at the moment, you want... to understand.
Tumblr media
you feel as if you cannot understand. your heart desires to do so, but everything seems useless, or maybe like you've exhausted every possible option. you've probably tried hard, looking low and high. opening every cabinet in the house, searching every drawer, looking under every bed. you might've ripped apart whole rooms looking, searching for exactly what you need. maybe you feel you've run out of places to look, things to find, people to ask. the windshield is frosted over, and you're sitting in the car, waiting for it to melt on a cold, winter morning. it feels as if itll never defrost, impossible to see through, no matter how much heat there is. be patient. keep searching. you'll understand eventually, i promise.

Fell asleep picturing Isuka visiting Ace one last time at Impel Down, woke up picturing her actually being there at Marineford (I usually say she wasn't) and throwing away her entire career to try and help save him before either leaving with the pirates or turning herself in to receive her punishment for betraying the Navy... :')

"Commander Hibari!" Ann's voice is rather loud as she hurries after the marine. The journalist couldn't believe her luck to have spotted the commander on such a rather remote base of the marines in the New World.
The success of a specific alliance was the hot topic. To think that an emperor had allied himself with a member of the worst generation and marines to attack Hachinosu and also free the hero Garp in the process....of course everyone wanted to know more details about the whole thing. And then there was this other tidbit that made Commander Hibaris involvment even more interesting.
"Please! I just have a few questions in regards to the famous alliance!" At least asking Hibari seemed like the easiest method. Ann didn't envy her collegues who would try to get statements from the other members. Pirates weren't easy to deal with.
"Is it true that your father, the fleet admiral, knew about the alliance?" She wasn't sure if that particular rumor of her parentage was true, but it never hurt to present it like she was certain that it was. "What did he say about it? How did the alliance start in the first place? What about working together with Emperor Red Hair and the Surgeon of Death? Did you learn anything about them? From them? Can you share any details, please?"
Of course. It was just Hibari's luck that her first time back on a Marine base after the alliance had disbanded (she had to keep up appearances, after all...) saw her being approached by a news reporter, dying to hear all about it. She'd meant what she'd said to Shanks about wanting to be a hero - but she wasn't so thrilled about the publicity that came with it.
The reporter bombards her with questions - but the first one immediately drains the colour from her face and causes her to freeze on the spot. They knew about her being Sakazuki's daughter? How?? And how many people knew?! There would be even more eyes on her now - even more expectations! And what would happen if the world found out that the Fleet Admiral's daughter had secretly even joined the crew of one of the Worst Generation following the conclusion of the alliance— what if he himself found out?!
"I-I— Uhh..." Panic sets in, and the girl looks around frantically before pulling the only stunt she can think of - pointing over the reporter's shoulder.
Tumblr media
"H-Hey look! It's Vice Admiral Garp!!" She loudly announces, before immediately turning and bolting away from the scene - even if the reporter hadn't fallen for it. This sucked! Was this how Koby always felt after he became a hero??

"Miss Makino wasn't it?" Jeanne looked at the owner of Partys bar with thinly veiled curiousity. Upon entering the bar she had immediately noticed the very prominent bounty posters of some rather notorious big shot pirates. Ones that mostly resided in the New World and shouldn't concern the people of such a tiny village in the slightest. Well, except for a very specific one wearing a strawhat.
At least according to her sources. And if anyone would know something it would be the bar owner. A logical assumption, right? "I couldn't help but notice the wanted posters." She nodded to her right, where they were seemingly proudly displayed. "Is it true that the newest and youngest of the emperors, Strawhat Luffy, came from this island? Did you know him before he became a pirate?" Is he as feral as the rumors describe him to be? But she didn't ask the last question, not wanting to overstep any bounderies...yet. She was a journalist. Of couse she would ask questions.
Makino made no effort to keep her love for Luffy a secret. He was nothing to be ashamed of, and even if he was a criminal in the eyes of the government and the ignorant masses, to her he would always be family - and family celebrated each other's victories, as evident by the posters and news clippings displayed upon the walls.
As more came out about Luffy's life, it was only natural that reporters had begun to travel to his home island - searching for any piece of juicy information they could get their hands on for the next big scoop - and here one stood now, asking her about the boy. She was happy to talk about him, but if the reporter expected stories that could be used to paint him as a born criminal, she had come to the wrong person.
"That's right." It still made her heart swell with pride, knowing that Luffy had made it to Emperor-status. He really was well on his way to achieving his dream. "I helped raise him for most of his childhood, actually." She had no shame in admitting such. She herself had still been young when she first met the boy, but the connection had been instant. "He was certainly a handful, but aren't most children at that age?" She chuckles softly, and a smile remains in place - though her next words carry a more serious undertone as she returns to cleaning the glass in her hand.
Tumblr media
"I'm not sure what stories you're expecting to hear, but I hope you won't twist my words. Luffy is very dear to me, and everyone in this village. Everyone else may think he's a no-good criminal, but he's exactly what this world needs, and he's going to be the King of the Pirates one day. I truly believe that."

Miss Makino, Pirates Magazine is doing a feature on the hottest hunks of the Grand Line. So, we wanted to ask you if you know one "Red-Haired" Shanks, er, intimately and might be willing to spill the beans on how he ranks in the sack.
The reporter's questioning starts out amusingly enough. A feature on the 'hottest hunks' of the Grand Line? What a silly idea! However, she freezes somewhat upon hearing the inquiry. She supposed it must be common knowledge these days that Shanks had spent time in Foosha Village - so she supposed it was only natural that the reporter would ask the local barmaid such a question - but it was very personal, and something that was supposed to be kept secret.
Tumblr media
"Oh! Well, of course I know of him, but intimately?" Her brow furrows, even as she smiles. "You shouldn't go around assuming that every barmaid has a story like that to tell." Even if - from what she'd heard of his past - the assumption wouldn't exactly be wrong. "Though, even if I did... A lady doesn't kiss and tell." She laughs softly.
