i think the major issue is that at least in the case of fat people (i would imagine some other marginalized people too, but don't care to speak past my own experience here) is that the conversation re: chubby chasers has resolved around this mystical spectre of The Fetishist, whose attraction to fat people is bad because it's Fetishistic (in a way that exclusive attraction to thin bodies, by virtue of being culturally normative, is not) and it Fetishizes their partners and creates toxic Fetish Content. it's essentially the discussion of a real problem (the sexual exploitation & abuse of fat people) utilizing only the language of reactionary constructions re: "porn addiction" and non-normative attraction. i don't really give a shit if a guy has only ever dated 300 LB+ women, but what i DO care about is what those women say about him and how he treated them, if he was public about their relationships, if he listened when they said "no," etc. honest-to-god shitty chubby chasers aren't bad because of this nebulous idea of Fetishism so much as the violence with which they treat fat people, the harassment they put unconsenting fat people through, the frequent abuse of their sexual partners, and definingly the way in which they exploit cultural fatphobia & the desexualization of fat people to get away with it over and over and over again. and the irony of it is that the more we panic about Fat Fetishists without centering the conversation on power and violence, and the more we by-extension reinforce attraction to fat bodies as an abnormal and abhorrent trait, the deeper this hole is dug -- because it's that very abnormality which pushes fat partners into the shadows and which casts constant doubt over our voices as survivors of sexual violence. it's goofy

like even just speaking in my own context as a social science PhD student in a canadian university, graduate students are required to apply for federal grants for their funding. this includes a detailed proposal about what you plan to research. the federal government lists what research projects they are interested in funding each year, and it’s understood that you need to pitch your research in such a way that you are appealing to those research aims, including what kinds of questions you want to ask and what you’re hoping to contribute to your field. the language you use must speak to furthering Canadian interests. this is not a neutral process! How critical do you think academic scholarship can be when their funding depends on flattering the policy and research aims of a settler colonial capitalist state? and many, many academics are fine with this, there is no secret hoard of marxists in universities chained to the whims of Big Government or whatever, but like even using this one singular example you can see how maybe the shit they teach you in universities is concerned with speaking to funding agencies before there is any consideration for discovering, like, capital T Truth about the world. nothing you read is produced out of nowhere, and if you’re reading academic scholarship that means that there is a titanic amount of financial and administrative infrastructure that that knowledge is produced in. If you believe you go to university to learn the truth about the world, that university is a progressive institution because they teach marx to undergrads, then I’m sorry but you’ve bought into both the liberal myth that universities are primarily concerned with teaching the truth and the conservative myth that universities are SJW hellholes

I cannot emphasize this enough as a practical life skill: learn how to say no to authority figures. Learn how to tell them that nothing they can do to you will change your mind. Disappoint your parents. You have to live your own life.

Lance loves dance music, but keeps getting his heartbroken so he writes upbeat, EDM music (sad lyrics but a BOP) (like Hey Ya! Idk)

And Keith, the super studious hopeless romantic, writes these grand love ballads but they’re completely acoustic and folksy

As much as I dont wanna write Klance fanfic in 2023, there is a lack of Rock Band Aus in fandom.

Like Lance and Keith are both guitarists in separate bands.

Keith is the youngest member in The Blade of Mamora, which is an older rock band that’s reviving itself and they added Keith as their new guy (because the old guitarist was a perv or smth idk)

And Lance is the lead singer/guitarist/front runner for his pop-punk band he started from his garage with Hunk and Pidge. They have reasonable success, but are no where near as prolific as The Blade. (They’re like 1975. Def famous, but they aren’t doing area tours.) They call themselves Voltron.

Lance is a competitive idiot, and got into guitars because he saw an article about Music Prodigy Keith when he was a kid. He started his band when Keith was asked to join the Blade at like 17.

Now that Voltron is becoming more popular, they’re doing small interviews with like Buzzfeed, and Lance has this big speech about how Keith is his mortal enemy despite never havjng met him. Keith doesn’t watch these or have social media, but he hears about the rivarly through Shiro (his big bro and manager) but ultimately doesn’t care.

Shiro, though, sees how unhappy Keith is with the Blade. He’s like 19 now and spending all this time with 40-50 year old men, who are nice and offer guidence, but like they can’t be besties. They also all treat Keith like a nephew, so Keith is super behind in social skills.

So Voltron is getting signed by the same Blade of Mamora record company, and Shiro overhears a meeting where they are discussing strategy. (The pop division is run by Allura (daughter of CEO) and she is eager to prove herself.) Allura sees Lance’s ability to really loose himself with the crowd and in his singing, and wants to push him to sing more WITHOUT the guitar.

Shiro hears this and meets with Allura later to offer Keith as the new lead guitar.

*chaos ensues*

This was my first assignment on TMNT in Early 2021. I asked asked to do a Bodega and a pizza shop and generally figure out the look of our nyc streets. This eventually got handed off to Alger Tam and the resulting collab piece became the target for one of Mikros Animation‘s earlier 3d tests. This made it into the movie as a night time shot with April driving down it on her new bike. Ive also included some of my earlier more graphite and ink style sketches.
