I live in Florida next to a Preserve and every night I am visited by a family of 3 or 4 racoons. While they say you're not supposed to feed them, I can't help but think they're hungry what do they eat is it safe for me to feed them and leave some food out for him at night?

as much as i would love to encourage you to feed the little critters, i think it would be for the best you don’t feed them. wild raccoons are still wild animals and continuously feeding them will encourage them to come back. if you live in a neighborhood where homes are close by, your neighbors might not like the little fellas’ company since raccoons don’t know any better so it’s best to do what’s safe for them

in the case if you do feed them regardless, a raccoon should eat fruits, berries, nuts, fish, eggs, and various other foods since they are omnivores. raccoons in urban areas are opportunistic creatures so they will eat what they can find
