So, dunno if y’all know this, but I’ve been a nanny for the same family for the past 4 years AND have childcare experience of 10 years. So I went into the Nanny Affair slightly sceptical but hey I’ve always wanted to see how PB would handle something related to childcare, something I am very passionate about, and the first chapter was, imo, very good! I liked that we had a chance to interact with the kids, the MC maintained a professional attitude while dealing with the dad at the interview , and overall I thought this would be a nice story about two people growing close and becoming a family.
The second chapter, however, kinda dashed those hopes. Now depending on your choices, you can obviously hoe it up (which is something I do on a second play through after I’ve gotten to know the story and characters better) but like, and this is just my opinion, PB doesn’t really give you that choice. At least not with the option to bring the kids to the Park. Maybe it’s just me but when the diamond option came up and said, you can show the kids the sky AND question them about Sofia, my reaction was why would I do that? Firstly if the father and the woman he is connected with haven’t revealed this info to the public concerning a wedding, the kids may not know that it’s happening either, ESPECIALLY if they are still getting over the loss of their mother. If they did know they would have most likely ranted about it the minute the MC brought up the woman. Secondly, it is in no way the business of the MC to ask these questions and thats what really pissed me off. I didn’t want to ask the kids cause we barely know this family and they clearly are going through some emotional stuff right now, along with the brain developments that happen at this time of life. If situations like this aren’t handled tactfully then there could be lasting damage on the child’s psychosis. So I chose the diamond option because PB has always been pretty good about giving us options on what to say in these scenarios but this?????
THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! No nanny in their right mind would ask a child, especially a pair that have been dealing with parental trauma and loss for the past five years, these questions!
The first implies too much of an interest in the father and could make the children think you don’t care about them, meaning they will trust you less and make your job ultimately that much harder.
The second, I refer back to the statement above that they may not know about a wedding. Hell I will go so far as to say they definitely don’t know about it considering how protective Sam is! I mean shit he won’t even let them have toaster tarts! So clearly to him the protection of his kids is most important and they don’t seem to have the highest regard for Sofia, which I will bet money they have been very vocal to him about. So it would make sense that he would tell them when it’s a finalized plan, not just something “in the works”. To ask this question you bring the kids to a level of distress and hurt that they don’t need to experience from someone they JUST MET! I MEAN CAN YOU IMAGINE IF YOUR BABYSITTER ASKED YOU THIS QUESTION AFTER HAVING KNOWN YOU FOR ONLY A DAY AND A HALF????????? AND THEY KNOW GOOD AND WELL THAT YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE COPING WITH THE LOSS OF YOUR MOTHER?! AND YOUR ONLY SECEN FUCKING YEARS OLD?! THE FUQ?!
So anyways yeah. Not too stoked about where this is headed but ya know. I’ll still use it for diamond mining.
