
other movies i would recommend that I think are along the same lines are Badlands (1973), The Virgin Suicides (1999), Mustang (2015), La Collectionneuse (1967), Atonement (2007), Paris, Texas (1984), Black Orpheus (1959), L’avventura (1960)
I hope the rest of your summer is lovely 💫

Quote
Artistic freedom means that the amateur filmmaker is never forced to sacrifice visual drama and beauty to a stream of words…to the relentless activity and explanations of a plot…nor is the amateur production expected to return profit on a huge investment by holding the attention of a massive and motley audience for 90 minutes…Instead of trying to invent a plot that moves, use the movement of wind, or water, children, people, elevators, balls, etc. as a poem might celebrate these. And use your freedom to experiment with visual ideas; your mistakes will not get you fired.
