Well, well, well... Since you're in such a big Ray mood (who are we kidding? Aren't we always in a Ray mood?) and we agree that chubby Ray is hella sexy, maybe you have some HC's about chubby Ray?
No matter what those HC's are, I wanna know. Need more Ray in my life 😍❤
Let's go then...
Chubby Ray - Headcanon
Tumblr media
• Ray started gaining weight after moving to New York; he survived his suicide attempt but depression still got to him in a way it seemed subtle at first but took bigger and bigger proportions
• First, he just told himself his lack of motivation to leave the couch, walk around or just go for a run was exhaustion after going through so much in the past year and he needed a rest - which was true at some level
• But Ray didn't feel motivated to leave home at all, he also didn't have the need to go out and see people. For the first time ever since he was a kid, he stayed home the whole day and watched TV
• Ray's always been awful at cooking so during the day a couple of sandwiches and some crackers worked just fine. However, for dinner, he would always eat with Mack
• Who wasn't great in the kitchen but, he was way better than Ray. They would eat mostly mac&cheese, Mack's famous meatloaf Ray could swear it tasted like copper or just some grilled cheese
• Not to mention the nights they'd go the easier way and have some pizza, takeout chinese or chicken wings at the nearest bar with a few beers
• But don't get the wrong picture, Ray's weight gain came mostly from drinking, as he would do every single day
• He began noticing the clothes he bought in his first week at Mack's suddenly seemed tight and uncomfortable, but he didn't really care. For the first time, he didn't have to put on a fancy suit to have it covered in blood a couple of hours later
• Ray didn't really care about it at first, he was busier with his drinking and soap opera marathon on TV all day, since he hadn't got a job yet, so he just shrugged it off and didn't think about it
• Until the day he went to buy some groceries at the nearest market and got a bottle of scotch which went a little over budget. It was no problem, Ray would just run home quickly to get the money missing he just needed to convince the cashier lady to take the bags with him before he could come right back
• Normally, it wouldn't take more than just a smirk, glancing at her up and down, a wink and lowering his rumbling voice while he called her 'sweetheart' and he would be good to go
• If… she hadn't just frowned at him as she'd seen the most outrageous scene and told him no money no groceries
• Ray pretended he didn't really care, after all the girl was young, around Bridget's age, so it was normal she thought it was gross an older man behaving like that, right?
• But even if he didn't admit it, it just made him feel bad about himself. He got home and watched his body in the mirror, seeing his shirt was extremely tight to the point it began going up and showing his lower stomach
• Ray opened Mack's wardrobe and managed to find some sweatpants and sweatshirt, that way he wouldn't look so big
• Ray began feeling kinda bad about himself and skipped shaving for a few weeks… his beard grew thick and so did his hair, but there was no point in trimming them at all
• It all got worse whenever he went to visit Terry and he cracked all kinds of fat jokes, thinking it was a good way to persuade Ray into training and exercise again, but he just felt overall unmotivated for that
• When you managed to track Ray, you couldn't believe all the weird shit that happened: in a matter of months, he just moved to another state, gave up his job and career, lost his money and literally jumped off a building and survived
• You could kill Ray for doing that to you - pushing you away and then disappearing like that. It broke your heart and you convinced yourself he didn't feel the same you felt for him
• But at the same time, you needed to see him, confront him and get your answers… he nearly died, you almost lost Ray for real and that just hurt in such an intense way
• You got all the information you needed from Lena, and she warned you: Ray was completely different than you remembered
• It didn't intimidate you. You hopped on the first plane to New York and went after the man you loved - and very often hated too
• You knew he'd be drunk, it was likely you'd never seen him sober before, but when you saw him limping and wiping off the blood from his face, you knew he'd been beaten up
• You had to admit: it did take you longer than usual to recognize him. He was bigger than you remembered and his clothes looked like a costume, because your Ray would never wear that shit
• Your heart beat faster and your stomach filled with butterflies as soon as you shouted his name and he turned to you, not quite believing his eyes
• You ran to his arms immediately, not giving him a chance to walk away or question you. It rained and you sank your face into his chest, and then you knew he was still your Ray. No matter what he wore, what he looked like and how much money he had in his bank account, he was your Ray
Extra:
Sex with chubby Ray
•The first few times you had sex after meeting again, Ray tried to just press you against the wall and fuck you expressing the need he felt for you
• But you also wanted to take your time, stroke his skin, feel his warmth and be held in his arms
• So you immediately understood the resistance he had in taking off more clothes than just his underwear
• You knew you needed to do something about it. So you distracted Ray by kissing all his sweet spots until you managed to take off his shirt. You looked down at his belly and bit your lips, praising him and telling him how sexy he looked like that
• You whispered into his ear how much you loved his new look you showed it by kissing his stomach before going down on him
• Ray wasn't 100% happy with his looks, but he certainly felt satisfied with how turned on for him you always were
• It didn't matter if Ray was chubby or not, he was your Ray… and don't even get me started on his scruffy, thick beard and how good it felt to ride his face with it

Second chances - Ray Donovan
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
A/N: the inspiration came from this ask combined with a RP idea I had a few days ago. I hope you all enjoy it...
