Hi, I am sure you have a flock of people dunking on you for that poll. I did have a question though. As a long time tumblr user (more than a decade on and off at this point), one of the things I appreciate the most is that my dash is exclusively stuff I have chosen to see, rather than what an equation thinks I am most likely to engage with. One of the selling points of tumblr is that the algorithm isn't the default. You build your circle follow by follow, slowly getting to know new communities and interests via a concentric web of other users. If you are just going to browse the "for you" section, you may as well go find some other site that posts screenshots of the "best of tumblr" style stuff. IMO, it's the tiny posts that will never blow up that help make tumblr feel unique. It's people sharing some small happiness, stuff that won't get rebloged, like being excited to visit friends over the weekend, that keeps you aware of the person behind the constant stream of content.

It makes things so much more personal, and some of the most meaningful online interactions I have had have started from those types of "invisible" posts. Things that the algorithm would never recommend, because they have no reblogs, no likes and no click-throughs. People celebrating small wins, or venting or needing help. They chatter into the void, and sometimes you, the void, answers back. IDK, I really think you should give the dashboard a real chance. Just search for a few interests of yours, pick a handful of random accounts to follow and start building from there. Maybe you will prefer what the algorithm spits out at first, but tailor your follows a bit and don't be afraid to follow more people as you find them.

I questioned using one endless feed over another and everyone jumped to conclusions.

I use my dashboard almost exclusively, I love Tumblr's non-algorithmic aspect, and I put an incel term next to For You to mock it. But alas, I have been misunderstood on the internet. Woe is me.

In addition to having some nice colors to go with a hyperspecific identity, just the base colors are so much better as a straight flag than the boring black and white we always see, thank you.
