“You’re back.” Lance said, almost breathlessly, somewhat relieved and mostly with a tinge of confusion.
“What are you doing on Earth already, you’re not supposed to be back for months.” he continued.
“I can’t visit my teammate?” Keith retorted. Lance showed a shy smile.
“Wh-“
“Lance. You’re not happy here. Everything reminds you of... Allura’s path. You want to be an explorer, an adventurer and the best pilot in the universe.”
“Keith, my buddy, my man. I’ve had most of those things when I was part of Voltron and the next chapter in my life is this.”
“You’re only 21 and you choose to farm for the rest of your life? Lance you cannot stand mundane tasks, you’re built for bettering the universe. It’s nowhere near perfect... we need y-“
“Let me stop you right there, Kogane. You have no right to show up at my farm and tell me what I can and can’t do. There’s no need for me out there. Who’s to say this is mundane? My family is here and my home is here.”
“Lance. Your home is where your adventure is. You can’t spread Allura’s message if you’re cooped up in some corner of Earth.”
“Keith you don’t know me.”
“That’s where you’re wrong. I’ve always known you. Lance I remembered all the things you’ve said about me being the future. Then I realized that’s nowhere near true. You’re needed most. You’re constant love and caring tendencies should be distributed throughout every stretch of the universe.”
“I don’t think so, Keith.”
“Why the hell not?”
“If I go, I’ll fall in love with you.”
“We can cross that path where we get there, we need to help the future.”
Lance knows that Keith has his heart in the right place always. A part of him has always been in love with the black paladin and the second Lance saw his beautiful, beautiful face, he was willing to save anything with him. After all, isn’t Keith the future.
“Come in and say hi to my family, mullet.”
“It’s in a ponytail now!”