Warnings: fluff and angst
Tumblr media
"So it's all done?" Ray asked the lawyer once he put the pen down and ignored Abby's fake tears. He couldn't stand looking at that boring, lying and dramatic face for another second. The 20 years of his life he wasted next to her had been more than enough.
When the other man nodded, Raymond took a last glace at the divorce papers, got his copy folded inside of his pocket and left - with no looking back.
The first place he went to, was a cafe down the street. It was just a few meters away from the courthouse, in the nicest part of the city. He wanted a drink, but he had committed to himself he would be a new man, with new habits and that included adding healthy ones and excluded the bad ones.
Once he got his order, he sat down and placed his cup on the table. Eying his left hand, a smirk crept on his tired face; the wedding ring still rested there, and he could swear it weighed too much. After his first sip, he took it off. Raymond thought of different ways to get rid of it: throw it away, bury it, leave it at the bottom of a drawer, and so on; but what he went for was leaving it behind there, maybe some less fortunate person would find it and sell it for a good price, he didn't really care, he was feeling too good at that moment.
As another trick of destiny, that was the exact same moment he locked eyes with Y/N.
He didn't know it yet, but that happened to be a life changing experience. If someone had told Ray that, the day he finally divorced Abby would be the day he would meet the next woman he would have the mad urge of marrying next, he would have punched them and called them crazy. However, that was exactly what had happened; since the first time he saw Y/N typing furiously on her computer - he had learned, later on, she was a writer - he knew he was doomed. It was ridiculous, he was aware, but he was just drawn to her.
Ray attended the coffeehouse often, just like Y/N did, and it didn't take long for them to officially introduce themselves. A lot had been observed from one another, but still, so little they knew for a fact. The oddest detail was that…
… they clicked.
He lacked of words to explain, but they just worked, which was something Raymond was definitely not used to it; there wasn't nagging or arguments, just conversations and a weird feeling in their stomach, followed by a disappointment to see how fast the clock's hands ran while they were having their almost daily coffee.
So the logical step was a date invitation. Ray, always needing to have the control, had planned on asking her out, but then, Y/N suggested a dinner first, her excuse was that she was growing tired of the coffee. It was a lie, and they knew it, but wouldn't mind.
One dinner became many; but there was more than that, for the first time since Ray was a teenager, he was going for movie nights, walks on Sunday afternoon, lunch dates, and so on.
The day Y/N finally invited him over, he knew things would happen and he couldn't be more nervous. Would he be able to do it? Would he pleasure her? He spent so long using sex as a weapon to soothe his own, personal pain, not caring about the other person involved but himself and his own climax, he began doubting he would be any good.
Still, the moment she undressed before his eyes, revealing her perfectly shaped body in nothing but the sexiest pair of lingerie he had ever seen, he got the confirmation he would, indeed, go through it all.
He had had many women, one more beautiful than the other, but Y/N…
… Well, she was something else.
