DISABLED QTPOC IN NEED OF COMMUNITY CARE
Tumblr media
[ID: An orange, autumn themed graphic with white pumpkin and leaf decals in the corners. Black text at the top reads, "BERYL AND IVY'S SURVIVAL FUND". underneath is a photo of Ivy, a light-skinned biracial person wearing a lavender crop top and black skirt, and short dark brown hair, and Beyrl, a light-skinned afrolatine trans woman with curly brown and pink hair, wearing a white crop top and lavender skirt. next to the photo is black text that reads, "Beryl and Ivy are a disabled multiracial trans couple in urgent need of support with bills while Ivy recovers from gender affirming surgery and goes through the process of diagnosing his debilitating chronic conditions!" in the bottom left corner is more text: "To Support: / moneyyy.me/$stemmonade / patreon.com/jelliclegays / ko-fi.com/jelliclegays / (put a star emoji in the notes only!)". end ID]
it's november, which means i am having top surgery on November 3rd! once i have surgery, i will be even more limited in what i can do while i am recovering, and my wife is going to have to work even harder than she already does to take care of me. money has been tight, but its going to be worse. we really really need help in order to make sure we can get bills paid On Time this month, and make sure that we are able to eat and cover any other expenses as they come up. any support helps a lot. folks can support directly (preferred), through my ko-fi, or monthly via patreon. thank you!

Thank you for sharing this! This is another one of those situations where we are just now seeing the noticeable, dramatic payoff of years and years of quiet, unnoticed environmental work.
“Experts say years of conservation efforts have resulted in some of the healthiest waters in generations, with booming fish populations, clearer ocean waves and more chances to interact with our urban aquarium.”
This quote also really got me:
“‘It never gets old, it’s always thrilling,’ said Celia Ackerman, a naturalist with American Princess Cruises who captured the images. As a child growing up in Brooklyn, Ackerman couldn’t wait to move out of the city so she could study marine animals. 'I would have never imagined I could enjoy them here right in my backyard.’”

Accessible bathrooms are more than just “a big stall”
There are a lot of disabled people. And a lot of disabilities. Therefore, there are a lot of ways to make a bathroom accessible.
An actually accessible bathroom would have:
A large amount of space that can accommodate mobility aids, medical equipment, a personal care assistant, and/or a service animal.
Sturdy grab bars around the toilet.
An emergency pulls string that calls EMS if a disabled person has fallen and injured themselves (this is common in the UK).
An adult changing table.
A trash can for medical-related waste, such as catheters, -ostomy bags, etc.
A safe sharps-disposal bin.
Floors that aren’t slippery.
And tbh, there’s probably more things that can be made accessible. But those are the bare minimum.

If you're trans -- if you have a gender identity that doesn't exactly match the gender you were assigned at birth, regardless of whether you have transitioned or intend to and whether you're nonbinary -- and live in the US, ok and are 16 or older, you are eligible to fill out the 2022 US Trans Survey, crafted by trans people.
This is a big deal, it's the largest national trans survey and the last one was in 2015. The next one won't be for at least another five years.
There's some fairly personal questions and some heavy ones, like ones about harassment and domestic violence. They don't ask for your name or other definitively identifying information, and take steps to keep the rest of the data confidential. You can skip (most) questions you don't want to answer while filling out the rest. Data can be useful for lobbying politicians for things that are good for trans people, especially ones who are basically sympathetic but not sure they should prioritize trans issues. (In their words, "The USTS fills in some of the large gaps in research about transgender people, and it provides critical tools for researchers, policymakers, and advocates seeking to better understand the needs of transgender people and to find ways to improve their lives.") Most questions have set options, but there's also an opportunity at the end to share personal stories in your own words.
There's also a Spanish language version and Spanish speakers, people of color, older people, immigrants, those who live in rural areas, and people who are HIV+ are especially encouraged to fill it out (because when people don't it's harder to advocate for services for those people, even when people providing the services know damn well there's a lot of need.)

D’anzho! Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day!
❤️🤍💛🖤
I am a Two Spirit Diné Apache disabled SW and today I will be embracing the love and joy of my ancestors and elders as Indigenous people surviving genocide upon us in the US empire. I will also be protecting the cultures and sovereignties I belong to by making ceremony. I will be giving thanks that my living grandparents survived Indian boarding schools run by the Catholic Church and the US government. I will be giving thanks that my ancestors were able to flee New Mexico in the 1890s with their lives after Free Masons & Mormons attempted to kill all men, women, and children on my families lands multiple times. And that’s only a couple traumatic things I’m willing to share. I am a beacon and symbol of survival, courage, and resilience just as they are. My struggle to survive is one akin to theirs, simply in my own time and with my set of challenges.
Today, I’m calling upon all white people to pay reparations for the sins of white supremacy. I will not be placing a goal as no amount of money can ever lessen the damages done at the hands of white people. No amount of money will ever take their suffering away, their pain away, will never give them back the humanity that was stripped from them. But apologies can be given in the form of monetary community support to help us survive the hell that has been left for us to endure. White people should be donating to Indigenous peoples today via direct reparations to individuals and to Indigenous-led efforts. White people should be in reflection today for both your sins and your atrocities. And if thinking on all that evil is just too much to handle, apologies for the incessant, endless, and vile harassment I endure from white people of all varieties on this website should be enough for you all to open your white people wallets, no amount no matter how small or how large goes unappreciated as it all helps keep me kicking.
Hit up the links below to pay reparations 🪶💨

