a chuckle is offered followed by a casual shrug. " if i didn't sneak out, i'd probably be here for hours. " normal cadence typically lent itself to such time consuming activities. absorbing the adoration of a growing fanbase would never not warm her heart. this night, however, other plans left little time for prolonged fan interaction. something big was in the works and the porcupine needed to dedicate as much time to it as possible.
while the compliment was quite welcome, something more pressing danced around in ash's mind. after having avoided the near collision, it took her a moment to take in the full visage of the taller female in her presence. an appearance that seemed quite familiar, but could not be placed. a brief silence hung in the air as thoughts and memories were combed over.
" wait, have we met somewhere? i swear i've seen you before. maybe in red shore? " the answer was staring her right in the face. lie on the cusp of remembrance. it just wasn't coming to her.

after taking a hesitant peek out of the back alley door, the porcupine slipped through to the outside world. guitar in hand, she made her way out onto the main thoroughfare, a delighted bounce in her step. while she would think that she had successfully escaped the masses, it seemed that one had outwitted her.
" oh hey. didn't think anyone would be out here. " she offered a cordial smile, purple eyes gazing upward towards the taller figure. even if she was anxious to tune her set at this moment, she could at least be friendly when a potential fan had caught her.

small sips echoed through the empty theatre as ash waited patiently for her close friend. apparently he had something to tell her, but of course he hadn't alluded to what. color her surprised that the koala wasn't around already. given the nature of his newfound success, she couldn't be too surprised. he was still that quirky thespian, after all.
at the sound of a door, her eyes darted quickly to it, figuring it was just the man she was waiting for. however, when a tall fox sauntered in instead, she withdrew the straw from her mouth.
" let me guess. looking for moon? " at this point the theatre was well known so no one would wander in by accident. if they were here, they wanted something from buster.

the hustle and bustle of savannah square was not unlike it had been any other day. animals darting back and forth heading to work or whatever had drawn them to the congested city center. amongst the hum of big city life was the soft strum of tense strings. the melody drew the occasional glance and a couple even stopped for a second to admire the tune.
whether or not she garnered attention was of no consequence. for her, this was simply a practice session. something that could very well have been done in her apartment, but the fresh air suited the moment far better. she'd been stopped once before, though donations were in large part the reason for that. there was no request for money this time. just a lone porcupine and her guitar.

since making that human!au post, i've realized that i don't have much info about her on my blog, which is a sin. so, here's a list of headcanons/unique things that differ animated ash from her human!au:
Her full name is indeed Ashley, but call her that at your own peril. She would never announce herself as such.
She's an orphan. Her parents gave her up when she was just a baby, so she has no clue who they are. She also didn't really fit in well with most of her foster homes growing up, so she spent most of her childhood in orphanages until she became too old to adopt.
She was born in Portland, Oregon. Her parents moved to southern California chasing more lucrative jobs. The reason she was put into the foster system was that her parents couldn't afford her after they moved.
She currently is employed at a music shop that sells vinyls and instruments. She also lives in a shoddy apartment above the music shop. Her boss lets her stay there at a discount since he also owns the building and feels bad for her situation.
Since she can't afford any form of personal motorized transportation, she rides a bike pretty much everywhere. Sometimes she takes the bus if its too far.
Unlike animated Ash, human Ash has never been in a relationship. A lack of real social interaction and introverted tendencies are to blame for that.