And that was the infamous Ray Donovan's happily ever after, and although he was happy, he couldn't stop worrying about the day it would be over, because things are never good to him.
Two years had passed, and finally, in a real, mature and meaningful relationship, Ray learned that things aren't all pain and sorrow, and yeah, it was possible to still be in love and have a healthy bond with someone. Much to his relief, those two years were the ones he'd been in love, faithful and less stressed. His job eventually still made him want to kill everyone in sight, but knowing he would come home to seeing Y/N's beautiful smile and her warm arms around him, was enough to make him ran home sober and loyal.
They didn't get married, and they probably wouldn't, anyway, he didn't have to sign a paper or wear another ridiculously big and expensive ring to prove someone he was hers and she was his, they both knew and believed that, and it was enough.
A certain night, when Ray arrived home carrying a bag of chinese takeout - their favorite when they were too lazy to cook and wash the dishes - he wasn't welcomed by his girl's traditional hug. She was nowhere to be seen.
It shouldn't be a big deal, many things could have happened: she could have just fallen asleep, or gone to the supermarket and forgot to text him, but he knew better. Ray's always had a good intuition, he had to, as he was the best fixer in town. And boy, his intuition that night said it was bad.
His heart nearly stopped when he found Y/N lying on the bathroom floor, totally out. He didn't know what had happened, just had enough time to see how pale she was and how her breathing seemed so weak. The man panicked so much, he had completely missed out the red spot - blood- between her legs. It wasn't much, but the doctors already had a safe guess what her diagnosis was when they saw it.
Several exams later, showed Y/N had miscarried, which was both heartbreaking and shocking. Neither of them knew she was expecting, as it was still in early stages. Of course, that once they learned that diagnosis, now everything made sense: how sick she had been feeling lately, or how certain smells would make her throw up to no end.
Until then, they had never discussed a child, it never seemed a real possibility to them - to Y/N because it never crossed her mind and to Ray because he had already had all of that.
He thought the fact they never really planned a baby or didn't know about the one they lost would, somehow, make it less painful to recover.
It didn't.
Ray's mind often drifted off to daydreams in which he would be stroking Y/N's showing belly, or he would even chuckled to himself by just imagining Avi's face if he delegated him any of Y/N's cravings.
His girl, on the other hand, tried. She wanted to be okay for him, for herself and for them, but he knew she wasn't. He could see how she didn't eat enough, or how her smiled died the moment she thought he had looked away. It hurt him. The impression he had when he watched Y/N - paler skin, visibly losing weight and dark bags under her eyes -  was that he was watching a ballerina in a music box, just like the one his mother used to have when he was a child; it was there, still beautiful and full of grace, but trapped inside herself and always looking sad. It hurt him bad, because Ray usually fixed things, but he had no clue what to do to fix that.
Another couple of weeks passed, and Ray considered having some liquor, maybe it would help him process everything and decided what to do with Y/N. He walked to the cabinet, his hands reaching for a bottle when his phone rang, interrupting everything. Mickey's name showed up on the screen. Ray really considered ignoring it, but something told him to pick it up and when he did, part of him was glad to, and another part wished he hadn't; bad news about Terry always broke his heart.
His brother being hospitalized was the last thing he needed among everything going on on his life, however, he needed to find strength and be there for them.
Raymond stepped out of the shower and began dressing up quickly, being surprised to see Y/N also ready and waiting for him.
"I'm coming with you, you know, for support" she said sweetly and took his hand in hers.
Ray's expression didn't show, but he was thankful.
The news weren't good; Parkinson's has only one way to go, right?
Ray sighed, as he sat in the nearby armchair, talking to his brother and wanting to cheer him up. Mickey, however, had to be an asshole as always. Y/N saw a new Donovan argument was coming, so she just excused herself and began wandering around the hospital halls.
The girl walked alone with her thoughts, not really paying attention to where she was going, until some cries captured her focus, and her curiosity made her follow it, only stopping in front of an empty room. The cries intensified as they came from a lonely infant bed. She swallowed hard and entered the room, as her heart shattered, seeing the small baby completely alone in a cold and scary hospital room.
