what is the spiritual awakening?
Well, I guess I would say that spiritual awakenings mean something different for everybody.
I'm actually glad this was mentioned. I see a ton of videos (mostly on TikTok) of very popular creators advising against opening your third eye or going into a spiritual awakening because, as they claim, you "start seeing scary spirits," and I need to address that it's just.... so not true, and so wrong in many ways. Spiritual awakenings don't cause trauma or distress.
This is what a spiritual awakening is:
It's not something you can force, but it's also not fated. If we look at the definitions of "spiritual" and "awakening" we get "a moment of suddenly being aware of the human spirit or religion as opposed to material things." So, a spiritual awakening is just becoming aware that there are things beyond this physical plane, or a sudden understanding or reverence for spiritual beliefs.
It's not something scary or magical, it probably happens to all of us at least once or twice. It can even be a sudden awareness of "this religion does not serve me, I do not believe in this."
Spiritual awakenings are just a sudden understanding or interest in non-material things, ideas, and spiritual ideas.
Now, THE spiritual awakening... I know there are tons of things happening in this world right now like the USA's Pluto return, age of Aquarius, generational planetary transits... basically the whole world is having a form of spiritual awakening right now. I believe this is in part due to all of the crazy astrology events in the last two years, but also the whole world has been quarantined, in their own homes, with not much to do but reflect and learn new things about themselves and the world, for over a year. That does things to a human, lol.
A lot of people have had time to really reflect on their lives and their beliefs this past year, a lot of people's minds have been opened to extremely foreign ideas and possibilities. There's a major shift happening in how people are viewing and going about life, which has been one of the only upsides to this pandemic. I guess you could say that the world has underwent a sort of spiritual awakening recently.
I have a good story about what a spiritual awakening is not.
So, the first time I thought I was having a spiritual awakening, I was about 13. I think I had just turned 13. I had a friend who wanted to mess with a spirit box, so we did, and we ended up accidentally inviting some super nasty energies into the house because we knew nothing about spiritual protection. Everybody in the house was experiencing paranormal activity like hearing voices, seeing shadows, things opening and closing on their own... it got pretty bad. BUT, it got a little worse for me. I started getting sleep paralysis and saw these extremely large shadow figures during those times, and I was having symptoms of "exploding head syndrome," every time I would try to fall asleep, and it started happening while I was awake over time. I thought this was my spiritual awakening. I was exhausted, I couldn't sleep, I remember feeling scared and dreadful constantly, I really felt like I was living in a fever dream. I didn't seek help, because I thought it was an awakening. Turns out it was mostly effects from a new medication I was taking and I was basically having a prolonged episode of minor psychosis and auditory hallucinations because of the medication.
That's why I like to speak about spiritual bypassing a lot. If I had continued spiritually bypassing that situation as an awakening I could have had permanent negative effects.
What my spiritual awakening actually was
I had to have been super young, maybe an ongoing thing from age 7 until 12. My dad died when I was 7, so I think that's what sparked it. I started questioning my religion, why I believe in god, is god even real, how does the idea of heaven even make sense... I would take "what's my religion" quizzes on the internet, lol. So my religion crisis happened very young. Eventually I went from Catholic to Buddhist to Satanist to Lucifarian to Athiest by the age of 10, I started researching hoodoo, witchcraft, lore, mythology... all those things around that age, and I always felt that those types of practices just resonated with me. I never felt a connection to my Lutheran/Catholic/Baptist upbringing. I changed my religion a lot until I was a little older and realized I don't identify with religion. Then when I was much older I was able to actually do deeper research and sparked another awakening with the same theme. It's a cycle. It's exhausting, but it's exhilarating.

