#WorldIBDDay 💜 I was diagnosed with #UlcerativeColitis at 19 yrs old, 15 yrs ago! After two weeks of symptoms, I was admitted via A&E & diagnosed on the day after a colonoscopy. Less than a week later, I was under the knife. It’s been a whirlwind of events, so to sum it up in brief: 2007 - Total colectomy (removal of the colon) & #ileostomy - Clean out operation 4 days post-op 2008 - #Jpouch (ileo-anal pouch) creation & ileostomy 2009 - Reversal of ileostomy 2014 - Resection, Jpouch revision & ileostomy (twisted intestine and abscess) 2014 - Reversal of ileostomy 2018 - Jpouch excision, permanent ileostomy & proctectomy (Barbie butt) There’s been countless flares, diagnostic procedures & complications such as C-diff & sepsis. Many periods of isolation, depression, & experiencing too much pain to function. The online #IBD community helped me accept my disease & #stoma. I'll forever be paying it forward! I’m a trustee for Cure Crohn’s Colitis, run #IBDSuperHeroes support group & #IBDawareness campaign. My work now involves healthcare consultancy, writing, & support too! In my spare time, I swim, do yoga, garden, & tend to many houseplants. #WorldIBDDay 💜 My #IBDlife After #yoga, I planned to go lay in a hot bath to ease my pain. Instead, I started feeling hot & dizzy. I ended up sat under the shower. My #stoma became active, which was pretty uncomfortable. I then realised I'd not had to empty in the night, which is unheard of for me! I realised I likely felt ill due to a partial blockage, but I only realised that when things started to move! 🤦🏻‍♀️ I had tendersyem broccoli last night. That was the culprit! Seven surgeries have left me with adhesions & strictured (narrowed) parts of intestine. Many foods are risky 🙄 To end the ordeal, I shit on my own foot when changing my bag. #WorldIBDDay 💜 My #IBDlife My day started with #yoga. It does every day, as I find it helps ease some of the #fibromyalgia pain. My #fibro is thought to #IBD related, because it began after my last surgery. I had my #Jpouch removed in favour of a permanent #ileostomy due to chronic #pouchitis. Yesterday, I did too much. Nothing new there! I always advise pacing and listening to your body, but sometimes the #MentalHealth benefit outweighs the physical pain!