The baby was small, had probably been born a couple of days prior and cried viciously, as it felt the abandonment.
"Her mother died during labor, she had no idea who the father was, and the only relatives we could contact, have no conditions to raise a baby"
The head of the nurse department's voice made Y/N jump. She walked in, and stood next to the girl "she went through several exams that came back showing she's one healthy little baby, but the poor angel doesn't even have a name" she said sadly as she got the bottle.
"C-can I try?" Y/N pointed at the bottle "I recently lost my baby, it was very early, but it hurt nevertheless"
The older nurse nodded "I'm sorry for your loss, ma'am" she said "she's a hard one to feed, but go ahead" she indicated as Y/N sat in the comfortable armchair and placed the little one in her arms.
The scared baby looked at the woman, her little eyes watching it shocked as the warmth spread around her little body. The bottled taken to her mouth quenched her hunger as her tummy was now full. Little hands reached curiously and softly for Y/N's face, as the small human being eyed her with so much need and love. That's when she knew; she could never let it go of that feeling.
Y/N held the calm baby in her arms as she cooed and talked to the little angel without even noticing Ray entering the room. His heart warmed out as it seemed all puzzle pieces had fallen back into place. His hands stroked Y/N's shoulder as the baby looked at him with love and admiration even if he hadn't even spoken to her yet, some things you can't say or plan, just feel.
"She can be a Donovan if you want" he told his beloved girlfriend "I can work out the adoption papers in no time"
"I think she already is" Y/N whispered, as their little baby closed her sleepy eyes and sighed contentedly now that felt loved, even if it happened fast and unplanned.
Everyone deserves a second chance.

there's this scene from early season 6 of ray donovan it got stuck with me
when ray finally accepts sam wislow's work proposal, he steps out a bar and walks alone in the rain, he's been beaten up so badly he is even limping
and it sort of became a comfort scene for me where i like to imagine a situation between oc/reader x ray
in my scenario they've been lovers for a couple of years and of course he is in love with her but never admits it. however, when abby dies he is just guilt ridden and he has no other way but to push her away and be alone with his sorrow
she tries all she can to get him back and show him they could work and be together but it's no use, until she's left wondering what happened to ray after he simply vanished...
until a day she gets a call from lena, telling her ray is currently living in new york, sharing a simple suburb place with a cop and retired, so he spends his day drinking and taking care of the house
y/n can't believe it, but what breaks her heart for real is learning about his suicide attempt.
fast forward to the rain scene, but this time no sam winslow to ruin the mood, just beaten up, drunk and depressed ray leaving the bar and trying to find his way home when he hears a sweet, known voice calling his name
he's so sure he's hallucinating again, but when he turns around, y/n runs to his arm and hugs him so tight and with such an impulse she nearly tackles him. y/n is crying as her face in buried in his chest. ray doesn't have money, a fancy car or a fit body anymore, but she's still there, and he sees it.
he sees how disturbed and scared she looked when she stared into his eyes and asked him why he tried to kill himself
he sees how she shivered as the rain pours down onto them, and yet she hasn't lessened the grip around his body
he sees how much someone still cares about him and how bad he was for just pushing her away
he takes her to mack's house, where she is introduced to ray's small room but she doesn't care
she kisses him, appreciating how pleasantly ifferent his full, thick beard feels against his face and soon enough her body is pressed against the mattress by his bigger and heavier body.
he isn't fit like he used to, he gained some weight but he still looks good and above all, he is still her ray
the next few days y/n begins helping him organizing and cleaning the house, she left her entire life behind in la and ran to the man she loved. slowly, the house became a home, and even mack enjoyed the fresh meals and the smell of cleaning products
when ray began working as a fixer again, y/n moved to his new apartment with him. she gave him all the support he needed, trusted him and reminded him he was still a good man, no matter if he thought otherwise. she would also remind him he was loved, worthy and he would always have a home to come back to, because she was his home.
End of my scenario