Witches Sabbats: Lughnasadh
Autumn draws near and with it, comes Lughnasadh.
Lughnasadh, pronounced “LOO-nah-sah” and known also as Lammas, is a Celtic festival that occurs from the 31st of July through into the 1st of August. It was observed fervently throughout Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man and marks the beginning of the harvest season.
Tumblr media
Also called: Lúnasa (modern Irish), Lùnastal (Scottish Gaelic), Luanistyn (Manx Gaelic).
Lughnasadh is the celebration and ritual of the first harvest of fruit, wheat, and grain. This festival both acknowledges and celebrates the waning of light - Lughnasadh is the initiation of Winter preparation.
It is named for Lugh Lámhfada. and is in honour of his step-mother, Tailtiu who perished of exhaustion after clearing the fields of Ireland ready to be planted, sowed and seeded. Lughnasadh was originally a set of rituals, gatherings and funerary games (named Tailteann Games, or Áenach Tailteann) in honour of Tailtiu’s death and sacrifice.
Some Symbols of Lughnasadh:
Wheat
Corn
Barely
Oats
Onions
Grapes
Straw dolls/straw bales
Corn dolls
Wood
Tarot (strength)
Runes (Eihwaz)
The Colours of Lughnasadh:
Yellow

Violet
Dark green
Brown
The Stones & Crystals of Lughnasadh:
Carnelian
Cat’s Eye
Citrine
Marble
Sale
Granite
Lodestone
The Herbs of Lughnasadh:
Heather
Blackberry
Rose
Sandalwood
Goldenrod
Important/Celebrated Foods of Lughnasadh:
Bread
Apples
Corn
Beer/Ale/Mead
Grapes
Onions
Apricot
Pear
Activities to be done during Lughnasadh:
Baking/Cooking: Sharing food is a good thing to do with each sabbat, especially those with agricultural ties. If you incorporate seasonal foods, and foods associated with the sabbat itself, it can be seen as an offering or as being done in honour of what you’re celebrating.
Take some time to enjoy nature: Lughnasadh is a time when the seasons are changing, so take this time to walk and enjoy the last that summer has to offer. Collect things whilst you walk to put on your altar if you have one.
Construct an altar: if this is something you do, decorate your altar with some of the items mentioned in the list above. If you’re pagan and have a deity who corresponds with this holiday, leave an offering on your altar. In Lugh’s case, he is a god known for his skills in craftmanship and His ability to turn His hand to anything. He is also known for playing the harp, so anything you have crafted or that has taken skill to create will be well received by Him.
Decorate your home: if you like, small decor changes can really get you in the mood and act as a celebratory act.
Bonfires: Invite friends and/or family to a bonfire. Not only is Lughnasadh a celebration of waning light and of the god Lugh, it is a celebration of fire. Share plans to remove negative habits or influences from your life with your loved ones, burn representatives of negativity, drink to future prosperity and toast to Lugh.
Light a candle and do the same, if you are not yet an outed witch.
Craft: as mentioned before, Lugh is a god of craft and skill. Make something! Finish a project you’ve been putting off!
If you don’t want to do something in Lugh’s name, you can make dolls out of corn (a very traditional activity) and they can be left on an altar if you have one, used as decoration or turned into a poppet.
Acts of athelticism: The funerary games of Lughnasadh were its primary reason for creation. To honour this, you can do something on a small scale, such as jogging or yoga, or going to the gym, if you are able.
Trading: Bake some bread and give it to your friends/family/coven in exchange for herbs, or some canldes! That’s just an idea. but you get the gist of it.
Lots of trading took place at historic Lughnasadh celebrations, as they assembly for this season festival was always large.
Feasting: Ties into the baking/cooking aspect, but using things that come from the first harvest is a good way to honour Lughnasadh and Tailtiu.

With Easter fast approaching with its spiked rabbit sales and subsequent spiked rabbit abandonment rates, I thought I’d use my powers for good by spreading some information I think everyone should know before they get their first bunny. I usually don’t want people reposting my art, but feel free to spread this one around! Reblogs are very, very appreciated. If you want more information about pet rabbits, you can for example check out rabbit.org. And remember: Adopt, don’t shop!
