i love the idea of clueless navier not knowing how to make friends so she does what anyone else would do in her position - shower them with gifts until they say yes? 

     navier has never been loved romantically, and she has come to terms with the fact that she will never be loved romantically by her husband. she has never had the thought cross her mind of taking a lover before her husband took his own, but now that he is severely smitten & preoccupied with her, she will not lie - the thought of having someone who cares for her is a tempting thought.
