HOPE.
‘ it’s good to see you too , lizzie , ’ she says with a sigh , but there’s no denying the small smile on her lips . some things never change and she’s never been so GRATEFUL for the blonde witch’s attitude . a little piece of home , she supposed . ‘ i’m working on it . this place is weird . too good , right ? so … ’ a pause , lips purse . ‘ what if , we just , don’t act good ? ’ at least to test out the boundaries this place has .
‘ obviously i’m happy to see you , otherwise i wouldn’t have gone and blown myself up trying to get you back . can we save the warm and fuzzy reunion once we’re back home ? ’ despite her tone there’s a smile playing just briefly on her lips as she speaks . ‘ definitely too good . ’ the blonde frowns , her forehead wrinkling as she contemplates the idea . ‘ it’s a start , at least . i’d say ‘what’s the worst that could happen,’ but. . .this is the worst that could happen . ’

LANDON.
so much for a normal greeting, huh ? landon was growing more paranoid with the increasing number of familiar faces that joined him in the good place. it seemed more and more likely that SOMETHING had gone wrong, and that maybe they were all involved in some elaborate malivore scheme. but then again, he remembered his death, as did the others. nevertheless, lizzie saltzman of all people approaching him and asking for his help was something that he never expected to see – not even in the afterlife. “ i’m not sure how much phoenix magic i have at the moment since i died and everything, but uh, go for it. “ holding his arm out, he cast the blonde a grim look.
lizzie could tell she’d caught landon a bit off guard, but she couldn’t worry about his feelings right now. she had a bit of a one-track mind that way, and right now all she could think about was getting them back home. the blonde couldn’t stop to dwell on the fact that landon, hope, and herself were all technically dead. “ no, i can still feel some coming off of you. there’s some coming off most of this place, actually, but i don’t know how much i trust this place enough to siphon any of it. ” hope had been her inital plan, but lizzie remembered watching her own death on that screen, watching all that magic fill her up until it ripped her apart from the inside out. landon’s magic was safer, less potent, but her expression still mirrored his as she placed a hand on his shoulder and started to siphon - only to cry out, jerk her hand off of him, and short-circuit the entire room as she expelled the magic as quickly as possible. “ ow, what the fork ?! ”

❝ it’s blo — ❞ & he cuts himself off. he had to at least try to be convincing, though he figures he’d gotten the worst deal, of everyone. it’s almost laughable — an ALL AMERICAN trope for a boy from ottery st. catchpole. he reckons that was just his luck, these days. ❝ it’s stupid, is what it is. ‘s meant to be heaven, isn’t it ? think we’d be able to say whatever we want. ❞ & at that last bit, he can’t help but think of his own friends. fred wasn’t here — at least not in these neighborhoods. he’s not sure he’s ready to look much deeper yet, either. ❝ your teammates, are they here ? ❞
one dark eyebrow, which starkly contrasts her white hair & it’s pastel-dipped ends, rises in an unspoken question when the redhead cuts himself off, though she doesn’t call him out verbally. renee wonders if he’s having trouble with his assignment as well, but decides it best not to comment on it now. ❝ perhaps they’re worried about the children - but i see your point. ❞ her warm countenance dims just slightly when he asks if her teammates are with her. they’re alive, which means there is no reason for renee to want them otherwise, but she can’t deny that she misses them. ❝ no, they’re not. to be perfectly honest, i didn’t think i would be the first one to pass away. they all seem to attract bad luck. ❞

DOROTHEA.
she’s not so used to being able to emote so freely ; so used to a sombre monastery– no food for parties let alone their armies. it was nice & perhaps dorothea was actually enjoying herself ( besides the niggling doubt in the back of her mind, clawing at her thoughts, slowly unravelling like a cat at a ball of yarn. ) ‘ that’s so – ‘ she finally brings up a hand to stifle the river of giggles, leaning back from the railing. ‘ i mean, the only real swear word i know is fudge – ‘ another string of laughter, ‘ oh, i feel like this could amuse me for hours on end. you’d think they’d come up with more than this for entertainment, you know ?
despite having just recently met, not to mention renee’s thoughts on the concept of soulmates, she found herself warmed at the sound of thea’s giggles. if nothing else, renee supposes, it certainly won’t be difficult to enjoy dorothea’s company. ‘ i’d offer to teach you some more, but i don’t think that’s possible here. ’ the pale-haired goalkeeper’s laughter mirrors dorothea’s, and renee inhales deeply once they’ve died down to catch her breath. ‘ i’m sure there’s lots more for us to amuse ourselves with - we just have been to amused by this to find it. ’