Wanna help out your favorite goth?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Please don't tag as donations, boost, or mutual aid, tumblr will suppress the post
Hi, I hate to do this again so soon but I really need the help, my job is acting real funny with my money and they keep pushing back my check day sighting "issues with the direct deposit system" so I'm tapped until the 25th. I took what I had left and paid most of my bills but I still need to pay my phone bill, my part of the rent and buy groceries. If you could spread this around and or donate I'd really greatly appreciate it!

Manifesto of the Committee for the Sick and Useless
Those of us with disabilities form an interest group with an immense number of seemingly abled people. Everyone whose culture, beliefs, age, personality, sexuality, language, immigration status or other inclination makes them less useful to society belongs with disabled people in the fight to exist without justification.
The Committee for the Sick and Useless believe it is the innate and inalienable right of all people to:
       Do Nothing
       Help No One
       Feel Awful
And above all else
       Be Useless
In this age of increasing productivity and accomplishment, we too often sacrifice the most sacred right of all living things: to simply exist, asking much and contributing nothing. We sacrifice this right not just for ourselves as individuals but for all life on Earth present and future.
Our existence has been made conditional on the work we are expected to do, whether that work is employment, education, or caring for the home. Even plants and animals must now earn their right to exist by producing food, providing beauty, cleaning our air, warming our hearts. The ugly, unpleasant and useless are abandoned.
We, the committee, do not consider ourselves at odds with health, joy and usefulness. Rather we are united with all good and joyful people in our fight against the demand for productivity. Our enemies are those who demand that the land produce wealth, that the workers produce profit, that the sick produce medical certificates, that children grow up and the elderly make themselves scarce.
The right to exist is the foundation of all human rights and duties; it cannot be made conditional, lest all rights be made conditional. We support the right of everyone, everywhere, to live.
In this admittedly revolutionary goal, we have many allies. These include, but are not limited to: queers, cripples, drug users, the unemployed, the mentally ill, the anti-colonial, the incomprehensible, the celibate, the ugly, mutes, mystics, pessimists, mosquitoes, cats, children, teenagers, the elderly, speakers of suppressed languages, and people without a driving license.
This is Chapter 31 of Redefining Disability, with very minor edits. I held off on posting this until it was published. It is now in a real physical book that they cannot take away from me so here you all go.
If you would like a copy of this or any other chapters from the journal, I will be happy to email them to you.

tbh i kinda hate the "lol tumblr users are old and thats why we're in pain" jokes
like. no. you arent old, youre fucking 30, and if youre in constant pain there is something wrong and you may be able to actually DO something about it if you acknowledge it!!!!
like yeah the only medical care a lot of people have access to is worse than useless but instead of pretending its fine and normal we could be sharing resources and figuring shit out!!!

Speaking of LGBT Orthodox Jews, there was a trans woman fired from her job as a teacher at a yeshiva and a trans man who was expelled from a yeshiva after getting the permission and blessing from the head of the yeshiva.

non-muslims: please don't overcorrect for islamophobia by ignoring what is happening in iran right now (women being killed for not wearing or improperly wearing their hijab)
supporting the freedom to choose to wear a hijab means also supporting the freedom to choose not to
jîna mahsa amini was arrested and killed for "improperly" wearing her hijab. there are massive protests happening and police are killing protestors. spread the word.

It's not about pornography you idiots. It's about sex workers having the right to advertise and monetize this platform, and queer people's rights to exist in their own bodies.
Tumblr will continue to be dead, unless you demand they bring back sex workers to the platform. You want porn? Make sure we get paid for making it.

I think for a lot of white people, when you call them out on their casual racism (microagressions and non-overt things), they see it as a case of hurt feelings from your point of view as opposed to a discussion of harmful practices that aid the vehicle of racism. So in response, they take it as a personal attack, rather than a learning experience, and go on the defensive by bringing up a time that you made them upset as leverage. Or they defend their actions by doubling down on the behavior at hand and dismissing your criticism as over sensitivity and emphasizing their “harmless” intent. And I think that is one of the reasons why it’s so hard to address casual and interpersonal racism with the general white population (and also other poc tbh).

on the one hand, yes, the website staff is really kind of shit and the porn ban isn't fully lifted yet, but on the other hand, coming from the bottom of my heart as a sex worker:
this is a HUGE first step, please keep pushing on the adult content topic. We need them to lift the ban fully. Almost no websites are safe for us. Tumblr USED TO BE, and now it's not. You cannot understand how important it is for us to have a safe platform to use. Please keep going