❛ oh yes , i’ve definitely noticed . ❜ a feature she supposes isn’t a necessity for people who are fundamentally good , problem is : she’s not one . and it goes without saying , ‘ bullshirt ’ is starting to get on her nerves . ❛ i think it’s more about keeping a . . clean atmosphere than it is about etiquette . ❜ wants to roll dark eyes at the analysis , it’s going to be harder than she thought . ❛ why , are your teammates a bunch of sailors ? ❜
renee’s head tilts just slightly as the other woman voices her suspicions on their verbal restrictions , looking not quite unlike a golden retriever cocking it’s head in attempts to hear more clearly . ❛ i’d have assumed they were both the same thing , ❜ renee admits , before the likening of her teammates to sailors causes her to chuckle . ❛ well , not all of them . part of what qualified us for our particular team is troubled backgrounds , which has done a bit of havoc-wreaking on some of their vocabulary preferences . ❜

“ i need to borrow some of your phoenix magic. ” whatever parts of lizzie’s brain that weren’t occupied with lamenting her current situation ( she didn’t care if she was in the good place or the bad place - it all sucked without her family ) had been attempting to formulate a plan to return home. most of those ideas had been thrown out, but the few she had left would require assistance of the supernatural kind, considering lizzie had no magic of her own. “ i want to try something, but i obviously can’t do it by myself, so. . . pretty please ? ”

“ you know, this really is NOT what i had in mind when i pictured where i’d go after i die. ” lizzie releases a sigh of frustration, the short huff of air practically drowned out by the sound of her nails clicking against the table between the two girls. “ but you’ve got a plan to bust out of here and go back to earth, right ? i mean, big, crazy plans are usually your thing. ”

it’s safe to assume lizzie’s been fuming ever since she landed herself in the good place, which is evidenced by her continued ranting. “ i mean, SERIOUSLY ? the one time i try to be selfless, and i end up dying for it. ” the blonde throws up her hands in a universal gesture of ‘ screw it ’ as she leans back in her chair. “ forking typical. ”

LANDON·.
“ it was definitely more than a dozen times now that i think about it, but, uh, not the point. “ landon supposes there’s no reason not to reveal his supernatural status to this stranger ; he is, after all, already dead. somehow. after drawing in a long breath, he offers the girl a sympathetic smile. “ i’m sort of a phoenix. er – was, a phoenix. “
renee is renowed, at least among her team, for being able to keep her cool an exceptional amount of time. there are a lot of odd things in the world that she’s only just now becoming privy to, and while she tries not to let them shake her too badly, her expression still falters a bit when the man explains. “ ah, ” renee says, her fingers coming up to twist the pastel ends of her hair. “ i can honestly say i’ve never met a phoenix before. my name is renee. ” she offers her hand to the brunette with a smile - supernatural creatures or not, she’s still polite.

ANNA.
“ I HADN’T NOTICED THAT, BUT I DON’T USUALLY SWEAR ANYWAY. ” anna responded, a light shrug of her shoulders, it wasn’t common etiquette for a princess, and though she wasn’t the most sophisticated, by a long shot, she tried her best to be as poised as possible. “ team mates ? are any of them here too. i’m looking for someone myself, actually. and i know that she’s dead, just.. not if she’s here. ”
“ NEITHER DO I, ACTUALLY. ” renee admits to the other woman with a smile. “naturally, it took me quite a while to figure out.” the goalkeeper willed her expression not to turn down when the woman asked whether or not her friends were here - it was a good thing they were still alive, and renee knew it, but that didn’t stop her from missing them. they’d made up her entire world for so long that it was so strange to be without them. “ no, they’re all still alive, thankfully. i’m the only one here. who is it you’re looking for? ”

EDDIE·.
chews at the shape of a bitten brim , quirked downward when he considers his friends’ fates ; doesn’t know whether they’re alive or dead ! never quite expected to be the first of the gang to die , but he supposes it’s not the worst : at least he doesn’t have to suffer the kind of ache that he knows would be associated with the passing of one of the losers’ club . he won’t entertain that kind of bone - marrow hurt . ❛ i don’t think so . probably for the best , right ? they’re better off alive than , uh , y’know . dead . ❜
dark eyes thoughtful as they study the man’s face , renee sees his expression grow just a bit darker . despite her usually cheerful facade , she wouldn’t be surprised if her expression had done the same . is it SELFISH to wish that she wasn’t the only fox here ? what renee wouldn’t give for allison’s no-nonsense tone of voice or andrew’s cool logic , even if that meant they’d had to perish . thankfully , her selfish wishes were just that - wishes , remaining ungranted . ❛ yes , that is definitely true . they have plenty of life left to live , after all . ❜

MODESTY.
“ i have — i have only really heard people swear when angry , “ modesty recounts , as if looking for approval from the other , eyebrows knitting together , looking up , “ but — i mean , i do not think it is necessary , because if you are not angry … you do not have to swear ? and if we are in a good place , then … anger should not be necessary , “ she sounds almost sheepish while speaking , shrugging her shoulders . “ team ? like … sports ? “
the girl seems unsure of herself , and renee feels an almost innate need to boost her confidence . her smile is warm and kind as she considers her words , and it maintains those qualities when she nods . “ i think you might be right - i have yet to see any need for anger here . ” when modesty asks about her team , she’s reminded that a good deal of people here have never heard of exy . “ yes , we play a sport called exy together . or , we used to , before i died . ”

BETTY.
‘ it actually took me a solid few minutes - ’ she’s not the type that thinks she’s BETTER than others for not swearing on the daily basis , but betty cooper was trained to be the polite girl next door ! blonde ponytail bounces , blue eyes are bright with excitement . she may have died , but what a place to be ! ‘ oh , neither could some of my friends . ’ love you , jughead and veronica but - they were always a bit rough around the edges . ‘ at least they don’t have to consciously make that decision to be polite , here anyways . ’
‘ it took a while for me , as well . i’m not normally big on expletives , here or when i was alive . ’ when she was alive . what a strange sentence to utter , no matter how well prepared she thought she was for death . renee felt like she’d lived several lifetimes before she’d even turned eighteen , but being dead so young ( multiple lifetimes or no ) still felt . . . wrong . ‘ something tells me that andrew would find plenty of ways to be impolite regardless of his inability to swear here . it’s just as well that he’s still alive then , i suppose . ’ she was confident that when his time came , he would end up in the good place as well , despite his reservations about his own character . ‘ are your friends here with you ? ’

MAYA.
a soft chuckle leaves maya’s lips. ironically, when she had gotten a moment to herself, that was one of the very first things she had discovered. it had been on the back burner of her mind all day, but she hadn’t really been able to bring it up to anyone because of this whole… oh. right. thinking positive. “but who would really need to swear in a place like this? we are in paradise after all.“ she flashes a small smile, all she really has the energy to give. it’s been a hectic transition. her mind wanders to how perfectly riley would fit into a society so painfully… well, good. “my best friend would actually prefer it this way, if you could believe it. the alternatives that they have here are what she actually used in daily conversation down on earth.”
the blonde seems a bit strained, renee notices, though she doesn’t comment on it. she’s found that more often than not, silent support and distractions can be even more helpful than facing an issue head on. “i suppose that’s true,” renee muses, a thoughtful smile playing at her lips. though in recent years she hasn’t been one to let loose on expletives, it seems odd that any kind of utopia would restrict its citizens in any way, even if it was something as small as swearing. “your best friend sounds like the polar opposite of my teammates, then.” her smile widens as she admits this. “they’ll take any opportunity to swear, especially the monsters. but it’s all a part of their charm, of course.”
